Where is it not a thing? Japan?

You guys can downvote all you want. If you don't already realize this you'll realize soon enough.

> AI-assisted coding, on the other hand, rekindled my passion for computers.

AI-assisted coding isn't a thing. Why would anyone pay you to code when your competitor spends 1 minute spelling out a problem and doing the same thing for 59 more problems?

As far as I'm concerned coding is dead as a profession, now we are Harness Managers.

flyingshelf··on Feeling Sad about AI
> Unfortunately I am not sure the 'tech' industry will have a lot of use for me, pretty soon.

That's the core issue. Our time is running out pretty soon anyway. I have no intention of downgrading my lifestyle to the point of near homelessness, better be dead.

flyingshelf··on Feeling Sad about AI
This is basically me in 2026. Life has no meaning and I'm waiting for my money to run out before I end it. Hopefully I can find a job that doesn't bore me but I'm not positive.
flyingshelf··on Copying login keychains between Macs fails on Secure Enclave Macs with Tahoe
And yet if you click export it will gladly print out a plaintext csv with your whole life in passwords. Doesn't even attempt to zip it with password or something.
flyingshelf··on Finder is so frustrating and has been since day one
I don't disagree, but it depends. Some files just don't stand alone and are related to each other.

"Stream" photo libraries of people who take pictures for work know this issue all too well: there's a lot of junk mixed with their personal photos. What if we had... folders: one personal and one for work or per customer.

I think you're gonna lose a lot of comments here to the "Finder" word here. The problem is not the Finder but directories, which exist on all operating systems.

With that aside, this is a great idea for most files. Of course my images are still in folders with the projects they belong to, but my life photos are in one stream. Files, contacts, a lot of data would benefit greatly from this visualization.

As for people with 1000 files on their desktop, who cares, they are as good as hoarders and they get what it comes to them. Discipline helps both in the real and in the digital world.

flyingshelf··on Chrome again exempts Google from user site data settings
What I mean is that the browser has exceptions for Google and that most likely not all code paths follow the user settings. Still a bug though.
flyingshelf··on Gateside by TSA Precheck
I wouldn't say false especially when quoting the whole sentence. What you suggest is so rare (worldwide) it might as well be false. It's such a bad idea for the airline to ship your bags before the passenger makes it onto the plane.
flyingshelf··on Gateside by TSA Precheck
Mind sharing what the incident was? Carrying too many valuables?
flyingshelf··on Gateside by TSA Precheck
FWIW your bags may still occasionally travel without you (but you still have to board A flight)
flyingshelf··on Gateside by TSA Precheck
Someone is paying for it, which is what we're arguing about.
flyingshelf··on Chrome again exempts Google from user site data settings
When you log into Google, you also log into Chrome. This means that you'll have a lot of exceptions for Google websites or else a "clear history" would log you out of Chrome.

Not justifying it (I don't use chrome) but that's likely what's happening here.

Yikes

That's a lie. 9€ is not the max you pay, it's metered and extra traffic costs extra. So what you said about others can just as well apply here.

What I see is some homemade service that costs $125/year and has little to show for it. There's nothing about what it offers on the website, the homepage has a handful of words. It claims "CDN" but doesn't say anything about what the exit points are. All I see is two "datacenters" in Northern Europe on the status page.

Heck even the CDN is in "private beta" so what are we paying for exactly? Lots of services in Europe are already available for 2-5€/month for the current level of service.

What I see is a 9€ ask for a list of promises. That's too much.

flyingshelf··on Statichost.eu – European static site hosting
Is that why even Google Docs has version control?
flyingshelf··on Statichost.eu – European static site hosting
Netlify and vercel have a generous free tier, I never paid a dime. What you might eventually pay for in those services is the exceptional DX, which this amateurish service will never get close to.

All this to say that 9€/month is way too expensive.

Par for the course for EU businesses, I'm all too familiar with this.

Having said that, wrapping is a totally acceptable way to display menus rather than sticking everything in a burger.

flyingshelf··on Statichost.eu – European static site hosting
That's not a good excuse. If the whole selling point is that you're gluten free you can't have grain flour on your fliers.
flyingshelf··on Statichost.eu – European static site hosting
No. No EU no EEA. Hard brexit. "European continent" has nothing to do with the .eu domain, which is restricted to EU citizens and businesses.
flyingshelf··on Statichost.eu – European static site hosting
> You can register and use a .eu domain if you are an EU or EEA citizen regardless of where you live, a resident in the European Union or European Economic Area, or a business or organization established within the EU/EEA.

UK is neither.

flyingshelf··on The asteroid currently hitting front end web development
I don’t think we're anywhere near the plateau. AI is still expensive and slow. Make it realtime, local and nearly-free and you got a problem.
flyingshelf··on The asteroid currently hitting front end web development
Doubtful. This is just the cost of doing business. 99.9999% uptime for a fraction of the cost is totally fine for all businesses. Government should be the exception though.
flyingshelf··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
I use yPlayer for that, plus SponsorBlock
flyingshelf··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
Why not use YouTube in Safari then? Haven't seen ads in years. Plenty of options to block them already.
flyingshelf··on Fastpotify
I never understood the complaints about Spotify. Apple Music behaved like crap with something as simple as being offline, to me it's always been a no-brainer to use Spotify over anything else.
