facialwipe··on Drake Releases 100gb Data Dump
A mid-life crisis.
facialwipe··on The license does not indicate which Bible is to be used
Looks like it’s a few young nerds trying to put some positivity out in the world. Pretty admirable in today’s climate.

The author of the issue is clearly trolling.

facialwipe··on Chris Titus' Windows Debloat Tool
Sophia Script for Windows is the current actively developed debloat tool. Updated today.

facialwipe··on Copy and Paste context menu entries sometimes disabled when they should not be
I really don't get how people work, sometimes.

Same. I can’t fathom having a reaction like this to someone using a web browser that I didn’t.

facialwipe··on Copy and Paste context menu entries sometimes disabled when they should not be
I switched to Edge because of this bug.
facialwipe··on Private Equity–Backed Firm Bowlero Is Ruining Bowling
What happened to computing? Are we the only industry whose output quality seems to go backwards every year?

Enshittification is coming for everything.

facialwipe··on Tell HN: Domain migrated from Google to Squarespace went down after 1 month
The key takeaway here is don’t hesitate.
facialwipe··on Amazon Cloud Traffic Is Suffocating Fedora's Mirrors
It’s clearly either a large contract that would have been negotiated before any instances were spun up, or Amazon themselves.
facialwipe··on ICQ will stop working from June 26
Listening in Winamp to one of only a few dozen possible songs that I had carefully downloaded.

This reminded me of my Macintosh System 7 days. My CPU was not fast enough to decode MP3s so I convert them to WAVs but my 80MB HDD only had space for about two WAVs at any given time.

facialwipe··on I'm in love with my AI girlfriend GPT-4o will prove insatiable
Well that was a strange read.
facialwipe··on Tom Waits vs. Frito-Lay, Inc (2003)
“The large print giveth and the small print taketh away.” ―Tom Waits
facialwipe··on OpenAI didn’t copy Scarlett Johansson’s voice for ChatGPT, records show
@sama has done a good job at portraying himself as an elon/zuck hybrid visionary. he's either going to deliver on the agi promise or be the next @sbf_ftx. there's no in between.
facialwipe··on Bluesky adds direct messages
Jack Dorsey out, plaintext DMs in.

Slow clap for Bluesky.

facialwipe··on Daily marijuana use outpaces daily drinking in the US, a new study says
Turns out the proletariat needs more than a minimum wage to survive.
facialwipe··on ASML and TSMC Can Disable Chip Machines If China Invades Taiwan
I’m 41 and have been hoping for over a decade that I can get through my life before a conflict with China. Alas, I don’t think I’m going to be so lucky.
facialwipe··on Tesla FSD head to head against Mercedes Driver Assist on the same road [video]
Tesla has spent more billions on ML than any corporation in the world. I can’t wait to book my first FSD robotaxi ride at some point in the next decade.
facialwipe··on Canva has acquired Affinity in an effort to compete with Adobe
I enjoy Serif products but have always wondered how it would survive. Pixelmator stayed a family-run bootstrapped operation while Serif scaled a company in the EU around the Affinity Suite.
facialwipe··on Why it's so challenging to land upright on the moon
I’m a huge space nerd. It takes up most of my free time.

I have never once read about abort-to-orbit capability as a concept, let alone a requirement for Artemis HLS.

Here’s a 4 year old video detailing past abort systems and why Starship won’t have one: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v6lPMFgZU5Q

facialwipe··on How did the settlers of the Canary Islands survive a millennium of isolation?
Learning this makes North Sentinel island seem like a wild success story. It’s been continuously supporting a population with no outside help for at least a millennium.
facialwipe··on Bard is now Gemini, and we’re rolling out a mobile app and Gemini Advanced
During Project Gemini, it was pronounced it Gem-in-ee.

facialwipe··on Cannabis use linked to anxiety diagnoses, worsened anxiety disorders
Just to clarify, how did you typically consume cannabis?
facialwipe··on Netflix: Piracy is difficult to compete against and growing rapidly
It’s a few bucks like video rental shops back in the old days.

Of the top 10 in Apple’s current Top Movies Chart in the TV app, 3 cost $5.99 to rent while the other 7 are $19.99 to rent.

facialwipe··on Starlab commercial space station to launch on Starship
A Seattle company, Gravitics, is also building inhabitable space station modules designed specifically around Starship’s speculated payload volume.

facialwipe··on Pentagon moves to declassify some secret space programs and technologies
Riiight because a “high-mobility cubesat” (whatever that is) could ever intercept an orbiting X-37.
facialwipe··on Ask HN: Why did LinkedIn become what it is today?
Right. Establishing a newsroom and providing dm functionality is an apples-to-apples comparison in the context of a social networking website.

It’s totally normal for social networking websites to establish newsrooms and hire lots of journalists. Friendster, MySpace, Facebook… and now LinkedIn.

Sorry, Dad. /s

facialwipe··on Ask HN: Why did LinkedIn become what it is today?

facialwipe··on Ask HN: Why did LinkedIn become what it is today?
I’m not sure how many are employed at LinkedIn today, but at the end of 2019 there were 65 journalists at the company. This is clearly a strategy to get people to spend more time in the site.

facialwipe··on AzuraCast: A Simple, Self-Hosted Web Radio Management Suite
I agree completely. Listing to Art Bell as an adolescent likely factors into why I’m a skeptic today. I went deep down the rabbit hole in the early dial-up days thanks to Art’s inspiration.

I never found anything truly convincing.

facialwipe··on War of the workstations: How the lowest bidders shaped today's tech landscape
This ridiculous paragraph:

“Now Lisp and Smalltalk are just niche languages – but once, both of them were whole other universes. Full-stack systems, all live, all dynamic, all editable on the fly.

The closest thing we have today is probably JavaScript apps running in web browsers, and they are crippled little things by comparison.”

Why do I have the feeling that the Kia boys are about to become the Chevy boys…
