felooboolooomba··on The gap between open weights LLMs and closed source LLMs
Currently there's very much of a blur between "democratically chosen state" and "a private entity" (with a lot of money).
felooboolooomba··on The gap between open weights LLMs and closed source LLMs
They know. They just don't want a international incident to deal with. But if the shit hits the fan, they know.
felooboolooomba··on Jest/Vitest interactive course (runs in the browser)
Vitest is a brilliant software. I wish that the vitest vscode extension would be managed in a more careful manner though, too buggy for me to use.

> That only affects people in California

First they came for the Californians
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Californian
felooboolooomba··on The gap between open weights LLMs and closed source LLMs
> they can never be taken away

Your right to 3d print whatever you want is about to be taken away (in California).

What software you can run on your computer can already be restricted.

Absolutely everything can be taken away. The simplest way to remove open models is probably to declare them a tool that terrorists could use. Crazy? Yes, the world is totally crazy these days.

felooboolooomba··on Captcha proves you're human. HATCHA proves you're not
I feel violated.
felooboolooomba··on The 'papers, please' era of the internet will decimate your privacy
Meta has spent $2B lobbying for Age Verification Tech: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47410870
felooboolooomba··on LastPass notifies users of yet another data breach
Any detailed info on why Klue had this data, apart from being their partner? How does it serve LastPass customers to give that data to Klue?
felooboolooomba··on Markdy: Like Mermaid Diagrams, but for Motion
Cool project. Cringemaxxing demo, just like this comment.
felooboolooomba··on Big AI labs are hiring philosophers
That negative-trust future is already here.

When GPT showed up, I posted that the internet and the world as we knew it was over. I mostly got downvoted and negative comments.

felooboolooomba··on Crawling BitTorrent DHTs for Fun and Profit [pdf]
I solved it by storing the data on /dev/null

>more than half probably come from PR firms

Imagine how bad it is on social media.

felooboolooomba··on A Practical Guide to SSH Tunnels: Local and Remote Port Forwarding
It is, because manuals are often not the best way to learn things. Most software manuals are reference manuals. SSH man page isn't too bad. I learned most of my SSH knowledge from it, but I'm not sure it's the best way to do it.
felooboolooomba··on A Practical Guide to SSH Tunnels: Local and Remote Port Forwarding
As a sysadmin, one of your biggest ROI is learning the ins and outs of SSH.
felooboolooomba··on Trains halted across Germany because of communication system problem
> This entirely fits a missed signal or a signalling/protection failure

Perhaps a signalling/protection sabotage?

> No official has hinted at foul play either

That doesn't really mean much. Officials in the UK are incredibly reserved in hinting at something that they can't back up with evidence. Since they're still investigating, they keep their mouth shut. But yes, the sensible thing is to wait for the report.

felooboolooomba··on Trains halted across Germany because of communication system problem
There was also a very peculiar train crash in the UK just a few days ago. A train hit a stationary train. That shouldn't really happen in this day and age. Sabotage was the first thing that came to my mind.

felooboolooomba··on Polymarket has flooded social media with deceptive videos by paid creators
Not a stretch to call that a conflict of interests.
felooboolooomba··on Polymarket has flooded social media with deceptive videos by paid creators

felooboolooomba··on Prefer duplication over the wrong abstraction (2016)
The bad thing with abstractions is when you start it too early in your code base for things. It's also a bad thing when you start it too late, although not as bad. If you start it way, way, way too late it's very, very, very bad.

Of course, the worst abstractions are the ones you don't need at all.

felooboolooomba··on Show HN: Pulse – Dashboard for Claude Code, approve tool calls from your phone
I'll give this a try. CC already has a good /remote-control feature along with the mobile app. But it recently stopped sending me notifications on Android so it's not much use anymore.
felooboolooomba··on Bun has an open PR adding shared-memory threads to JavaScriptCore
Anthropic stuff runs on Bun, that's why they bought it. Should they be careful with Bun? Could Anthropic be a high value target for someone?
felooboolooomba··on Turns Out, There Is a Cabal of Elite Crazies Trying to Control the World
This is not a conspiracy theory. It's actual documented evidence. The Epstein files also shed light on this, Bannon traveling around Europe to fortify alt-right alliance and seed unrest.
felooboolooomba··on Renting a sewing machine from the library
If you went into programming because you like making things, odds are high you'll like sewing too. Speaking from experience.
felooboolooomba··on Renting a sewing machine from the library
Opposite experience. I studied mine extensively when I got it. I rarely have problems. But it's definitely a mechanical wonder.
felooboolooomba··on Why thinking out loud with someone beats thinking alone
No, I've hacked other peoples account to do that.
felooboolooomba··on Why thinking out loud with someone beats thinking alone
> And no I’m not schizophrenic.

Which of you? :)

felooboolooomba··on Why thinking out loud with someone beats thinking alone
> Obviously you also have mental imagery

I personally don't since I suffer from aphantasia. Perhaps I also suffer from not having an internal monologue?! I do think in words but not in complete sentences, it kind of happens much faster.

felooboolooomba··on Why thinking out loud with someone beats thinking alone
> I often construct full sentences in my head

I've only ever heard that associated with schizophrenia, but I don't even know if that's true or not.

felooboolooomba··on Show HN: Capacitor Alarm Clock
Sorry I'm late, the capacitor didn't blow.

Did anyone else smell capacitors when they watched the video? The brain does funny things.

felooboolooomba··on Has AI already killed self-help nonfiction books?
Yes, I'd be interested in seeing this compared to book sales in general.
