felipellrocha··on Why are Texas interchanges so tall?
Have people not lived in those places in the past?
felipellrocha··on Why are Texas interchanges so tall?
I love how you claim that there doesn’t exist, while at the same time mentioning a (very old) study that would imply an alternative exists so that such study can take place.

If you go to anywhere in Europe you will find plenty of places that prove the opposite.

felipellrocha··on Make your program slower with threads (2014)
It is, yeah. Which is why when you compile 99/100 times it just works. I don’t think people understand that this is one of Rust’s best features.
felipellrocha··on A ‘plague’ comes before the fall: lessons from Roman history
This is a huge mischaracterization. Most people in the roman empire were free. Yes, they had slaves, but their economy was not based in slavery. In fact, part of the reforms of Diocletian was to transform everyone into serfs, aka, proto-Feudalism. They walked backwards, not forward.
felipellrocha··on Brain biopsies on 'vulnerable' patients at Mt Sinai set off alarm bells at FDA
H... House...? Is that you?
felipellrocha··on A fourteen-day free trial ain’t gonna cut it
This makes sense to me. To some people, nothing will be sufficient outside of free. The demand curve predicts this. What is weird is that they're talking as if the problem was with every company trying to get paid (paying the bills? that's for the weak), instead of just simply recognizing that their purchasing power is relatively low.
felipellrocha··on Airlines required to refund passengers for canceled, delayed flights
...were they not required to do that before...?
felipellrocha··on The C++ Killers (Not You, Rust)
> The matter is, none of the languages, especially the so-called “C++ killers” give any real advantage over C++ in the modern world.

To you. There are pleeenty of people who want to write performant code in a safe manner.

felipellrocha··on Talc – A fast and flexible allocator for no_std and WebAssembly
I’d say it’s solved if you want a garbage collector. If you don’t, then there is plenty of room for innovation
felipellrocha··on It's time to break free from Corporate Agile
Heeeere we go
felipellrocha··on Databases and why their complexity is now unnecessary
I've heard so many people claim this, but I've never seen this put into practice in production, and at scale.

I don't even think that that proves that this cannot be done... And I've seen A LOT of people try. But, things invariably start to break down, and at this point I just think that the statement above is more wishy washy than anything, though I want to believe...

felipellrocha··on Did English ever have a formal version of "you"? (2011)
Funny enough, i never noticed that english feature because PT-BR is similar, we only use Voce instead of Tu.
felipellrocha··on MakeMake: Generate make files from C source code
It’s make all the way down
felipellrocha··on To the Board of Directors of OpenAI from former employees
I can believe this was written in earnest, but in the earnest of someone who doesn't really understand how to build product, or (which would be worse) someone with standards so high they would never release anything (a profile I have seen many times in my life). So, I can't really take it as valid criticism, since none of it reads as useful, or even valid criticism.
felipellrocha··on To the Board of Directors of OpenAI from former employees
He is receptive? Daaaaang... I'll see myself out...
felipellrocha··on I deeply regret my participation in the board's actions
When you watch Survivor (yes, the tv show), sometimes a player does a bad play, gets publicly caught, and has to go on a "I'm sorry" tour the next days. Came to mind after reading this tweet. He is not sorry for what he's done. He is sorry for getting caught.
felipellrocha··on OpenAI negotiations to reinstate Altman hit snag over board role
Who would invest in Ilya, though, when he very publicly tried to oust one of his oldest allies and failed? Trust can’t be built that way
felipellrocha··on OpenAI negotiations to reinstate Altman hit snag over board role
This is a terrible take. Ilya staying is the only thing that is basically guaranteed. Everything else isn’t. In addition, no one is irreplaceable.
felipellrocha··on Rocket v0.5: Stable, Async
Can’t blame them for trying
felipellrocha··on Hard-to-swallow truths they won't tell you about software engineer job
Came here to say the same thing, but a lot more angrily and a lot less eloquently. Thanks!
felipellrocha··on Why Golang instead of Rust to develop the Krater desktop app
> I think I might be the only one on the planet that tries to avoid tooling like this that's tied to a subscription

I think it depends on the app. If it's something that I use frequently I want a subscription. Otherwise, not. The reason for that, is that I look at subscriptions as something I have to be convinced to continuously pay every month. That gives me a lot of power to just disconnect at a later time, and this means that those apps tend to listen to user feedback more often than other apps.

felipellrocha··on Show HN: Ts-Chan – Go-Like Concurrency Primitives for TypeScript/JavaScript
Couldn’t you spin N workers and assign work to them?
felipellrocha··on Bevy 0.12
That is usually the case in Rust. One mostly deals with lifetimes in library code
felipellrocha··on Htmx, Rust and Shuttle: A New Rapid Prototyping Stack
So... Hsh?
felipellrocha··on John Riccitiello steps down as CEO of Unity
I don’t know how you are coming up with this take. Everyone that i know in the industry, big or small, calculated their fees with the faq open next to them so they wouldn’t make a mistake. Everyone would have owed more to Unity. A few owed more to Unity than they had in the bank.
felipellrocha··on Removing garbage collection from the Rust language (2013)
Take the browser. It gets an incredible amount of performance out people’s devices even though 99% of javascript is bound to a single thread. The way they accomplish that is via their asynchronous architecture. So, not always.
felipellrocha··on [dead]
That one will do it. I guess this is when i leave twitter
felipellrocha··on Ghostfolio: Open-source wealth management software
I would say ledger is more about knowing where your money is going, and ghostfolio is about making sure you minimize the risk of losing said money all at once after you hit a certain wealth threshold
felipellrocha··on Rust Cryptography Should Be Written in Rust
Rust has simd support, so maybe the latter is the issue.
felipellrocha··on [Ask HN] How many submissions have you accidentally flagged?
Oh, god. Way too many...!
