fblp··on xAI joins SpaceX
Great comment on hardware and maintenance costs, and in comparison Elon wrote "My estimate is that within 2 to 3 years, the lowest cost way to generate AI compute will be in space." It's a pity this reads like the entire acquisition of xAi is based on "Elon's napkin math" (maybe he checked it with Grok)
fblp··on Apple to soon take up to 30% cut from all Patreon creators in iOS app
This is also a political issue. The administration could have ftc investigate this under anti-trust, and the government could also pass tighter laws preventing this. But this current administration is likely too friendly to big corporate interests.
fblp··on “Captain Gains” on Capitol Hill
yep also curious about this!
fblp··on AI CEO – Replace your boss before they replace you
lol this also appears to be satire?
fblp··on The New Brutality of OpenAI
I wonder how much their lawyers are using AI to inform their legal tactics: "Please generate an exhaustive subpoena that will help us defend against this claim"

fblp··on Top UN legal investigators conclude Israel is guilty of genocide in Gaza
I'd find this is one of the safer and more civil places to discuss these kind of topics.

And I feel like less than 1% of front page topics are political, and you're certainly not obliged to open them... yet somehow this made it "goodbye" for you?

fblp··on US Visa Applications Must Be Submitted from Country of Residence or Nationality
In practice, this is not what occurred. Many people had appointments canceled admist the confusion.
fblp··on US Visa Applications Must Be Submitted from Country of Residence or Nationality
Also. "Effective immediately". Too bad for the tens of thousands of people who would be in legitimate process for a visa outside their country home country right now. This administrations arrogance and urgency is more important.
fblp··on Six months into tariffs, businesses have no idea how to price anything
There was the pre-existing constitutional authority that congress had to regulate trade, and that was only supposed to be usurped by the president in limited circumstances...

Hmm I don't think use whilst driving should be the first thing they should point market.
fblp··on Google admits anti-competitive conduct involving Google Search in Australia
Actually, Google has faced major antitrust enforcement globally for similar conduct:

EU: Already fined Google €8+ billion across multiple cases, including specifically for Android pre-installation requirements. Just issued new violations under the Digital Markets Act.

US: Federal judge ruled in Aug 2024 that Google illegally maintained search monopoly through exclusive default agreements including on mobile. DOJ seeking various remedies including divesting Chrome. This case is still in progress.

fblp··on Freight rail fueled a new luxury overnight train startup
There's another variation of this I'd like to see. A train you can work on during the day. With a private desk space with monitor etc where you could do zoom calls. Wouldn't need sleeping space.

These would be especially good for 3-4hr trips.

fblp··on Cockatoos have learned to operate drinking fountains in Australia
Given the article says this has spread amongst populations I'm suprised there's only one video on the internet of them doing this: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/video/2025/jun/04/su...

This is also an unconventional drinking fountain.

fblp··on Claude 4
I wish they would increase the context window or better handle it when the prompt gets too long. Currently users get "prompt is too long" warnings suddenly which makes it a frustrating model to work with for long conversations, writing etc.

Other tools may drop some prior context, or use RAG to help but they don't force you to start a new chat without warning.

fblp··on Uber to introduce fixed-route shuttles in major US cities
In Australia it's not unusual for taxis to be allowed to use bus lanes, and a portion of taxi fees go to the state. They can also charge Uber a fee to use the bus lane so the state gets more revenue than before for the same asset.
