feider··on Science papers rarely cited in negative ways
Funny how this reminded me of the recent discussion about facebook reactions: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10355556 (with a difference that in this context people would seem to need, not wanting though, a dislike button).

Maybe a system providing private dislike function would yield a balanced solution?

feider··on IBM to Acquire the Weather Company
...and operates like North Korea when it comes to openness.
feider··on IBM to Acquire the Weather Company
Sorry for non value adding cynicism, but when has a big corp fixed any industry? Especially IBM? Sure, more competition is welcome, but I would not get my hopes up.
feider··on Vue.js 1.0.0
I'm not disagreeing, but when I hear "..., but React has taken us into the future." - is it just me or does this sound a bit too pompous?
feider··on All the UML you need to know
I think this is the real problem with UML. It first kinda seems to work when project is managed with waterfall-style, but when actual development is done iteratively (when is it not?) it just adds confusion or work either by providing out-of-date spec or introducing more stuff to keep in sync.

Could we just agree that /P symbolizes a downward thumb. No need for the dislike button.
feider··on Facebook Reactions
Why should it not be possible simply by clicking?
feider··on Google’s $6B Miscalculation on the EU
Russia does not have political protections? http://www.reuters.com/video/2015/08/06/russia-destroys-seve...
feider··on Finland’s new plan to change school means an end to subjects
One thing that almost never get mentioned is role of pre-school education and how it is drastically different in Finland.

Becoming preschool teacher in Finland requires a bachelor degree in "varhaiskasvatus" (that roughly translates to early parenting, which is an academic subject). I don't know what qualifications are required in US, but in many other European countries the bar of becoming preschool teacher is much lower.

feider··on React Tips and Best Practices
I'm not 100% sure what you mean by rule engines.

I tried to use a FSM for a SPA that was developed with Backbone.js. First it was really useful, but it was really shitty to maintain(expanding etc), though that maybe was fault of implementation. Still it is interesting idea, that I might want to try again.

feider··on Programmer proverbs
That applies also to engineering in some degree...
feider··on Spooky Alignment of Quasars Across Billions of Light-years
what? Can I have this translated "for dummies" also?
feider··on Show HN: StackShare – discover and discuss software stacks
For other than startups, this provides nice gallery of idiocy:

"Look, this is how many external Saas-dependencies we have and we have no control over our service."

Just saying, because it is one thing to use open source and totally different thing to rely on 3rd party services.

feider··on Broadsheet: Create Stylish Immersive Pages
thanks for the tip!
feider··on Broadsheet: Create Stylish Immersive Pages
Cool, but: I dont want to be the product. Give me a price or FOSS it - otherwise GTFO.
feider··on This POODLE bites: exploiting the SSL 3.0 fallback
thank you for the clarification
feider··on This POODLE bites: exploiting the SSL 3.0 fallback
This text seems to contain interesting information. Could somebody (who is familiar with this jargon) translate it to plain english? thanks.
feider··on Ericsson open-sources OpenWebRTC, rival to Google’s WebRTC implementation
code.google.com - ugh why can't google admit defeat and start using github?
feider··on Visualising data structures and algorithms through animation
slow hosting (from singapore?) just killed the possible experience.
feider··on Calling All Hackers: Help Us Build an Open Wireless Router
Good idea, selling routers with this firmware would be beneficial to router manufacturer(s) as they get a new marketing tool ( Open Wireless Compatible TM -mark), which would skyrocket market adoption. That to happen needs brand value, so lets hope this project catches on.
feider··on Lisp CPU
Just let us know when you have writen some tutorials - Im waiting :)
feider··on WebIDE lands in Firefox Nightly
True enough: bundling IDE with browser does not solve the problem, but it certainly lowers the bar for beginners to start programming.
feider··on Facebook was down
there is a bug in your logic. Correct operator is "or".
feider··on Ukraine Mobilizes After Putin's 'Declaration of War'
Something is already happened. "Nothing will happen" -mantra does not add any value to analysis. Russia has reacted very unpredictable so far and outcomes might be far from what you describe. Ukraine is also more than mere economical issue to EU. In these kind of situations politics comes before business, not the other way around.
feider··on Javascript patterns
Massive use of unclear 'it' reference in this text. Funny how it reminds me js..
