Interestingly, it was my favorite line from the article, and I strongly agree
fifnir··on Debian 9.2 released
And it is even worse for expats.

There's many sites that force the local language down your throat and it's sooooo annoying...

fifnir··on Top medical experts say we should decriminalize all drugs (2016)
Yeah their idiotic comments in online forums should hopefully make them undesirable to the opposite sex...

I wonder what would happen if wow subscriptions became illegal and the only way to get one more month of the stuff is to find a "guy"
fifnir··on Top medical experts say we should decriminalize all drugs (2016)
And ILLEGAL drugs lead to crime much easier than legal one since you need to socialize with (sometimes) criminals to get your stuff.

>Alcohol is illegal here until you're 21

Did anyone ask for drugs to be legal for kids? or to not be regulated at all?

> We even tried to make it illegal but it wasn't tenable.

Neither is the war on drugs, you have to be blind to not acknowledge its huge failure, both economically and socially.

fifnir··on Show HN: Nulis – Open Source Tree Editor for Writers
Hey there's a little typo in "How it works":

"beraking down your large writing goals"

fifnir··on Bringing back the iPhone headphone jack, in China
You should check his video on this, the guy also casually bought a dremmel, a printer and a fucking microscope (stereoscope?) in the process of making this....
fifnir··on Ask HN: Does one feel they are contributing positively to society?

I like the idea a lot, since i often catch myself opening a new reddit tab right after closing another.

Anyone know of a way to accomplish this on linux?

Or maybe somehow through piehole or a similar system?

fifnir··on Ask HN: Why are more and more websites asking for phone numbers?
I had the exact same thing happen to me, fuck that.

fifnir··on Show HN: A travel tool to discover destinations based on your budget
Imagine you walk into a shop and the first thing that happens is the owner jumps in your face and asks you: "Hi would it be okay if we call you?"

Everyone is trying to push their notifications on you these days...

fifnir··on The lost letters of the English alphabet
Which is because the word was made by french based on the greek εγκύκλιος παιδεία

εν-κύκλος (in circle) --> εγκύκλιος παιδεία (education)

The core, generalized education one should have.

Words like paedagogic etc are also spelled like this in english (uk) because the language maintains the historic spelling

fifnir··on The lost letters of the English alphabet
And Latin used ae "to transliterate the Greek diphthong αι (alpha iota)" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%86)

Oe is also used in the same way I suppose, oestrogen for example comes from οιστρογόνο so in this case oe is transliterating omicron iota.

Some more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_words_of_Greek_origin#...

I was actually a bit disappointed that she doesn't mention all this in the article, "ae" is not aesthetical (another greek-derived word) ffs, it very often maintains the historical orthography of the word which I feel is very important.

fifnir··on The genomic era arrives, and this time is probably real
>Epigenetic activities may themselves be encoded in genes.

But good luck growing a healthy organism without its epigenetic landscape properly initialized

fifnir··on Ask HN: Can you show me how fast coding is in vim?

changed my life, now when I'm in ssh I can just "rsub this.txt" and it pops up in my currently running sublime window !
