farseer··on AMD and Sony's PS6 chipset aims to rethink the current graphics pipeline
The entire Switch 1 game library is free to play on emulators. They probably put a custom accelerator to prevent reverse engineering. A consequence of using weaker spec parts than their competitors.
farseer··on Ask HN: Great Firewall in Iran?
Censorship may not be as severe as China but the Iranian government is very paranoid these days due to security breaches in the recent war. Some of those breaches were hilarious Tbh and reflected badly on the regime. Its best not to be caught with your pants down while using a VPN illegally. There is not telling what they are up to in their extreme paranoia.
farseer··on Federal Shutdown Means More Grants Won't Be Reviewed This Cycle
Well it is run by one tyrannical party if not a single tyrant. Maybe that is the model we are all going towards.
farseer··on Ask HN: Why does every website ask me to accept cookies?
Has any website owner ever been sued for using cookies without consent? Yes it seems like madness and utter stupidity.
farseer··on Ask HN: Last time you needed a web analytics answer (real steps, not opinions)
Google Analytics works well, no pain point which will make me switch. That being said, the interface, hierarchy of properties and the messy transition from GA3 to GA4 left a lot to be desired.
farseer··on AI is a bubble, just admit it
>>We could not verify the name of the person who describes themselves as 'GenAI principal architect at Alphabet' and therefore we cannot 100% trust their claims.

Here is a counter claim (not study): https://cyfuture.cloud/kb/gpu/what-is-the-failure-rate-of-th...

farseer··on AI is a bubble, just admit it
Chips are unlike cars and there is very little wear and tear. If depreciation of Chips and subsequent losses is your criteria of how this bubble will burst, you may be in for a rude awakening. With Moor's law already finished, the Chips can be used for at least a decade or more even with lower efficiency and more power usage.
farseer··on Almost ready to launch my SaaS – but one feature is holding me back badly
This is just capital controls. A common problem in most 3rd world countries. Unfortunately bypassing them requires a special relationship with a local bank or financial institution which maybe able to give you instant transfer outwards via prior understanding. But they will probably demand some foreign exchange as collateral. If it makes you feel any better, I don't think you can launch such a service even in China.
farseer··on Why haven't local-first apps become popular?
They were popular until the internet was invented.
farseer··on Microsoft memo advises H1B employees to return immediately if currently abroad
The big question mark is if this fee would apply to hundreds of thousands of existing H1B visa holders when they need an extension/renewal?
farseer··on Microsoft has urged its employees on H-1B and H-4 visas to return immediately
Check for charter jets, you may be able to jet pool.
farseer··on U.S. investors, Trump close in on TikTok deal with China
That is one of the prime reasons congress banned TikTok.
farseer··on Lost $300 due to an API key leak from "vibe coding" – Learn from my mistake
If Google sent you an alert, laud them and demand your $300 back?
farseer··on Ask HN: Looking for headless CMS recommendation
Its just a website to post community events, don't think any plugins would be required.
farseer··on Show HN: SwiftAI – open-source library to easily build LLM features on iOS/macOS
IBM and Apple are company names, which means the intent to mislead can play a role during legal proceedings. Compared to banning the use of "Swift" in any phrase or sentence by any future company for the foreseeable future.
farseer··on Show HN: SwiftAI – open-source library to easily build LLM features on iOS/macOS
What if I make a SwiftDelivery app? Would that also get me sued?
farseer··on Show HN: Tool that helps you find domains for your idea
Your long domain is giving bad vibes on the kind of domains you would recommend. If you can't find a good domain yourself, what expectation do we have as customers?
farseer··on Ask HN: If technology is so good for the world, why are we becoming less happy?
Less happy compared to some earlier time period, but which one is the question. The 1950's, 1960's perhaps when single income was enough to afford a middle class life style? Likely less happy than our boomer parents. But are we less happy when compared to the gilded age when workers toiled 12 hours daily? Definitely not.

The answer lies not only in technology/social media but as other commentators have pointed out, but perhaps in inflation and cost of living crisis. Family breakdown due to one income not being sufficient could be a major factor.

farseer··on Ask HN: What problem would you solve with unlimited resources? (August 2025)
Heart disease cure Cancer cure Ageing cure Fusion research Designing social constructs for age of AI including UBI
farseer··on Open hardware desktop 3D printing is dead?
American industry also copied plenty from Britain and Germany during its industrialization in 19th century. Patents didn't really apply to foreign IP.
farseer··on Ask HN: Has anyone built anything useful using AI?
On HN, AI has diluted the hype around bitcoin so that is a net positive.
farseer··on South Korea's military has shrunk by 20% in six years as male population drops
After reaching peak prosperity, both Korea and Japan have decided to evaporate into oblivion. Japan grudgingly allows in a few Filipino and Vietnamese, so there is that.
farseer··on Ask HN: Why every AI company is building a browser?
Same reason as why Google built theirs.
farseer··on Ask HN: What's your biggest success–or failure–using AI?
Failure: Wanted to automate a workflow. Couldn't get AI to extract information from 500 word text and format it into a table. This was done via API and I had specified about 10 clear rules. Tweaking the prompt/rules would solve the bugs but introduce new ones. The errors were random and did not repeat in multiple trials. Model used was OpenAI GPT4o, however to be fair Google Gemini fared much worse.
farseer··on Ask HN: Why do so many developers dislike C when I find it inspiring?
Its not about disliking C. If I have to build an MVP quickly, I need a higher level language to do some of the heavy lifting for me. Memory management or implementing thread safety is not something I wish to do everyday. Doing so would not pay my bills.
farseer··on Show HN: A high-altitude low-power flight computer for high-altitude balloons
What a meek first kill. The F-22 is meant to attack swarms of Chinese fighters over the South China Sea. One day it will.
farseer··on Is there a place on the internet that is appropriate for talking about politics?
You can say practically say anything on Reddit in my experience. You just have to phrase it politely enough, and that is an art you need to learn.
farseer··on How big is carpooling market?
Carpool is perhaps the only means of commute that offers no timing flexibility. Unlike public transport or driving/cycling alone. I would think, its a rather small market preferred by people with shift jobs or state/federal employees who don't can't stay a minute below or above their office hours.
farseer··on Vitamin C Boosts Epidermal Growth via DNA Demethylation
Vitamin C supplements and cancer risk is an active area of research. Unless there is a genuine deficiency, I would stay away from supplements just to look pretty until there is more clarity.
farseer··on Ask HN: How much would you pay to solve the largest problem you face?
He prolly wants someone younger, hence the difficulty. :)
