fl0id··on Vibe Code Warning – A personal casestudy
Under any current / capitalist system by design it won’t be different because managers/capital want to increase gains, which contradicts allowing you to keep the gains.
fl0id··on Palisades Fire suspect's ChatGPT history to be used as evidence
So perfect if ppl want their partner to be molded a certain way
fl0id··on Boring Company cited for almost 800 environmental violations in Las Vegas
it's telling that he only sees effectiveness in what he wants. these rules are there for environmental protection, and in a worst case scenario, a fine is not gonna bring back the clean soil, or whatever was done.
fl0id··on Instant Checkout and the Agentic Commerce Protocol
Not cynical, realistic
fl0id··on Typst: A Possible LaTeX Replacement
The immediate no for scientific collaborations is zotero support being paid only. If it was just one user, sure they could decide to pay. But no way I am convincing others to sign up. (If this is somehow possible without paying while not ‚syncing‘ it’s not obvious)
fl0id··on Tell the EU: Don't Break Encryption with "Chat Control"
I'd really like them to bury this once and for all. It's really exhausting that it's like an undead zombie that always comes back.
fl0id··on Universities should be more than toll gates
LOL no. Here right wingers just want to defund higher ed and control what they do. None of which will help with quality of output. (and those rankings are largely useless anyway) they don’t want more educated ppl, because they blame education for what they see wrong with society and would undermine their base. (Like how there’s claims that unis make people leftist or similar )
fl0id··on Universities should be more than toll gates
To blame are employers but also politicians and Uni admin staff enabling the narrative that a degree should always be about employable skills. First employers often eintreten know what they need and in general this focus on practice is exactly what promotes roteness imo
fl0id··on Hermes 4
There is no neutral. It will just be biased based on its training data etc.
fl0id··on License plate camera company halts cooperation with federal agencies
Because there’s a law against it in Illinois.
fl0id··on Illinois limits the use of AI in therapy and psychotherapy
That’s actually a example of sth different. And as it’s basically a placebo it only harms people’s wallets (mostly). That cannot be said for random llm failure modes. And whether it can be prescribed by doctors depends very much on the country
fl0id··on Illinois limits the use of AI in therapy and psychotherapy
When has technological progress leveled the playing field? Like never. At best it shifted it, like that a machine manufacturer got rich in addition to existing wealth. There is no reason for this to go different with AI, and it’s far from certain that it will become better anything anytime soon. Cheaper, sure. But then ppl might see slight improvements from talking to ann original Eliza/Markov bot, and nobody advocated using those as therapy
fl0id··on Illinois limits the use of AI in therapy and psychotherapy
This. At least here therapists don’t have a problem getting new patients.
fl0id··on VC-backed company just killed my EU trademark for a small OSS project
You can also write to FSFE about it, afaik they give legal advice in foss cases.
fl0id··on AI overviews cause massive drop in search clicks
That’s just a general explainer of subscription models. As of right now VC money is necessary for just existing. And they can never stop training or researching. They also constantly have to buy new gpus unless there’s at some point a plateau of ‘good enough’
fl0id··on MARS.EXE → COM (2021)
at the end, it says it was at least tested to compile (and presumably run) on real machines.
fl0id··on Show HN: I built an LLM chat app because we shouldn't need 10 AI subscriptions
this already existed with things like POE. like I mean for normal users, with a subscription for multiple models. same with frontends for api keys.
fl0id··on I extracted the safety filters from Apple Intelligence models
Actually even of their was AGI, it would be even more necessary to control it.
fl0id··on Large Language Models Are Improving Exponentially
I call BS. That graph seems very misleading, like just getting faster for me is not improving exponentially. By improving exponentially most ppl would understand getting smarter
fl0id··on Apple Will Transition from the CTF to the CTC for EU Businesses
You can usually get the rights but it costs more. Like in software if you want an exclusive license…
fl0id··on Klein Bottle Amazon Brand Hijacking (2021)
Nile has even a masters in chemistry I think, and very likely at least a business entity. So might work. And even for him some things are hard to get, a Canada has similar restrictions.
fl0id··on Harper – an open-source alternative to Grammarly
Your first point would be more fitting if a language checker would need a complete, computable grammar that can be parsed and understood. That would be problematic for natural languages.
fl0id··on Show HN: Tritium – The Legal IDE in Rust
Word has the worst performance ever. So I don't think competing with Word on performance should be hard.
fl0id··on Kagi Reaches 50k Users
Yeah same. Super worried
fl0id··on BorgBackup 2 has no server-side append-only anymore
Which is exactly what the borg suggest in their issue.
fl0id··on A thought on JavaScript "proof of work" anti-scraper systems
For the model it’s not. But I think many of these bots are also from tool usage or ‚research‘ or whatever they call it these days. And for that it doesnatter
fl0id··on Gemini figured out my nephew’s name
AFAIK it will have f e access to your account, browser info and f e location information. Just from that it can figure stuff out. Some guy tested that when they asked to locate a photo.
fl0id··on Watching o3 guess a photo's location is surreal, dystopian and entertaining
Same. Like Claude code for example will write some tests. But what they are testing is often incorrect
fl0id··on ByteDance Releases MegaTTS3
I count 3 lines. And that is only if everything works and you have conda etc installed already
fl0id··on I created an MVP for an AI SVG maker in a week! Check it out!
What did you train it on? Would be great to k ow if I’m opening myself up to liabilities by using it
