fahrradflucht··on JavaScript is Eating the World
FWIW npm 5 comes with npx [0] which basically does similar things. If you run npx webpack it would use the local copy of webpack or even install one run it and discard it.

fahrradflucht··on TypeScript 2.3
My personal Gem in this release: Generic parameter defaults. [0] This makes altering a generic interface or a generic type alias in a non-breaking way much easier which is very powerfull in a large code base.

fahrradflucht··on Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person
This was posted to HN when it was new. (This is non-judgemental)

fahrradflucht··on Deutsche Telekom says 900k fixed-line customers suffer outages
"Based on the error pattern, we cannot exclude the possibility that the routers have been targeted by external parties with the result that they can no longer register on the network." [0]

fahrradflucht··on Facebook’s ad metric problem is becoming Zuckerberg’s headache
This assumes an even distribution of click fraud and wrong measurement along all advertisers and the ability to perfectly measure the ROI of your Facebook ads which is as strong (and in my opinion wrong) assumption to make...
fahrradflucht··on Facebook’s ad metric problem is becoming Zuckerberg’s headache
The thing is that ad ROI is super hard to measure for branding campaigns. Coca-Cola can't tell exactly what their Facebook ROI is and a lot of the people who buy ads for those types of companies have incentives to overrate the ROI of these ads, too (because thats basically the rating of their work).
fahrradflucht··on Scouts and guides provide ‘mental health boost for life’
Here in Germany it is the same. Being a scout/guide strongly correlates with high(er) parental income, high(er) education and having no migratory background.

(This is not just anecdotal but are findings that the RDP (Ring of German scout organizations) made a couple years ago.)

fahrradflucht··on Visual Studio Code 1.7.1
In Swiss the day just ended. (The vscode team is partly located there)
fahrradflucht··on Ask HN: How to become a vegan?
So where does your B12 come from?
fahrradflucht··on Google discloses Windows vulnerability just 10 days after reporting it to MSFT
I think the notion in the article that it's the same or even worse this time because the exploit already is found to be exploited in the wild kind of strange. Isn't it far worse to disclose an unknown 0-day publicly then disclosing something that gets exploited already anyway?
fahrradflucht··on Is Your Site Leaking Password Reset Links?
>Once a reset link has been clicked, it should be immediately invalidated.

I'm not sure about this... Couldn't this produce some unexpected reset failures in cases of browsers preloading links in webmail clients?

fahrradflucht··on The State of JavaScript – Survey results
I don't remember the phrasing of the question but it could very well be that a lot of the cssnext answers use PostCSS as well...

That doesn't mean that it has huge usage anyway though.

fahrradflucht··on A collection of links that cover what happened during ElixirConf 2016
If I wait for recordings on Confreaks I just create an IFTTT recipe to email me or give me an android notification if the RSS feed gets filled up.
fahrradflucht··on In defence of Douglas Crockford
I don't have a clear opinion on the Crockford discussion but this post would be more convincing if it didn't put the lambda conf issue into the mix. I hope for Douglas Crockford that he doesn't want to get compared with Curtis Yarvin...
fahrradflucht··on DDoS protection
But whats their policy on DDoS? Since this is the topic you are posting this on just saying Hetzner "feels cheap" doesn't make that any less important.
fahrradflucht··on 43M passwords hacked in Last.fm breach
Wow it's 2016 and Last.fm still isn't on HTTPS for anything other then login. And the "new frontend" is in beta for around a year IIRC...
fahrradflucht··on Blazing Fast HTML: Elm vs. React vs. Angular vs. Ember
Whats the problem with the docs? I mean docs can always be improved but I think the Guide is okay and the package docs are fine...
fahrradflucht··on GNU.org down
Better the people read it here and maybe click once then people trying emacs elpa updates 10x before they realize the GNU.org is down I guess ;)
fahrradflucht··on Huge no. of files for Angular 2
Maybe, but it's not like there is no way of solving that issue.

It's just that this problem can't be solved entirely by npm. Node has to make changes to it's module loader as well.

fahrradflucht··on Caddy 0.9 Released with All New Core
I use Caddy on CentOS for quite a while. There is a Repo on Copr that let's you install it minimal or with plug-ins and it works just you would expect.
fahrradflucht··on Airtel is sniffing and censoring CloudFlare’s traffic in India
Ah so the traffic between piratebay and CloudFlare gets routed through Airtel. Thanks for pointing that out.
fahrradflucht··on Gimp 2.9.4 Released
I think such a big revamp of the app would have been an ideal moment to finally change the name to something less disabled hostile.
fahrradflucht··on Airtel is sniffing and censoring CloudFlare’s traffic in India

fahrradflucht··on Corrode: C to Rust translator written in Haskell
I find the name creative, kind of funny and all in all very good.
fahrradflucht··on Reports of cancellation of AdSense accounts
Isn't it a bit surprising that a company like Google can't give any helpful support for such an issue just because there is a holiday in the US? I mean AddSense has customers all around the globe...
fahrradflucht··on David Cameron announces resignation
In my opinion, the most interesting thing he said in that speech is that he doesn't plan to trigger article 50 immediately.

That will be controversial in both, the EU and Britain I think.

fahrradflucht··on A Perl toolchain for building micro-services at scale

fahrradflucht··on Chrome 51 Arrives on Android, Officially Kills Off “Merge Tabs and Apps”
I was very disappointed as a first saw that change pop up in Chrome Dev for Android, but thought it was maybe a change of defaults and the option would get put in again before the release.

Now it's not in and I think thats very sad. It just degrades the open web in relation to native apps even more and the context switch between browser tabs and native apps is as big as it was years ago. Why don't keep the option?

I know progressive web apps that are added to the homescreen still have that functionality but the main idea of PWAs was that the move from a website becoming an app should be as seamless as possible...

fahrradflucht··on Third-Party Instagram Apps and Websites Cease to Work
I always thought that they would wait with this until they finally made an own iPad app, but that seems to be not they case.

Maybe it's because their mobile website is finally quite good, but looking at the Facebook Web Messenger story[1] I'm surprised they go that route.
