I whole heartily agree. Even when they are a clear danger to themselves, getting help can be non existent. I tried to save the mother of my children. Went to court numerous times and couldn't even get to a hearing, even when the doctors support it, there are barriers with HIPPA. Individual is now deceased.
You can not just rely on air gapped either. You have other avenues for attack as well. I actually virtualize most of my legacy OSes when possible. Just maintaining adequate serial connections when a USB to serial connector will not work with your legacy OS and a VM can't maintain a stable serial connection through the host OS. It's been a nightmare.
If you are a weirdo then, so am I. I know quite a few who drink very little. Most just aren't vocal about it. I had 5 servings of alcohol last year. My lack of drinking has been an issue in many of my relationships. People get self conscious when I don't drink.
I wish there was more thinking along these lines. Almost all governments must publish there secrets. Total transparency can help in many situations. I wonder what political maneuvering would be like.
I had this told to me and had family members told this by doctors. A large number of addicts started from medical prescriptions for legitimate pain. I have been scolded for not taking pain meds.
I have found it relatively easy to just run a local CA for my isolated network. I didn't find it too difficult to setup. I run around 600 servers and about 20x that in IOT devices.
Oh, I used this and the performance and deduplication surprised me greatly in ReFS. I was using it as a place to store backups of my systems. The on disk vs the file size was so great that I had to rethink my offsite storage solutions. There was a recent article on here from a researcher at Microsoft on file size and deduplication.
I usually see the not able to cope with the volume. I have also seen trap primers and regulators not set correctly so the toilets won't properly flush. I have also never understood why a plunger or a toilet brush was not available in the stall. I keep one in my bathroom so if there is an issue I can address it easily and quickly. Not able to keep up with the volume is more common than in should be.
I have been of the opinion that everyone needs to hold themselves accountable. The wealthy and the poor and understand why someone does what they do. Public urination? Are there sufficient facilities available? I live in the US and if I am out and about, finding an appropriate place to use the facilities is quite difficult at times. A disturbing large number of businesses in poor areas block there restrooms and or are "out of order". No, the frequency of them being "out of order" is not realistic. They are intentionally "out of order" to deny having to deal with the issue. The simple of ensuring everyone can live and exist with dignity I do hold the bourgeoise accountable for. Pointing to personal responsibility while not first ensuring everyone can adequately live is a sin.
I am often of the opinion many technical people can't bring abstract ideas across domains. I have seen people recognize things in context and ignore the same idea in another one. They loose sight of the details when looking to high up or looking at reports instead of building the reports themselves.
I have heard this claim before, but I haven't been able to find any strong evidence of this. Can you provide some links to places this has happened to? Developed countries specifically.
You generally can not go from city water/sewage to on-prem for legal reasons. However, many are going on-prem with solar. I am going almost completely off-grid for cost and SLA requirements.
The current state of cyber security in industrial networks is quite scary. Many systems rely on legacy software and can not be upgraded. Also take into account the old people running the system are often hesitant to try new technologies and often do not have the wide ranging IT and cyber security knowledge to make the right decisions. Even getting isolated networks and changing default passwords can be difficult.
I have tried GnuCash in the past. It was too complicated for my needs. All other budgeting software I thought was too complicated and complex for the average person. I use a spreadsheet to handle my budget. I keep it as a reminder that temporary solutions can become permanent. The file name is "planstemp". It was temporary more about ten years ago. I found using different banks depending on the purpose of the transaction the easiest way to keep track of expenses. I use one bank for regular monthly expenses and another for daily expenses. Regular expenses are predictable. If I was running a business, I keep that separate from personal.
Some people the money is necessary for survival. Those salaries are not easy to replicate outside of big tech. Making six figures is difficult in a lot of places. When I interviewed for Meta I knew I would accept what they gave me as they were offering remote at the time. I did not get the job, but I do actually need to support a family. Heck, where I live in the US, I would jump for less than $200k right now.
This one has always bothered me. I literally knew the people who were doing the hiring and they knew me. However, still had to jump through hoops. Got blocked by HR and they were not allowed to even interview me.
I am not a fan of voting for judges. Judges should be determined by technical merits and skills more like hiring a developer. This I think would be better handled by having a diverse group of judges routinely review all decisions by a judge and issuing corrective actions against the judge. This review should be done periodically and not require an appeal.
I always start out with I was a nobody and didn't do anything exciting or interesting which is the truth. It just sounds more exciting than it really was. I answered the phone and said "so and so is not available, can I take a message" on unsecured lines. I got the job because I was the only one in the temp unit awaiting orders who wasn't there for disciplinary reasons. The "so and so" was a political appointee.
