findjashua··on India's Misguided War on Cash
"India is conducting a big test of the idea that getting rid of cash can help address crime and corruption"

Demonetization is far from an 'experiment'. It's a fairly common practice: India did it in the 20s & the 40s, Nixon did it in the late 60s, the European Central Bank also did it recently.

findjashua··on What I learned from spending 3 months applying to jobs after a coding bootcamp
Not all bootcamps are equal. I've interviewed candidates from most of them, and the ones from Hack Reactor (the one that the author went to) were consistently of top notch quality.

Totally. It doesn't serve any purpose other than signaling status, can't imagine what else anyone could possibly like about it. /s

findjashua··on Donald Trump Is Elected President
> Having the same opinion for 24 years is not a virtue.

That was not what GP was saying at all. He was saying that Bernie has always stood for what he believes is the right thing to do, whereas Hillary would pick a stance based on its political value.

findjashua··on Next.js – A small framework for server-rendered universal JavaScript apps
server side rendering only on the first load / if the client has disabled js. If the client has js enabled, after the first load, the app works as a js spa
findjashua··on Django REST framework 3.5
Don't you still need Futures for async stuff in order to not block the thread, or is each request handled by a lightweight 'fiber' (erlang process/goroutine)?
findjashua··on Final – A credit card built for the 21st century
As another commenter has posted - bofa & citi also let customers generate 'virtual' cc numbers. So Final is only useful for customers of other banks, or is there any advantage for bofa/citi customers as well?
findjashua··on Peter Thiel, YC, and hard decisions
I agree with your sentiment that society would be much better without racial segregation, but pretending it doesn't exist won't make it go away - the first step to fixing a problem is to acknowledge that it exists.

findjashua··on The 2016 Election
The Guardian also published a really good article explaining how blue-collar workers are hurting because of their jobs being off-shored, and how Trump's promise to end free-trade agreements and bring those jobs back to the US is the biggest reason behind his appeal:

findjashua··on Exponent – Build native apps in JS that work across both iOS and Android
iirc JS changes that don't modify app behavior are allowed to be updated on the fly
findjashua··on Why Vue (Not React) Is the New jQuery
The arguments provided by the author are rather poor:

1. setting up babel, webpack etc - you don't have to do the setup yourself, just use the cli (https://github.com/facebookincubator/create-react-app)

2. learning es6 syntax - that's not a framework-specific problem, you could run into that w any framework (personally, I don't think it's a problem to begin with, since es6 is actually a lot nicer to work with)

It would've been a lot better if he showed what specific features of Vue make it easier to build apps w it.

findjashua··on California bans ITT tech from accepting new students
Depends on the bootcamp. Some of the best candidates I've interviewed graduated from hack reactor.
findjashua··on Can Tech Tools Make Apartment-Hunting in New York Affordable?
Airbnb isn't increasing the inventory, just enabling owners lease out existing inventory. Even there, it's focused on short-term rentals instead of long-term.

If you want to increase the number of residences on a given piece of land, you have to replace single family homes with high-rises, no way around it.

findjashua··on Can Tech Tools Make Apartment-Hunting in New York Affordable?
The reason Uber/Lyft were able to disrupt medallions was primarily due to ending the artificial shortage. Technology was just a means to that end, not the primary factor.
findjashua··on Can Tech Tools Make Apartment-Hunting in New York Affordable?
OP's argument is to match supply with demand, not to increase demand (which is more of a function of the job market in the area than anything else)
findjashua··on Google Duo, a simple 1-to-1 video calling app

findjashua··on Think before you Mongo
Any particular reason you want it at the db layer? Wouldn't having it at the query builder/orm layer suffice?
findjashua··on Dropbox Is in Talks with Advisers for Possible 2017 IPO
The tax liabilities on the 'paper gain' could easily go into the six figures. Not sure if many people would be able to do that, let alone want to.

I think they're the only one w linux support? (Not that I expect that to be a significant marketshare)
findjashua··on A Denver Suburb Experiments with Free Lyft Rides to Light Rail
I've had a pretty good experience with Lyft Line tbh.

The fare is based on the destination, so I don't get charged extra if the driver takes a longer route, or if the ride takes longer due to traffic, or if there aren't other passengers available to carpool.

The fare is also pretty reasonable - lyft line for 2 people comes out about the same as the Muni, so it's pretty much replaced Muni for me.

They also recently added the option of entering more than 1 destination, which is pretty handy when you're dropping someone off on the way home.

PS: I'm not affiliated with Lyft, just a satisfied customer.
