I don't think this is particularly strange when one thinks about the effect of ideology. It has a way of filtering any common reality different people have. I'm not sure how to move towards a common understanding without a larger sense of shared experience, but even then the same experience can have different interpretations.

That being said, having shared experience can help, at least anecdotally, in being able to come to terms with wildly differing views. One example I have is with my brother. With the same event we had come away with a drastically different understanding. The facts between us all checked out, and we confirmed it many times. Yet the shared vocabulary gave us a way of acknowledging the others disagreement in the shared experience.

I don't see that, maybe it was temporary?

Interestingly enough, Kitchener, adjacent to Waterloo has a large population of German-descent. I wonder if the OP's spouse's experience in Germany has any relation.

That would be nice. Wonder if there'll be such a service with the federated small web. Good reads is too heavy on the social aspect for my taste.

I used LibraryThing a bit ago, but now I have a note with a list of books I add to regularly.

Wow that sounds incredible. I'm super into fonts, I understand the proprietary nature but if OCR isn't used and neither is flatbed scanning, does that mean the 3D model is obtained? I can't think of another method.

It's very cool, would love to see some fonts you have available whenever it's out!

flutteringfool··on Fingine: Thoughts on Side Projects and Financial Simulation
I found this and thought the idea was interesting. Does anyone know what a more fleshed out version might look like? My experience with personal finance is limited to GnuCash, which isn't in the space of projections as far as I know.
