Looking for help with v2. Hoping to connect with talented web/mobile devs. Thank you!
FYI: Sign-up not fully functional, Now Playing link doesn't always work, selecting a search result might not always work either. Sorry haven't touched the code in several months. I'm hoping to revive this little passion project though!
I'm looking for help taking it to v2 (already have v2 designs) and an iOS app where I feel this really belongs. Pure passion project but hope to monetize it with the right team. Cheers and any feedback / pointers greatly appreciated. Hoping I can connect with some dev talent here.
Technically this is slick and the UX isn't bad for an MVP, assuming you did this all yourself? Did you use meteor framework? You should put an email/about up there so I know who made this.
email me would love to kick around some ideas: ffjabre@gmail.com
If you don't want traffic congestion you might consider not living in Los Angeles.
To be honest I think this is much more valuable information for docs because they are clueless in many cases regarding reimbursement amounts they should be getting for tests they perform in their practice and they would probably want this more to see what insurance companies are doing in their area with other docs to the point where they would probably pay for that info. Docs are under-served, especially in this new market, not patients - who are being over marketed to.
As I've been in healthcare for some time I know first hand that they ask for EOBs (estimation of benefits) a lot actually.
* I started a diagnostics healthcare company and many of the docs I talk to could use a service like this to help them figure out what they should be collecting on certain diagnostic tests, or if they can perform a particular kind of diagnostic test at all.
One other pitfall I see is that initially, you want to market the idea to some targeted audience. That audience may or may not be HN. I don't believe a true product-market fit will be evident simply by 'validating' an idea on HN/PH. A true product-market fit should only be evident when directly targeting the audience the app was designed for. And the only two experts in those domains will be yourself and the customer.
The app itself is pretty simple. It just uses a webview to load in the netflix content and is hooked up to a django backend.
I built this app to keep me company while I was working. I found the Netflix site is always overwhelming. So I put up a simplified concept.
I spent nights/weekends on it. I like to hack around on small projects like this in my spare time.
Any feedback greatly appreciated.
You'd be better served making a native app that integrates with a RESTful web api on the backend.
You still get the reach that the web provides, while having access to all the presentation and graphics goodies you get in a native app environment.
You're not special. You can be automated. I hope you are and I hope I am too. This is the future and I welcome it.

Also, anecdotally I believe men far outnumber women on these sites so that clearly skews the ratio in women's favor which means by law of supply and demand women choose on these sites and not men in most cases. I've gone on dates with women I met online and many of them told me it was not uncommon for them to receive hundreds of messages a day and here we have a brilliant PhD student happy with 20. Just sayin
Any thoughts on leap motion and its acceptance into the consumer market? There seems to be a lot of hype surrounding it. Passing fad or legit disruptive tech? Something I'd like to research more before using this in future projects.
The problem with developing and marketing CRMs is:
1. Very crowded space
2. You need to attract a lot of customers because revenue/customer for SaaS apps like CRMs are low: https://highrisehq.com/signup for example. When most of your customers will be on the free plan or paying you just $30-$40/month you'll need to attract 1000s in a very crowded space with plenty of low cost options around.
3. You can't tightly integrate email without going to a lot of trouble or resorting to a hack b/c Gmail and other services don't allow you to integrate their special sauce into your application. And IMAP isn't a viable option because of the low revenue/customer (IMAP is heavy and will cost you in bandwidth and storage).
4. Mission critical. If your CRM goes down even for a few minutes and you have 1000s of customers you're going to get a lot of angry phone calls. Not to mention a whole host of other issues that can go wrong like data loss, security breaches. Don't forget this is sensitive business data you'll be acting as a gatekeeper for. If something fails it'll be your head.
I'm a techno-libertarian and I hope that one day all drugs will be legal again, albeit highly regulated and taxed so we can all reap the benefits of that market instead of wasting trillions trying to suppress it.
How about this, send a link to your site to all of your friends. Ask them if they'll share it with their friends - via email or text -> novel idea right? If people really like what you've made then you won't have to go around doing shameless self promotion and being a slave to Twitter and Facebook status updates on every little detail about your app, your company, or your team.
When did marketing an app become so ego-centric? I don't give a shit what you look like. I don't care how many people are on your team. I don't care whether you have 50,000 twitter bot followers. Does your app make me want to use it more? Does it fulfill a real need I have or invent a need I never knew I had? If it's reliable and I like it or need it then guess what: I'll use it.
