felbane··on I made an app that lets you split a file into horcruxes
This would be an absolutely perfect album name for an ambient music band called Digital Horcrux.
felbane··on Ten modern layouts in one line of CSS
I thought about trying tailwind and then saw "Step 1: install via npm"

I am so goddamn sick of having to download a giant mess of JavaScript modules just to use a tool to generate something that has nothing to do with nodejs or it's ecosystem.

It's at the point where I'm in full "crotchety old man" mode and forcing myself to build the entirety of my frontends in pure HTML5/ES6/CSS3.

It's quite liberating, actually.

felbane··on Five Buck Fatigue
We are already seeing this in its fledgling form. Sites like Masterclass, CuriosityStream, Nebula, etc are all trying to carve out their chunk of the "curated collection of content from independent creators" pie.

felbane··on You Are Not Google (2017)
Very much this. For most use cases, the out-of-the-box configuration is fine until you hit ridiculous scale, and it's not really all that complicated to keep a service running if you take time to read the docs.
felbane··on Warp – Mobile VPN
Well, one of the big differences is the fact that you don't have to provide any information to use 1.1.1.1 or Warp, just download the app. That means that at worst, the only personally-identifiable information they get is your IP and usage patterns.

If CloudFlare is bought by Comcast and they start doing Bad Guy Things™, then your exposed surface area is rather low.

felbane··on IBM purged ‘gray hairs’ and ‘old heads’ as it launched Millennial Corps: lawsuit
If I see one more blog post that has step 1 as "install composer/bower/npm", I might vomit.

When you need a finicky "dependency manager" just to get started writing something, you've already lost.

felbane··on Remove my password from lists so hackers won't be able to hack me
Perhaps an IDE/editor that autoformats python code?
