I'm messing with Elixir just for fun, so this caught my eye.
One stupid workaround I've done is set a hot corner to "put display to sleep." Sometimes I hit my touch ID, and nothing happens, but I know the Studio is awake. If it's awake I can slide the mouse to the hot corner to sleep, then move it again and it will wake up the monitor.
I really don't understand why this is still an issue with these otherwise amazing machines.
In addition, going from my Mac to an iPad is laggy and it had the caps lock flipped between each machine!
What is really fun though is Synergy, which a few years ago was running a Mac, a Linux box, and an O2 all from the same keyboard and mouse.
Why did they circle that boat? Who is going to see it? What is the circled date on the other example? Did it get added to a calendar, or did it just go nowhere?
Can't they at least show cool young people working in a beach shop circling pictures of surfboards for no reason, like actual stylus users?
Unrelated to making fun of advertising... What happens to these examples when the site gets updated? Does it store a local copy? What if you want to update it later, but your local copy is now out of date?
I did just download Windows 10 to try in a VM, so I guess I'll find out!
It's not quite as involved as this 11/04, but still a lot of fun. I'm not having much like right now though!
I find the iOS SDK to be pretty solid. Push notifications also work really well.
I have also noticed requests fail from time to time , but it hasn't been too much of an issue.
What I don't like is the query system. What would be trivial in SQL is sometimes difficult or impossible.
I also just don't like that cloud code queries are all asynchronous. Promises help, but complex operations end up as a huge nest of promises. I just have no need for server-side code to be asynchronous.
The console has been slightly improved, but the data browser is still a bit painful. They like to break the back button quite a bit too.
I have one large app using Parse as a back-end, but otherwise I just use it for push.
I did have to manually remove Rackspace ticket updates from the promotions tab. I was wondering why they weren't responding to me for a little while!
You can also tell iTerm to report its terminal type as something specific, then do something like this in your bashrc to setup a different prompt if you're not on OSX:
if [ $TERM = "xterm-256color" ]; then
I don't know things work at GitHub, but our ideas are scrawled on random papers, whiteboards, and windows. We also never seem to have a perfectly posed pencil anywhere in sight.
Either way, I still love GitHub!
Apps like Instagram are businesses with passionate developers and back-end systems that you just can't do with random developers that will work on junk projects for no pay.
