faldore··on BitNet: 100B Param 1-Bit model for local CPUs
Why did you call it a 100b parameter model? it is not 100b parameters. they published a 1b parameter and a 2b parameter model.

Furthermore, it was published 11 months ago, it's not a new release.

It's lovely to see active development on Box2D. Thank you for your efforts.
faldore··on Marko: An HTML-Based Language
Speaking as a former eBay engineer.

The criticism is that it isn't React, and that nobody uses it but eBay.

There's nothing really wrong with it other than that there's no reason for it to exist when other frameworks work fine and have community traction. There's nothing special about eBay that requires it's own special UI framework.

And when we hire contractors to do anything they won't touch Marko so we have to use React anyway on a lot of projects.

Just not an efficient way to spend the companys money creating and maintaining a superfluous framework nobody asked for.

faldore··on Shell script best practices, from a decade of scripting things
Perl is a great fit. awk, sed, grep, xargs. Expect, occasionally. Python is too fanatically anti-fp and with indentation. JavaScript is too janky.
faldore··on 5 Years of Pop _OS
I have used Pop_os for the last year; it has enough bugs and wasted enough of my time that I finally switched to Windows just to see if I can put up with it; I'll probably revert to Ubuntu in a few months. WSL2 makes windows more livable but it's still janky.

I'm a nerd but that doesn't mean I have time to mess with bugs.

faldore··on OpenAPI Generator allows generation of API client libraries from OpenAPI Specs
SOAP (and XSD) were amazingly expressive and capable. They just didn't do enough to balance verboseness, simplicity, and conciseness.

Amazing how much work and progress was lost when it was all thrown away for REST/JSON.

JSON Schema is great but never reached the level that XSD did.

I tried to generate nestjs and found I was better off writing my own code generator.

faldore··on The satellite imagery industry still has no idea what customers want
This seems like the kind of insight that is better monetized than preached - the value will not be perceived until there is a business success that derived from it.
faldore··on The United States Digital Corps
Federal employees and contractors are subject to regular and random urinalysis. Until marijuana is legalized at the federal level (which has been passed by the house but is not yet law) you could be terminated for marijuana.
faldore··on Return to Monkey Island, Coming 2022
It was really genius, classic moment, to make me give the ghost pirate a wedgie.

faldore··on Ask HN: Advice for finding an entry-level remote job?
I went this route. Once you are in QA it is extremely difficult to get out. Everybody views you as "a tester" no matter how good your development skills are. If you genuinely want to be in QA as your career, or if you are truly desperate for work and willing to spend the 5 years or so it will take for you to dig yourself out of QA, then do it. It worked for me. But if you really want to dev, do not take a QA job unless you really can't find a dev job.

faldore··on Amazon's Leadership Principles
This is silly. The pay is really good, we have nothing to complain about. And everyone is responsible for managing their own work life balance. If a team is pushing you too hard, find a team that you can handle. It's a big company. It can only get to you if you let it.
faldore··on Sikuli Script

faldore··on How currying leads to elegant, readable code
"Ok, here we go. Does code like this look at all familiar?"

No, because I use Array.prototype.filter(), Array.prototype.map(), and Array.prototype.reduce() to accomplish these things...
