Afaik, it was undergoing incredible mismanagement, a series of mechanical faults and poorly maintained systems. It meant that its air defense was down or severely limited, and their communications systems busted, they had to choose between communications with the crew or command. Once the ship was spotted, it couldnt defend against the missles and after the impact the crew could not communicate to address it.
All that from memory, im sure i got some details wrong but what a mess.
Cant exactly remember the phrasing or terminology but worth nothing
So far its been good and an improvement, thanks to md im taking great notes fast and efficiently and im putting more thought into connections. But all the videos and posts claiming its changed their lives or something is a bit much. I cant imagine it being that much more useful outside of school.
On a side note, any other useful programs/techniques feel free to share.
Kind of came out of nowhere for me, I heard about the security concerns but didnt think they were being taken that seriously.
Either way very excited.
Rough roadmap linked here https://www.kerbalspaceprogram.com/games-kerbal-space-progra...
People looking to get rich quick write (or pay sweatshops to write) very low effort, poorly researched books about obscure topics. They put them on amazon, maybe make some money, then repeat. The video explores one of those buyable programs to get you involved in all of that.
Seems like chatGPT is being used as the next tool in this process
Im trying to put together a small project using a raspberry pi and figured the subreddit would be a good place to start. I couldnt find good recent answers so I make a short post, what pi would best handle quality video streaming, best ways to go about it ect. Deleted because I was supposed to ask it in a specific thread. Ok sure whatever. So I ask that question in the proper QnA thread and only response I get plainly and unhelpfully says to look at an faq question which dosent answer my question at all. I feel like if your going to have and run a community because your passionate about something, and offer help about that thing, you could probably do better than leading me down the "your question is to generic/easy for me to bother" like an automated help line.
SO feels like that to me, you need to go in with a "worthy" question to get any kind of help and not just stomped down
Especially now that things like chatGPT seem to write coding tutorials pretty easy (with less bloat than the ones I find on google)
Smaller indie studio scanned huge parts of Chernobyl and perfectly recreated it for thier game.
I havent played it, but interesting stuff.
I break up periods of work by checking my phone, scrolling a forum, or working out/playing a game for bigger breaks. If I just sprint it out, i start to lose focus and get distracted far easier either way.
The real help for me is having a dedicated study space and if possible, set time frame outside your control. Im a college student so I frequently head to the library in long breaks between classes and that is my allocated study time/place. It gets you in the mindset and lets you get started on things right away.
Music is also big for me, but it hurts most people. Bossa nova always fits the mood though.
Ive mentioned it before but their mobile design sucks. I use it a lot in my car, so usually ill keep the playback screen open amd just swipe when I need to change songs, simple and probably safe. But if I swipe ever so slightly upward, it opens the lyrics function, so I have to look down, see what happened, swipe, then get back to driving. I get im not using it the way it is "supposed" to be used, but its an akward design choice anyways. When are the lyrics that on the fly important, and even when im looking at the screen I still mess it up.
That and the issues ive been having with the desktop app. Maybe its just my hardware but it never seems to just open om the first try, I usually have to close, then reopen it.
I’m getting back into mountain biking after my surgery, and after an hour or two into my latest ride, if found myself spacing out a lot and letting that chatter take over. Not paying attention during a slow, straight ride I caught my wheel on a root and fell forward over the bike, not fun. I found it much easier to slip into that state while I was exhausted though.
I feel exactly the same as you describe, unless im trying to stay focused, taking in something new every once in a while or making choices, I tend to space out completely.
From my experience it’s got a great community, thousands of players working toward the same goal, participating in little excursions, fighting the front lines, supporting the bases ect.
For those who are unfamiliar, foxhole is a grand scale mmo war game where two sides fight over a giant map over the course of a few weeks. There’s extensive player led logistics lines, massive front lines, and every battle, base, and item are all made by players. It’s a good time
The foxhole community built a little replica of the game map, and over the course of place fought over it much like the actual game. If you check the Timelapse you can see both sides trying to push into the other territories.
And it found itself caught in a bunch of big events, raids, voids, ect. But the community rebuilt and resumed fighting incredibly quick, which seems pretty in character lol.
Leave it to the foxhole players to fight over even faker land
Ive recently had ACL surgery, and you essentially have to learn how to walk all over again, not to mention the pain and how little weight you can put onto it at first. In order to properly walk and run again, I used a treadmill with essentially a large bag on it which inflated, lifting you slightly. This put less weight on your legs, allowing you to walk and run with proper form and speed up recovery, it was crucial for me learning to run again. (It was an AlterG device btw)
So this device can serve a similar purpose, it is addressing how people walk instead of general mobility. As the article states, its used on a treadmill, and it seems to only be trying to get these people walking
However I understand your perspective, and sympathize. My mom has MS and has many of the same fears. We have found some ways to work around it. Maybe its just my dad being crafty, but some simple bars near ramps/high risk areas have seemed to help.

Was I “cheating”? Kinda, but that’s not the point. This device can help patients with low mobility. The article lays out both how it works and its potential use case.
I would imagine many jobs require handling somewhat sensitive information, and at that point I could probably reassess. Regardless I think there are better ways to go about security than anti virus programs, like being mindful of what you click on, proper firewall setups, ect. But I’m new to all that so what do I know
The grading discussed in the article probably couldn’t apply to stem classes or something with a definitive right or wrong answer, but giving less focus on raw number grades in more creative classes can push kids in the right direction. I heard somewhere that kids are increasingly putting less creativity and energy into assignments because they are concerned with hitting the teachers exact expectations, and I think I see that in my own experiences.
I dont have much critical information or useful things on my computer so security is not my top priority. I found most anti virus just gets in the way
Windows defender does an alright job, and dosent get in the way. As long as your smart about where you go and what you download I would say your probably ok, depending on how critical your security is.
“The worst part of this trend to me is how many games sacrifice their identity to fit the mold that is now most profitable, it feels so soulless. This is all from my own experience/memory.
Every game needs live service, seasons, and a battle pass. While I appreciate that it can keep the game fresh and evolving over time, I think a lot of times its harmful. Sometimes a relatively simple game is blown out of proportion over time and id almost rather a stagnant game. Furthermore, gameplay can suffer too. In my opinion R6 siege started really strong, but has gone downhill recently, most obviously in operator design. Real power creep is sometimes an issue as well, somewhat recently I remember there were one or two operators added that felt like almost direct upgrades to base game ones. In its case, both the art style and operator design suffered from being stretched out for so long. Or RDR2, who sells most of the content through their premium currency and whose movement between the single player and online is so drastically different that fights online look like smash bros melee matches with frantic strafing and rolling. Compare this to titanfall 2’s design, which has remained stagnant (because it was killed a long time ago), but incredibly successful maintaining a large player base to this day.
Cod and pubg have sacrificed their art style and aesthetic, MW went from “realistic” tactical characters to jigsaw puppets and neon, out of place outfits. It’s like power creep, but for ridiculousness, skins have to get crazier and crazier because sometimes it keeps people buying them because its funny. It fit in fortnite because it was cartoonish and ridiculous from the beginning, but through MW and CW lifespan you can see the art style gradually decay. These game aren’t really meant to be taken seriously, but it always kinda put me off. Not necessarily making an argument about my taste, but rather how the games stray more and more from their original vision, driven by micro transactions. Battlefield has thrown out their traditional classes for specialists following in r6 and other hero shooters footsteps, part of me always kinda felt like it was to sell skins for each specialist, but I might be wrong here.
This isnt the biggest deal, especially not within the games industry, but frustrating to see innovation slowly be stamped back into the mold. There are many games that hold true to their visions or fill these voids especially in the indie scene but the state of AAA gaming and how it molds to the market is a little disappointing to me.”
Bad automated system and often less than helpful employees, all while I’m already frustrated over my internet.
I was referring to the more meaningless actions that don't effect the Russian government or military to any significant degree, to attempt to upset the people and encourage them to speak out.
Essentially, this someone was working at a homeless community shelter, and often found the bathroom completely destroyed. Paper everywhere, missing the toilet, intentional destruction and trying to make it as messy as possible. Every time they would clean it it would just get trashed once again
They had a theory that being trapped in that kind of situation gives them so little control that their brain wanted to take control over something however it can, which lead to the bathroom situations. They related this to “cancel culture”, needing to call out people for the littlest things, or the loss of direction in social justice, but I find it applies to a lot more than that.
My device is freaking out rn, cant pull up a link, but if you search for “the trashed bathroom thread” you should be able to find it.
Maybe got it?: https://twitter.com/tercicatrix/status/1376210092492791809?l...
All of these companies shutting down in Russia, people pressuring others to take a stand or shut down their services, upset the population. On HN I remember the namecheap thing and the service that allows westerners to call random Russians and inform them. On paper these seem like solid moves, but I cant help but feel like its only harming the citizens, and potentially irresponsible in a place where someone faces consequences for speaking out. I dont think anyone is going to risk their lives and take notable action because they need to find another service for their website, or some random foreigner telling them their government is lying. Of course these issues are more complicated, and taking these actions isnt a bad thing necessarily, namecheap has offices in Ukraine so they are going to take it personally, but there have been many cases where the company does it out of nowhere. These actions are inconveniencing the population, and when taken to the extreme like with peacenotwar, potentially very harmful. And I dont know if its doing much else. Yet too many people are acting like inaction is unacceptable.
I understand, you feel powerless in situations like these, but that shouldn’t stand in the way of making smart decisions. The need to do something has been pressuring people to take actions without considering the actual consequences vs the intent.
