folex··on Tink – Cryptographic APIs that are secure, easy to use correctly
I hoped this one wouldn't depend on WebCrypto (in Javascript), but seems like it is dependent :( No cryptography without https, still.

I just don't get it: why can't I use `ed25519.sign` without being on secure origin.

The only reason I can think of is: don't allow people to create p2p networks without CA control and approval. I'm talking about this https://github.com/w3c/webcrypto/issues/28 . Because of that requirement, you can't use WebCrypto primitives on http sites.

So I can't implement my own security on network channel (in web app) without first getting approval from Big Guys, who can revoke it at their will.

researchgate is much much nicer, and gives a lot of info: citations, related papers, you could go see info about authors, ask questions, see what project this paper is on. Researchgate allows discovering interesting papers in a seamless maner.

Awesome work, thank you for that! Keep it up! :)
folex··on Seamless offloading of web app computations from mobile device to edge clouds
Agreed. Also, it looks to me that paper's idea intended to be used for batch (or, at least, batchable) computations, where you submit data, and then retrieve the result.

In that case, Wi-Fi isn't used intensively, only for data transmission, meaning it could be idle during computation. So the power savings could be relatively big.

There's a similar paper from 2018 https://www.researchgate.net/publication/325255736_Decentral...

Hi! What features are you interested in for integrating with auto-merge? If it's OK to ask, what's your use case? Thanks :)

Hi! What are you using for conflict resolution? Is it CRDT? Have you seen RON? https://github.com/ff-notes/ron
folex··on Local-first software: you own your data, in spite of the cloud
Very exciting. Could you please elaborate on what technology stack you're planning to use? Language, frameworks, etc.

And how do you plan to achieve that? What will be running on a server side? Will it be headless or server-rendered?

Do you have a GitHub repo with that project?

Sorry for lots of questions and thanks in advance!

I wish all the controls work with randomize on – so I can have random image with some parameters fixed. e.g., if I change some parameter, it stays fixed.

Do you have source code for the project?

Once again, it's awesome!

folex··on “10x engineers”: Stereotypes and research
Hm. I would argue that space of knowledge in both compilers and graphics (and maybe even JVM) is pretty huge. And it's a deep kind of knowledge, the hard one.

My point is that there is enough information to be always learning in all fields you've mentioned.

You can buy a lense adapter, and go looking for some cheap old lenses. I just bought two old Zenit lenses: Helios-44 (58mm) and Jupyter 37A (135mm) + single adaptor, all for ~100 eur, and I'm pretty happy with them!

I'm not sure if these exact lenses available where you live, but for sure there should be some options of nice old lenses you can buy for little money.

folex··on Linux Mint's Sobering Update: A Glimpse into the Personal Struggles Devs Face
While the idea is good and kind, it's not as easy as it seems.

That's called a support line, and it requires good understanding of the project by non-dev support. That requires to educate someone about your project, and maintain their knowledge to be up to date.

That's not an easy task even in commercial projects with a team of several people, and ability to delegate, and requires a non-trivial skill of leadership.

In other words, the project is very lucky to have such people. And while it sometimes happen organically, it's hard to implement this intentionally.

Having GR III, but not very skillful with it, I would say that taking an image as vivid and clear as AI-backed smartphone (e.g., Pixel 2XL) is pretty hard. And it would likely require some post-processing.

But of course, the GR's image is much more detailed and sharper. But that is almost negligible on the small Instagram photos.

edit: typo

folex··on Interviews with developers who became managers
Invite team members to the screenings, get them to ask questions and understand people. After a while, the member could do it all on their own, and maybe even train someone else. Try different people, look for talents inside team :)

At one point, you can give away resume reading too. And talking with HRs will get easier (more repetitive/automated) after a while; try to engineer a way for that.

folex··on $1M to build decentralized social networks
Quick question, do you really think $100k is enough money to build a social network? If so, how much time and people is needed for such task?

P.S. I'm convinced it's not enough money. It will take over a year just to have something working and usable and it will take more than 5 people to do that.

folex··on $1M to build decentralized social networks
Like $100k is enough to build social network, lol. You can't even hire 3 developers for that money.
