esp. important to point that correct term because frog boiling is a urban myth.

frogs dont stay in a pot even if you slowly increase the heat. they leave. it has reportedly been attempted multiple times and they. always. leave.

Ah, I really walked into that one. Yeah, the phrasing + placement of the remark implied that all comments are artificial.

That was not my actual intent, it was poorly expressed by me. I was specifically talking about the account which created the comment colinhb responded to. That'd make it the... Grand Grand Grand grandparent now I think?

ffsm8··on Opus 5 is currently #1 on Artificial Analysis Intelligence Leaderboard
I suspect most of those comments on llms like the parents are generated by anthropic and openai to shape the discussion/mindset

They always give off the same astroturfing vibes that reddit became infested with after the early 2010s (just look at it's comment history)

Ofc unprovable for users. Ycombinatior could try to, but it'd just become a cat/mouse game which they'd likely lose because of the incentives

ffsm8··on Why Software Factories Fail (or: harness engineering is not enough)
i mean youre most likely not wrong (i dont have insider knowledge of those places), however your previous comment said "never want it to be dark" - when the reality is that its normal operation _is_ dark. only when the automated QA detects issues or theyre doing random inspections are the lights turned up/on

this is an outdated video for waht was state of the art a few years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCBdcNA_FsI

again, i dont have insider knowledge so i cannot speak on whats SOTA in chinese automated factories beyond whats covered publicly

ffsm8··on Hetzner is working on LLM Inference
These are all solid choices, but significantly less performance/€

Understandably too, because hetzner is running things on consumer hardware vs the enterprise hardware the others use

ffsm8··on Why Software Factories Fail (or: harness engineering is not enough)
> If you built a real factory, you’d basically never want it to be dark

This statement seems to be factually untrue as the fully automated factories in China are indeed not illuminated for most of the time

In USA/Europe we just don't have that level of automation

? I literally said that, how am I wrong?

> You can only argue with damages from the perspective of potential profits, still not theft though.

Damages are not deprival of ownership. They're conceptually related but orthogonal

Also there was no moral judgement from my end, I just pointed out that an incorrect word is being applied. It's just not theft - by definition. But language is a fluid concept and definitions change over time. As people keep misusing it, it will eventually lose its original meaning. Which may have already happened for you, but this change hasn't been settled yet as can be seen from looking at the official definitions of the term, which as of today still mention the criteria

ffsm8··on git's –end-of-options Flag
It's always such a good experience to read well written articles like this from the early 2010s when our industry was a lot less self-important

Especially because the text is actually written by a human, and it's clear from every sentence

ffsm8··on “We have information that Moonshot distilled Fable for the development of K3”
copyright infringement is not theft, even if right holders often claim it is.

part of the definition of theft is that the original owner is deprived of it, which does not apply to copyright infringement.

You can only argue with damages from the perspective of potential profits, still not theft though.

ffsm8··on Does creatine make you smarter?
and the thing people seem to not understand: how exactly do you _expect_ to be able to notice this change? Its something that happens after you take it for a prolonged period of time (>7days) and only has a minor/medium effect.

It doesn't make you a genius. I think a better view on it is that it may mitigate some of the adhs symptoms (at least for me).

I can keep on track for a significantly longer time since ive started supplementing with it at ~15g/day - and while i dont feel a difference, i can observe it when actually paying attention to what i do / how often i drift off etc.

ffsm8··on Kimi K3 Is Competitive with Fable; Kimi K3 and Fable Is SoTA
with all the hype around kimi i actually renewed my subscription (last time i tried it out was on 2.5 release) - just the 40€ one.

Its hard to compare that one to my regular sub of anthropic (107€), but everyone always says how much cheaper it is so i thought it was worth a try.

1.5 days later ive went through more then 50% of my weekly usage and decided to renew the regular anthropic sub too.

The API Pricing is definitely cheaper, but anthropics subscription budget seems to equalize that advantage right now. also kimi code feels like claude code from ... september 2025

also - considering how they announced they'd temporarily close subscriptions to make sure they can service customers... i was slightly surprised that there was no issue subscribing, less then 1 day after that announcement. Makes you think if that was just a marketing stunt

ffsm8··on New US homeownership measure puts people first
luxeries also haven't gotten cheap, really - their manufacturing has been outsourced into places which often don't pay decent wages - so it's just out of sight/out of mind.

We're currently living in a time where some of the issues are being hidden by the nature of a global market - it's friggin impossible to make any good analysis with a global market, it has just too many influences and ways to hide criteria...

ffsm8··on VTubing: How a Japanese Phenomenon Is Going Worldwide
that fillian controversy gives me flashbacks.... suprisingly little of that controversy seems to have survived, even though its only been 2 years.

this one is the only thing i could scrounge up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsXOyo1BM6Y - but always take what he says with a barrel of salt, he'S more trying to drum up drama then actually portrait things truthfully

ffsm8··on How we measured AI writing across arXiv, and where the measurement breaks
> It's hard to say if this code is structurally better or worse than before,

Huh?

But that's easy to tell?

It's better then incompetents code, worse then a motivated average dev... But good enough hence the real question is value aka time& money invested/quality.

That's much harder to tell, and I currently think opus/fable generated code is decent enough to be safely in favor - at least on subscription

ffsm8··on How proprietary formats have become Microsoft’s main tool for lock-in
Arguably not, if they're still doing eee... Even vscode is just a shell again with most noteable extensions /language servers being proprietary again
ffsm8··on Moonshot AI suspends new subscriptions due to Kimi K3 demand
That's not true, you need to provide a password to read the passwords saved in the browser whereas cookies can be read without any hassle from the developer tools

Cookies can also be queried programmatically, whereas passwords need to have the users auto fill active and interact with the input element

Most extensions have effectively full access to your cookies, not to your passwords - which is a real attack vector (session exfiltration) which is actively being used by had acteues

There are ofc server set cookies which are not programmatically queryable, but that's not the norm (and they're still visible via the developer tools, so the core statement remains untrue)

ffsm8··on Moonshot AI suspends new subscriptions due to Kimi K3 demand
Moonshot AI has two subscriptions archetypes and the one they link to from their main page is the subscription for the web interface/research/agents/OpenClaw (that they host for you)

There is a small link below the tiles for these plans saying something "looking to use it for code? Use Kimi code" and upon clicking you'll get a basically identically looking subscription page with different sub prices and more quota

Non coding plans:

   * Plus (19 "base agent" -- wahtever that might be)
   * Pro (39 x2 )
   * Max (99 x6)
   * Ultra (199 x12)
> https://www.kimi.com/membership/pricing

Coding plans:

    * Starter (19 - "base coding")
    * Explorer (49 - x4)
    * Expert (99 x10)
    * Master (219 x25)
> https://www.kimi.com/code

I stumbled on that when i tried Kimi K2.5 back when that was released.

It's also worth mentioning that the $20 get you a 0.25 priority for API usage - because the others get x4 priority. So get ready for a _slow_ experience

ffsm8··on Perforce charges $500 for training training videos.. and it's AI narrated
there is definitely a cost of doing either.

because if its human narrated, the likelihood of it being up-to-date drops because _updating it after changes costs actual money_, whereas the ai naratted likely only needs to have its script adjusted to kick of the generation pipeline.

it really depends on how well its actually implemented imo - and i have no idea how well this particular case is in parctice, as i've never worked with perforce.

nonetheless, charging for such a video is kinda incredible. i was just adressing the difference between human anrrated and ai narrated.

ffsm8··on The Kimi K3 Moment
Earlier today I made Claude code implement a feature with fable. It worked roughly 60 minutes and used around 30% of my 100€ subs 5h sessions.

Then I typed /code-review in a second terminal/clean session after the analysis was done (no code changes) the usage was 99%. I then asked it to write that into a review.md so I could restart from that the next day. Sadly the last % wasn't enough for that.

Ymmv, these models behave very differently with no discernable reason. Usually reviews(even with fable) take like 10-20%... Yet suddenly you get it to burn through 65-69% in 15 minutes or so

ffsm8··on Workspaces – Explore the workspaces of modern creators
Pretty sure he meant that as a synonym for "samey" - as in they're all of the same archetype of "clean setup" More about a display case / something meant to look like a workplace vs actually being one.
ffsm8··on 42% of adults rely on their parents for financial support
And anyone with a braincell would've remembered that wages didn't keep up with inflation, hence the point you're making isn't actually being made.

You're just being rude for no reason, which is also why I'm now rude to you. You could almost call it rudeflation, tomorrow we'll probably cause a rudeness singularity

ffsm8··on Photos of items from families in different countries with different incomes
Long mortgages are a really really bad idea with high interest percentages. Unless you've locked in a low percentage from before corona you're going to pay almost as much in interest as you'd be paying for the house...

To pay off 300k within 30 years at current mortgage interest of 4% you'll have to pay 1432/month (215k of interest will be necessary)

Depending on the amount of taxes you have to pay, thats likely > 50% of netto wage

ffsm8··on Guerrilla London bus ads mock Kylie Jenner’s Meta glasses campaign
Eh, realistically speaking the camera is it's main selling point. If you want just audio, why not get eg an aftershockz headset. They've been around for over 10 yrs and work very well for that exact usecase (speaker that doesn't block your ears whatsoever)

The translation feature is also available on your phone which you'll need to pull out when using it anyway, because otherwise the other party won't understand what you're saying either...

ffsm8··on Global Warming at 3 °C by 2050? What's Behind the New German Climate Warning
It is weasel language which actually says nothing in order to not be disprovable

The reason we see it all the time is because we've gotten used to people trying to convince us that some unlikely scenario will take place to increase urgency.

While global warming is happening, the quoted sentence should be raising your "this is someone trying to convince me of something that has a neglectable likelihood of becoming reality"-alarm

But sure, it could be that we may get a significant heat up within the next 20 years. Regardless of that, if you're living in Germany you probably should get an AC, as even if that doesn't manifest, things can already get too warm

ffsm8··on Germany set to restrict its Freedom of Information Act
Let's just remember that spd unironically thought the CumEx expert Scholz should be given the highest position in the government.

After that debacle I honestly cannot understand how anyone with even an iota of integrity can vote for them again and think any of them would ever act in the interests of their people

ffsm8··on Woman in Brazil enslaved for 55 years by 3 generations of the same family
That's just fake history. The US didn't start the Korean war, they helped SK stand free of the oppression of the seriously evil NK government.

China then interfered because they didn't want a US aligned country at their border.

However there have been decades since the affair settled - and I stand by my opinion that if the US and by extension NATO cares whatsoever, they'd have just told China "we won't interfere as long as you free NK citizens into free people".

It would've not been perfect at all, but at least the horrendous reality they are in would've been prevented.

ffsm8··on Woman in Brazil enslaved for 55 years by 3 generations of the same family
As if they stopped... The whole middle east is a shit show in that regard.

And North Korea continues to show that literally nobody cares, really. Because if they did, at least that would've been prevent- or at least stopable with some concessions to China. The North Korean people would've at least been treated as humans if they became part of China and the NK dictator along with the whole government be executed.

ffsm8··on My thoughts on the Bun Rust rewrite
I'm not sure what your point is, we all already acknowledged that people have been using the term differently, consequently changing the definition of the word over the years
ffsm8··on Train sim created by just one person is being called the best ever made
That's true, I just wanted to maybe add a new perspective to 101008 view that if he enjoyed working with technical constraints, he can still target eg embedded systems with massive resource constraints - and also to force an acknowledgement that the reason for his likely nostalgia to this kind of coding is likely more related to the mental freedom he enjoyed while working back then ... Because that too can be done, albeit with the caveat of time constraints because life doesn't go away no matter how much someone may want it to.
ffsm8··on Building a real-time AI tutor for 5-year-olds
Your reaction is based on 3 unproven assertions:

* An AI tutor is a net negative in learning for the subject matter it covers.

* An AI tutor does cause other harms.

* An AI tutor is going to be more expensive that someone who cannot afford a human tutor will still be able to afford an AI tutor.

Seriously, my first reaction to reading this headline was a knee jerk "are you insane", but this whole thread is just people arguing out of their arse while claiming authority. As of today, it was never attempted. It is also possible that the kids gain an advantage by learning to use llms to teach themselves things, which would be positive for their future.

I don't think it's going to happen, but that's just my opinion based on essentially prejudice, not a fact
