Google is horrible now and search doesnt show anything relevant anymore. I miss old Google, with 30 pages of links. Now if you search for a specific quote and it wont find it. Everything is walled now and content you get is the one they want to push.
I have a feeling that once everything goes EV and autopilot, they will start phasing out regular cars or will make it more difficult to obtain the license.
V. Gluskov designed OGAS to help with planned economy but for whatever reason it got denied funding. Decades later we're trying to make AI do just that on global scale.
From WIKI:
In 2016, a book dedicated to OGAS was published in the US, entitled How Not to Network a Nation: The Uneasy History of the Soviet Internet, by Benjamin Peters, professor at University of Tulsa. Harvard University professor Jonathan Zittrain commented that the book "fills an important gap in the Internet's history, highlighting the ways in which generativity and openness have been essential to networked innovation".[15] A reviewer of the book at MIT wrote:[16] "Soviet attempts to build a national computer network were undone by socialists who seemed to behave like capitalists".
I'd rather not engage in politics in HN, I'm surprised the article made it here to begin with like it's Reddit. Also, if people already made up their mind then there's no reason for me to waste my time trying to explain anything, it will take a stand alone post with multiple pages if were really to go that route. I will say this, my position is similar to what Mearsheimer has been talking about when it comes to this conflict. Any of his lectures will brief you in on the nuance.
I grew up in post-USSR state and living in those conditions was part of my childhood. I understand the limitations. I'm just tired of city life and all property has been sold by my parents. I would be okay living 50 miles away from a major city like a lot of folks do here in Texas. My initial comment was perhaps a little ambitious, but I'm not a hermit. The issue is, living out in the country is probably more expensive than my current situation.
I tried to get a job back then but never could. Its wild to read to me that it was 'sink or swim' back then. Nobody wanted to hire a junior. So I never became a SWE and it was my passion since 14. Now I just don't care and too much time has passed.
Yes, I did Physics, Geometry infront of the committee to explain my answer. Language course was written under a dictation, one mistake would cost you a point out of 5. So you had to be flawless on everything, spelling, punctuation, structure, etc. I aced my physics and language, but got a C (3) in geometry, I fumbled on one question.
That's how my school did it even for high school courses. End of the year exams were infront of the committee. Same thing, you pull a ticket and have few minutes to prepare the answer. I aced physics course, that was a proud moment but credits didnt transfer when we moved overseas...
I'm going to get some push back on this but this is my steak night... I buy fillet and throw it in the over for 10 minutes or so, then I cut it up and thrown on the pan with regular butter, salt, pepper and its enough. It gets seared in butter to golden brown and still tender inside. Everything takes about 5 minutes of actual work, 20 if we count the prep and oven heating. My simple go to dinner now, and I got tired of eating medium rare all the time just to keep it "right". Coincidently, it doesnt work with regular sirloin, it gets tougher and not as pleasant as fillet.
The only "GTO" that I found beneficial was 'optimal play' from Mathematics of Poker. You don't have to read formulas and math because their summary section gives a pretty good overview of the concept that is easier to understand. They also have section on 'exploitative play' which is what you'd usually run into at the table.
I'm a hobbyist, what am I missing? LLM gave me a new spark. I never managed to get a SE job so some weekends I tinker around with LLM for small personal projects and it helps me learn more.
Not a pro player but I do well enough recreationally in local clubs when I play. GTO in my experience is really not a threat. Most players dont play GTO and against bad players GTO is not a factor. I've played with solvers before but I see no value for my current stakes. Nor do I feel that GTO is important. Perhaps in computer simulations but... its all theoretical and just fun and games. You'd need to play HU against Phil Galfond if you want GTO to be useful but how many players will be challenged like that?
That could be me, I don't think I have ADHD but I might have some tendencies that were developed after I moved to the US in my teens. The culture was different, fast moving, and very hectic. My 20s were hell because I couldn't figure it all out. Not much changed since then.
It has been helpful to me and many others. Some people do develop a habit. There are multiple subs on Reddit that are pro and con kratom. Personally, its all mental. I've used Kratom on and off, sometimes weeks, sometimes months. Once I'm done with my cycle, I drop it with no WD or anything. If I was using 7-oh, that would be a different story.
I'm not the other guy but slow down there sparky. You can OD on water too. There are addicts and then there are people that use it responsibly for pain, sleep, anxiety, etc. 7-oh is absolutely harmful. Regular leaf is safe.
I just kinda skimmed through it, so it detects drones in sky? Am I understanding this correctly? That might have some defense application considering what's going on in Eastern Europe right now.
I've never had that issue with Grok. Latest studies I've seen put him in a very neutral zone. Left/Center/Right politics were all about the same percentages in his replies. Gemini was similar. Other two were heavily left wing leaning. When it comes to politics and world events, I find Grok to be neutral and it will push back. It helps that he is fetching it directly from X and shows references. Others just Google for biased news articles to present their idea.
It certainly does work. It worked remarkably well. It changed the whole public perception of war in 1917-1918. If you can find it, read "How We Advertised America" by George Creel. Bernays was involved in that.
Well, you're right about Bernays getting too much credit. It's just at the same time he was a major player as well.
After re-reading your comment, I think we are on the same page, more or less. But Lippmann was writing about the very same work and propaganda that Bernays actively participated and "invented" during his time at CPI. Lippmann saw how it played out in 1917-1918, so he wrote about it. Bernays later wrote his book, but it wasn't journalistic work, he wrote from direct experience.
Yes and no. Bernays was one of the players during WWI propaganda, specifically he was part of Committee on Public Information. If I remember correctly, Lippmann had in mind that particular time period when he wrote about manufacturing consent. A real eye opening account comes from George Creel, organizer of CPI. If you haven't read that yet, look into "How We Advertised America." It's incredible, I wrote a paper on this for my undergrad thesis. Propaganda of that time was so remarkable that you can use their copy as a classic example in advertising today.
That's pretty impressive, the win rate and amount of hands played. It's certainly not a fluke. At the same time, these 4 pros, I've never heard of them. This AI and organizers should focus on HU specialists. Perhaps even invite players like Negreanu, Ivey, and more recent online pros who've made a fortune. Just don't let Hellmuth to play this machine, it would be a disaster.
That would be interesting to read about this journey. I am pretty much starting my first steps in the same direction, don't know where I'll be but I don't have any other plans or choice.
