facialwipe··on What xAI's Grok build CLI sends to xAI: A wire-level analysis

facialwipe··on Underrated reasons to be thankful V
This whole thing reads strange. I’m not thankful for any of the presented reasons to be thankful.
facialwipe··on We're building a dystopia just to make people click on ads [video]
“Now all restaurants are Taco Bell.”
facialwipe··on Scopely to acquire Niantic games business for $3.85B
More Saudi blood money.
facialwipe··on Waymo drives through sinkhole in San Francisco during storm [video]
Imagine being an unsuspecting passenger in a Waymo as it goes straight into a pedestrian at full speed. That possibility alone gives me pause to ever use an FSD service.
facialwipe··on 3blue1brown YouTube Bitcoin video taken down as copyright violation
You have to think of YouTube and other platforms as a mechanism for distribution, not a source of truth.

So the source of truth is just some guy’s long tail GoDaddy-hosted blog?

facialwipe··on Zildjian, a 400-year-old cymbal-making company in Massachusetts
A (very) mildly interesting tidbit...

I used to do IT for a vendor that injection-molded low durometer plastic washers for Zildjian. They placed a single large PO annually.

99% of the population would identify these as 'rubber' washers. Nope, they're polyurethane.

facialwipe··on Orbit by Mozilla
It is unlikely the incoming DOJ will pursue a breakup of Alphabet.
facialwipe··on Tesla replaces laid-off U.S. workers with foreigners using visas pushed by Musk
If works needs to be done on site, why not move the company to India

It’s cheaper to transport Indian services than transport Indian goods.

facialwipe··on Orbit by Mozilla
During early smartphone era they spend most of the resources trying to write an OS

Most of Mozilla’s resources have always been spent on Firefox. There was never a cycle where most of Mozilla’s resources were spent on FirefoxOS.

But they need to figure out a way to generate revenue rather than relying on Google.

The percentage of revenue from Google has fallen every year since 2016. Mozilla Corporation had a 33% profit margin in 2022 (The latest data on Wikipedia).

It’s a fantastic business model.

facialwipe··on Rite Aid's 'Zombie' stores take over America
I’ve had a great customer service experience with Amazon Pharmacy, too.

Oddly enough, their non-insurance/Prime price is more affordable than my Bronze-level insurance plan.

facialwipe··on Rite Aid's 'Zombie' stores take over America
It also takes 7-10 days to get your script from Cost Plus.
facialwipe··on Rite Aid's 'Zombie' stores take over America
I’d recommend giving Amazon Pharmacy or their subsidiary, PillPack a gander to see if they stock your medication.
facialwipe··on CISA: Do not use SMS as a second factor for authentication [pdf]
If one were genuinely paranoid about privacy they could use this document as a list of services NOT to use.

I’m not sure I’d have a good rebuttal for “Why would I use anything the Feds recommend?”

facialwipe··on Argentina's economy exits recession in milestone for Javier Milei
Average monthly income for Argentines is a few hundred dollars a month. The largest private employer in Argentina is headquartered in Uruguay.

Argentina is essentially living a Hunger Games reality. An economy designed to solely benefit the capital. Everyone else exists to extract resources for the capital.

facialwipe··on PeerTube mobile app: discover videos while caring for your attention
At first I thought this was an app to discover content on YouTube. Nope, it’s a platform.
facialwipe··on Vulkan Video Now Enabled by Default for Radeon VCN2/VCN3 Hardware on Linux
or do you know what's likely holding it back

The lack of AMD GPUs in Android devices?

facialwipe··on Kyawthuite is so rare it's only ever been found once
It was a simple mistake. I typed “sq” instead of “cu” in bed after I woke up and fapped.
facialwipe··on Kyawthuite is so rare it's only ever been found once
According to Warren Buffet, all of the world’s mined gold would only form a 67 sq ft cube.
facialwipe··on Chinese Ship Suspected of Dragging Anchor 100 Miles to Cut Baltic Cables
The result of the cable cut was essentially meaningless. I doubt there was intent to cut these specific cables.

facialwipe··on Ask HN: What's something you're 100% certain will be around in next 10 years?

facialwipe··on AMD's CPU sales are miles better than Intel
Several new AM4 & AM5 X3D CPUs released this year.
facialwipe··on AMD's CPU sales are miles better than Intel
The Ryzen X3D CPUs are really the best value out there for gaming.
facialwipe··on Glyphosate: A low toxicity herbicide is the target of a disinformation campaign
Anyone remember Michael Clayton? Great film.
facialwipe··on IMG_0416
The article is mildly infuriating.

Between 2009 and 2012, Apple iPhones and iPod Touches included a feature called “Send to YouTube”

Proceeds to feature two videos from 2015.

facialwipe··on Starship's Sixth Flight Test
Democracy?
facialwipe··on Apple acquires Pixelmator
RIP Pixelmator.
facialwipe··on Show HN: I made a Bluesky video downloader that can download videos from Bluesky
Everyone connects to the Bluesky PDS (Personal Data Server) otherwise they won’t have anyone to interact with. Similar story on Mastodon.

Decentralized in protocol only. Not in practice.

facialwipe··on Gunter's Space Page
Gunter is very active on Twitter. Mostly anti Trump tweets.
facialwipe··on What Happens When Ozempic Takes over Your Town
I thought this article was never going to end. It’s essentially the same point repeated three times.
