fizzbar··on New research suggests people can communicate and practice skills while dreaming
Top performers manufacture 33% more hours in the day thanks to this one weird trick!
fizzbar··on Effortless personal productivity (or how I learned to love my monkey mind)
thank you for sharing such a detailed and simple workflow!
fizzbar··on Twitter CFO Anthony Noto Privately Analyzes Facebook
It was so painful to read that I had to give up, but from experience this isn't particularly rare; these dudes are typically so busy that they're hammering out missives like this as quickly as possible, no time to proof read or grammar check. Speed of response and communicating the core concepts is paramount.
fizzbar··on Facebook Rooms
Like the roaring successes of Home, Paper, and whatever that Snapchat clone thing was...?
fizzbar··on Google Launches Cloud Platform for Startups
Please enlighten us then, what CPU mined crypto currency is best for this?
fizzbar··on Why Yahoo Keeps Killing Everything It Buys
What arbitrage game are you speaking of?
fizzbar··on WhatsApplebee's: the premiere Applebee's-based social chat app
Awesome, hope it blows up. Perhaps this should be what season 2 of Silicon Valley is about.

The only thing more awesome than this is the fact that the author's last name is freaking LAZER-WALKER.

fizzbar··on Dear Internet: Let’s Demo The Slow Lane
No difference. QoS can/will be used to implement the slow lane, that's all.
fizzbar··on The Case Against ISP Tolls
This is what you are advocating for: http://www.willchatham.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/net.pn...
fizzbar··on The Case Against ISP Tolls
This image http://www.willchatham.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/net.pn... has been making the rounds on reddit, surprised it hasn't appeared here yet. This is the most visceral/succinct explanation of the consequences of allowing the ISPs to have a "fast lane"...
fizzbar··on Oculus Says They Didn't Expect Such Negative Reactions to Selling to Facebook
I don't think FB is dumb, but I do fear that they are highly amoral with respect to personal privacy... And a VR screen glued to your face is getting pretty damn personal. I feel uneasy about a guy who calls his users "dumb fucks" for trusting him to be in charge of that.
fizzbar··on Oculus Says They Didn't Expect Such Negative Reactions to Selling to Facebook
aka Flipboard by Facebook?
fizzbar··on Project Tango
If those are just the ads, what are the movies? Holodecks?
fizzbar··on StackMob is shutting down
I'm all about the Couch/Pouch ecosystem. :)
fizzbar··on John Yudkin: the man who tried to warn us about sugar
He's commenting on the fact that large populations of humanity (pretty much all of Asia and Oceania) subsist on high carb diets -- lots of rice and bananas -- yet don't exhibit massive rates of heart disease etc.
fizzbar··on StackMob is shutting down
> (except for the bugs they've been having the past week which don't allow us to create new columns or deploy)

thanks for reminding me why i'll never outsource my app's primary datastore. 'tis a bridge too far.

fizzbar··on Chromebox, now for simpler and better meetings
Huh. Can anyone think of why this isn't going to totally dominate the videoconference space in a few years? Cheaper + works better == huge win, no?
fizzbar··on Getting to No: The Key to Startup Selling
It's broken in Chrome. Use Firefox to view.
fizzbar··on How To Become Uber Productive While Working For Yourself
Maybe, but 99% of the time it's because the proprietors can't pay their bills when people occupy their limited seating area for hours and hours on end without spending any money. Take the hint and find a Starbucks.
fizzbar··on How To Become Uber Productive While Working For Yourself
> The café that has the A/C pushed to arctic temperatures when you're in shorts and sandals in the summer. The café that is freezing cold in the middle of winter.

This is done very much on purpose to subtly (passive-aggressively?) discourage people from camping out and using their coffee shops as offices.

fizzbar··on Uruguay legalises production and sale of cannabis
Thank you. Some (most?) North Americans seem to be culturally incapable of looking further than their country's borders to see how other nations deal with the same problem... Prohibitionists are usually dumbstruck when i raise the Portugal example, as if i must be just flat-out lying about a country that actually tried something different, and saw positive results.
fizzbar··on David Simon: 'There are now two Americas. My country is a horror show'
How do you define what the "return" is? Perhaps it's not an immediate causal relationship, but a much more complicated, interrelated set of returns -- like a more cohesive, inclusive, better functioning society.

Paying more for welfare to others might pay off in being able to walk the streets at night without being mugged, for example.

fizzbar··on New Dell UltraSharp Monitors
How much did that set you back? And how far away from it do you sit?
fizzbar··on Mavericks – power use / service battery
80%...! Very impressive. What's the cycle count on your battery? My mbp is of a similar vintage, but after 900 or so cycles, the battery is down to 1700mah at "full". But w/ mavericks that's still about 2.5 hrs of runtime (1.75 hrs on Lion).
fizzbar··on Two Ways to Get to a $100 Million Valuation
"Virality" is not something anyone has figured out how to bottle up and reproduce (and if they have, they're not sharing).

The music industry analogy would be to say "just make all your songs into hit records, that's how you get listeners".

fizzbar··on JavaScript right on the hardware
If Smalltalk ran on every.single.browser.ever, you would.
fizzbar··on Meet the Dread Pirate Roberts, the man behind Silk Road
The article states that exactly.
fizzbar··on CouchDB merges in BigCouch
I should observe that daleharvey is being very modest by the casual mention of PouchDB, which I think is actually one of the coolest things the Couch ecosystem has going for it right now. :)
fizzbar··on The sad story of Facebook Platform
I think Zuckerberg was especially naive in this regard; I suspect he truly thought FB could successfully execute the "totally fair and open platform" strategy.

Reality did not agree.

fizzbar··on The Vitamin Myth: Why We Think We Need Supplements
Diet and exercise/lifestyle go a long way, but individual variation is still large -- perfect example: my wife and i have identical diets and eating habits, and my vitals are all "normal" -- yet she is b12 and vitamin D deficient, because her lower intestine doesn't absorb those into her body as effectively as mine does.
