fastily··on Ask HN: Share a shell script you like
I have quite a few, my personal collection of shell scripts: https://github.com/fastily/autobots

I also curate a shell command cheatsheet: https://github.com/fastily/cheatsheet

fastily··on Netflix Password Sharing Crackdown Works, U.S. Subscriber Numbers Soar
This seems (to me at least) like it would be an unpopular move. However, I wonder if this is one of those situations where HN is an opinionated echo chamber, and where the average person would be totally okay with this
fastily··on Reddit CEO doubles down on attack on Apollo developer in drama-filled AMA
A lot of community run websites are like this. On Wikipedia, ~200 volunteers do 80% of the admin/moderation work. And yes, it’s totally unsustainable.
fastily··on Severance payments at Wikimedia Foundation
I’ve been an editor on Wikipedia for nearly 15 years. I reckon I’ve easily contributed tens of thousands of dollars worth of value during this time. To be clear, I don’t expect/want any compensation (I firmly believe in the free knowledge for all mission), but I’d be lying if I said it doesn’t sting to see others profit handsomely off of my hard work.
fastily··on Heroku will phase out their free tier
ah, that's unfortunate. I've been using this to host toy projects that don't (and probably never will) bring in any income. Does anyone know of a similar service with a free tier?
fastily··on Ask HN: Can I see your scripts?

fastily··on Ask HN: Can I see your cheatsheet?

fastily··on Ask HN: Why can't I send faxes from my phone?
It doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. I've written a simple web app that wraps Twilio's fax capabilities.

The whole thing is designed to run on a raspberry pi. The setup costs $1 a month (for the twilio number) and a couple cents per page.

fastily··on Infiltrating Python’s Software Supply Chain
This really deserves more attention. As an oss contributor myself, I’ve noticed that almost no one actually reviews your source code, often choosing to blindly trust libraries simply because they’re available via the language’s package manager.
fastily··on The Art of Dying
Would you rather live at the bottom of the ocean?
fastily··on The Art of Dying
Not on this planet no, but the universe is a huge place. Space is the obvious next frontier.

Now try it with a cat who sheds a lot, has mild dandruff, and likes to sit on your lap while you work
fastily··on Ask HN: What are you all using to automate desktop setup and config?
I do this pretty frequently, and I've written quite a few bash scripts to rebuild my preferred environments for my Mac, Ubuntu boxes, raspberry pis, etc.

It's open source too: https://github.com/fastily/autobots
