fnordfnordfnord··on CFTC Orders JPMorgan to Pay Record $920M for Spoofing and Manipulation (2020)
Other markets are also rife with deceptive, arguably fraudulent practices so they should be policed first? The CFTC isn't even empowered to regulate those other markets.

>Effectively it means anyone cancelling an order has to worry

No, it really doesn't. This is a single enforcement action that probably took months or years to put together. The behavior being policed is traders entering thousands of orders in a short period of time and then cancelling the orders after their real orders were filled, and then repeating this behavior over some period of time. Someone who fat fingers an order occasionally, or changes their strategy in response to intraday market movements has nothing to fear.

>For me real manipulation

Yeah those people also suck and I hope they get what's coming to them, even though I know they won't.

>Make orders non-cancellable for a certain period of time,

Exactly, in a similar manner that the PDT 4 trades in 5 days rule is implemented.

They are not irreplaceable but it would create the sort of inverse "moral hazard" that might stop these practices, which are apparently what's being protected.

It's further enraging because people have been calling this out for years and mostly just been mocked and called conspiracy theorists for it.
fnordfnordfnord··on U.S. State Department phones hacked with Israeli company spyware
OP said M-16 not F-15.
fnordfnordfnord··on The team that powers VLC (2019)
Lots of better players existed at the inception of VLC. Most existing players that worked at all were probably better. That's how most projects start off.
fnordfnordfnord··on U.S. State Department phones hacked with Israeli company spyware
Or the smartest move. They probably own more politicians than the NRA, the pharma ind, and and the aerospace ind combined.

Unlike a firearm which has no intelligence or software, NSO retains significant control over their product.
fnordfnordfnord··on ISO should make all standards Publicly Available
Standards, building codes, especially residential building codes. Any time violating code is effectively violating the law, codes should be free (online) or very very low cost (hard copy).
fnordfnordfnord··on The FDA wants you to be able to buy a hearing aid without a prescription
My wife's grandfather should have all of that through his VA, Medicare, and supplimental insurance. His hearing aids are the most annoying low quality overpriced pieces of crap you can imagine. And that stupid headphone amplifier thing they've sold him, garbage, literal garbage. A hobbyist could do better.

The new schema may not be a panacea but I don't expect it to be worse than the status quo.

fnordfnordfnord··on $1M bounty for details on Tether’s backing
I don't think it was available until after hours, but don't kill me if I'm mistaken, I didn't try to buy any, nor have I paid that close of attention. My understanding is that it should be available on most brokers tomorrow AM.
fnordfnordfnord··on $1M bounty for details on Tether’s backing
Yes, he has a website where he pats himself on the back for all of the good calls he's made. I've seen it. Ask yourself, why does a short seller need public confidence at all? It's because they want to be able to move the stock price when they publish something.
fnordfnordfnord··on $1M bounty for details on Tether’s backing
1. Because that's market manipulation.

2. SEC did something to Musk, maybe you forgot, maybe you don't think it was enough, but they did something.

fnordfnordfnord··on $1M bounty for details on Tether’s backing
ATH is 64.8k iirc, so nearing ATH but not there yet. Watch tomorrow, First day of open trading for BITO ETF, might see a new ATH.
fnordfnordfnord··on $1M bounty for details on Tether’s backing
>Hindenburg is the real deal.

Hindenburg is not the real deal. If you think Hindenburg is the real deal you should pay closer attention to their activities. They (he) are one of a number of noisy short sellers who try to drive stock prices with their tweets/reports. SEC should be doing things to these people.

That said, he is probably right about Tether. Tether should make every crypto speculator or holder very nervous.

fnordfnordfnord··on Governor vows criminal prosecution of reporter who found flaw in state website
>Literally a reporter's job.

And the governor's helping!

fnordfnordfnord··on El Salvador’s new Bitcoin wallets could cost Western Union $400M a year
It wasn't luck. The price is frequently volatile but has trended up (to a great degree) since inception.
fnordfnordfnord··on El Salvador’s new Bitcoin wallets could cost Western Union $400M a year
KYC is only done once, at account creation.
fnordfnordfnord··on El Salvador’s new Bitcoin wallets could cost Western Union $400M a year
If you really need to minimize that risk then you coordinate the exchange on SMS or something. Intra-exchange transfers are instant. The risk is really low almost all of the time.
fnordfnordfnord··on El Salvador’s new Bitcoin wallets could cost Western Union $400M a year
We were aware of that as a possibility, but as I said in the post over several years of doing this we never lost more than the cost of a money order.
fnordfnordfnord··on El Salvador’s new Bitcoin wallets could cost Western Union $400M a year
Yeah, that's fair.
fnordfnordfnord··on El Salvador’s new Bitcoin wallets could cost Western Union $400M a year
One of the first real functional uses of Bitcoin in my family was as a way to send money to my nieces when they were in college. We used Coinbase accounts and moved money faster and cheaper than either the USPS or any money order company. We often made money on the transfers and never paid/lost more than the cost of a money order.
fnordfnordfnord··on Xsolla lays off 150 after an algorithm ruled staff 'unengaged and unproductive'
I have some questions as to whether things are going well at Xsolla. They handle payments for Roblox, and I constantly have problems giving them money. I have three kids playing Roblox who each spend money there at least a couple of times per month.
fnordfnordfnord··on Tether executives said to face criminal probe into bank fraud
>These dudes are a complete scam but as long as BTC goes to the moon nobody seems to care.

Chuckles... I'm in danger.

fnordfnordfnord··on Police are telling ShotSpotter to alter evidence from gunshot-detecting AI
Of course not. They're hoping that a noise will some day coincide with a crime so then they can write a press release lauding the technology and the smart decision maker for buying it.
fnordfnordfnord··on Police are telling ShotSpotter to alter evidence from gunshot-detecting AI
> then it must be a purely one-directional flow of information.

That's absolutely not possible.

fnordfnordfnord··on GOP Rep. on cyber committee dumped MSFT shortly before $10B contract scrapped
Yup, that's my understanding as well.
fnordfnordfnord··on I'm a Frito-Lay Factory Worker. I Work 12-Hour Days, 7 Days a Week
Anecdotal: I have worked with Frito Lay in the past (training their workers) and they are ruthless. Would not do it again.
