Sure, but there is no such range of IDs in America, is there? It seems like a choice from a set of various not-easily-and freely-obtainable-to-everyone IDs.
Did you really live through that whole Trump-era hate speech and harmful misinformation culture and not once stop to understand what that means? Did you do nothing more than repeat slogans without passing them through your human intellect first? I dare you to define those terms so that they mean anything other than "The enemy's tribe is bad because it's not the one I happened to fall into."
Italy is at 80% and they still see the need to ban unvaccinated people from places. New Zealand is planning to ban unvaccinated people form places after we reach 90% of over-12-year-olds. So even with a massive 80% vaccinated, the vaccine doesn't stop the spread. Maybe it would at 90%? 95%? Who knows.
In New Zealand, the unvaccinated are largely the indigenous Maori, not stereotypical anti-vaxxers.
The implication of that is that we should accept climate change, is that what you're saying? Deindustrialization would probably be worse than climate change so it's likely not an option. In case you want deindustrialization, can you estimate it consequences in terms of deaths caused or some other important metric so we can compare it to climate change?
As for how the hashing works, that's more an implementation detail, isn't it? How it finds the target is what the DHT tech does. But I have to say the home page and example was incredibly clear! For such an abstract thing, it was truly about as perfect at communicating what it is as I could imagine!
Sure. Not saying this case is harmful to animal welfare, but the idea of anything that seems immediately good being actually good, even a little bit, isn't generally true.
Unicode really wasn't practical at all back then. Unless your entire system end-to-end was built internally, you'd have to interact with some non-unicode software. There was also no agreement on a common UTF-8 encoding, and other unicode encodings were all broken anyway.
Names have been spoken and hand-written since forever yet somehow computers aren't good at that so we all tolerate converting them to printed-looking text. Nobody cares, it doesn't matter.
Perhaps there's some chip that has some functionality enabled by a logic input. The designer intended it to be off but KiCad tied it high or low or open to turn it on instead. That functionality might enable a serial interface or reading or writing some sensitive memory or whatever that might become a vulnerability.
It's not clear that many of these efforts are good at all. A classic example is feeding stray cats. That just increases the carrying capacity so you're creating more stray cats and even more will be hungry.
Exterminate cows to prevent cow suffering? Or farm them to maximize their population?
I'm confused how the client/local proxy finds the rest of the distributed hash table to do its lookup in. Are there some fixed conventional internet addresses it can start from or something?
Considering the entire content is aligned with a popular political ideology, it's clear that she's just using it as an argument for her ideology.
She even implied that a straw-man claim she attributed to science was wrong for no other reason that that it was the year 2017. The very first sentence is critical of the fact that people are trying to understand something scientific!
I'd say the biggest neglect was not being touched by his mother as a baby. That kind of invisible neglect of babies is perhaps the worst kind of child abuse. They have no memory of what happened or why they're screwed but they're emotionally damaged for life. They can't even get understanding from others by saying they were beaten or raped or whatever. It's seen by people as not "real" abuse or not even known at all by anyone except the parent.
> you should expect to see this regular grid disappear since their options for reaching a destination are no longer constrained to a single path along most of the route to their destination.
That's a post hoc rationalization. All those complicating factors can exist in 2D too. Are you predicting that the 2D hexagonal structure will also be lost in a 2D environment with odors/etc., and this conclusion about it being 2D vs 3D is false?
That's kind of how it already works with recommendation letters. The result of nobody wanting to say no is that every letter is positive but the number of adverbs chained together signals their true opinion of the candidate rather than the number of dollars.
But how is that less biased? That will still be biased one way or another (eg. more college students than gun licensees, or whatever) so regardless of whether they allow all of them or none of them or an arbitrary subset of them, it will still be biased and I don't think there's any objective set of acceptable IDs that isn't biased.
> Another is changing people's party affiliation, so they cannot vote in primaries.
Aren't the primary elections the business of the parties conducting them and not really part of the democratic process at all, but rather a way for parties to find their favorite candidate to put up for the real election? In that case, it doesn't matter for voting rights if a party excludes someone from their own election, does it?
> refuse to accept college IDs [...] more likely to vote for the "wrong" party
How is that different from accepting college IDs because students are more likely to vote for the "right" party? Seems like both options are biased one way or another.
Previous generations though it was nuclear war. I wonder what our grandkids will decide it's going to be. Probably something we couldn't even imagine being a disaster today.
Replacing bullshit jobs with UBI takes away many ways that important emotional needs are met. Feeling useful, important, part of something bigger, respected, etc. These are very important for quality of life.
Worth realizing that a lot of pre-internet systems like bureaucracies and phone networks were full of known and actively exploited vulnerabilities but they relied on obscurity and the law to discourage excessive exploitation so white-hat hacking didn't make sense.
Somebody who's been out of touch for the past 20 years could easily see responsible disclosure as the beginning of an extortion attempt. "I can access your data and I'll publish sensitive information about it in 30 days." sounds like it's about to be followed up with "...unless you send me a pile of money in unmarked bills".
China doesn't want to ban it, just some grumpy people. There's always some grumpy person who blames loud neighbors for their own life or sleep problems.
Parent's point seems like what they're doing here. Trading underage porn is illegal, as well as revenge porn in some places, etc. so they forbid that and allow legal porn. Seems like they really are doing "all legal things and no illegal things" more accurately, and it really is burdensome to everyone.
Remains to be seen or is already known to be impossible? All the carbon in fossil fuels originally came from the atmospheric CO2, didn't it? And it was never as hot as Venus. What are the steps we would need to take to make it as hot as Venus in any kind of physically possible scenario?
I think it's already slowed. We've stopped completely disregarding conservation and now it's a factor in any major works project that might disrupt the environment.
