Seems like a missed opportunity.
I deeply appreciate the battery life personally. Every time I charge it is an opportunity to forget to put it back on. I can go on a long trip and not worry about packing a charger. I can wear it at night to track sleeping more easily. And probably most importantly, with weeks of life, there's basically zero chance of me being surprised at 9am after leaving the house that my watch is about to die in a couple hours.
That everything has to be about profit is a lot of what's wrong these days. And yes, bitching about this on a YC-owned forum is just as silly as bitching about nerds here, I'm aware.
I do worry what that will mean for projects such as Linux though. Not that I think it will die or anything, but rather that it will become so fragmented that forward movement ceases.
Maybe for simple one-person projects. We've long since developed methods and models to allow us to make things bigger than ourselves. Linux, SAP, etc. These software projects are not held in the mind of a single developer. But we use structure, rules, and other tools so that the pieces still fit together.
It's not that remote attestation can't be used for good. Obviously it can. It's that there's so many ways we can use it for evil, and given the track the world is on, it's quite obvious it will be.
