explorigin··on Show HN: Capsule – Single-file web apps that save their data into SQLite
In preparation for the upcoming [Android lockdown](https://keepandroidopen.org/) I've started vibe-coding some PWAs for apps that I like so I can have a webby version of them with no ads and no Google/iOS lock-in. I like this, it feels like a good direction.
explorigin··on Qwen 3.8 27B available on Cerebras at 1500 tokens/s
Yep, dumber than Deepseek4 at 10x the price. Cool tech demo though.
explorigin··on IPFS Maintainers Winding Down
This. Haven't seen this in the news in years. A few years ago (2022?), they got some $x00 million in investment money. They already had IPFS/IPNS at that point so it was some deep push into Filecoin. But it felt odd at the time. Bitcoin was starting to jump the shark at that point and none of the smarter cryptos had truly found a market fit either.
explorigin··on 2026 Eclipse Webcams
Unfortunately, camera white balance seems to diminish the effect compared to actually being there. But it's something. Now imagine that the weather got 10 deg (F) colder, the birds are chirping because they think it's bedtime and your circadian rhythm is nagging you in the back of your head: "this ain't right"
explorigin··on What I love about Django
Django makes simple things easy and complex things hard. Django breaks the zen of Python with much "magic". I like DjangoORM but prefer FastAPI for the webby bits.
explorigin··on Ask HN: Anyone else tired of brands discontinuing your favorite everyday items?
Discontinuing a product breaks the cost-comparision chain. It makes it easier to increase prices or reduce quality without direct backlash. Releasing new products also makes for marketing announcements that work like advertisement (or is advertisement directly).

> CTO & Co-Founder, GovHawk.

Checks out. More legislation boosts your business.

explorigin··on Parental controls aren't for parents
Go type this into perplexity: "Are there any health studies about what exposure to pornography does to childhood development?"

Here's another good one: "Are there any health studies about what exposure to violence or horror does to childhood development?"

There is a reason that rating systems exist and that we shelter children from these things.

The pre-rebuttal that you posted "this was common in my childhood" is no indicator that this was a healthy behavior for you or the masses.

explorigin··on Show HN: Oh Yah – Routine management app I built for my sons
So many parental opinions on here. Not every kid is the same. Trying to apply blanket parental strategies speaks of ignorance. I have neurodivergent kids and this could be great for them.
explorigin··on The Amazon Kindle War Against Piracy
I bought some ebooks from other vendors to avoid lock-in and side-loaded them on my kindle. Last year, if Amazon sold one of these titles it would dissappear if I turned on wifi. I now have a kobo.
explorigin··on Meta Ray-Ban Display
True. It depends on the feature you're demoing...but determinism is a VERY DESIRABLE feature for giving demos.
explorigin··on KDE is now my favorite desktop
Standard desktop mode.
explorigin··on KDE is now my favorite desktop
I've been using my steamdeck as my personal computer for more than a year now. It's desktop mode is a polished KDE experience that anyone could use.
explorigin··on Meta Ray-Ban Display
I've done live demos of AI. Even with the same queries, I got a different answers than my 4 previous practice attempts. My demos keep me on my toes and I try to limit the scope much more now.

(I didn't have control over temperature settings.)

explorigin··on AI tooling must be disclosed for contributions
I suppose it depends if AI is writing the tests an documentation.
explorigin··on Linear sent me down a local-first rabbit hole
For me it was the lack of confirmation with the backend. When it was the next big thing, it sent changes to the backend without waiting for a response. This made the interface crazy fast but I just couldn't take the risk of the FE being out-of-sync with the backend. I hope they grew out of that model but I never took it serious for that one reason.
explorigin··on I taught my 3-year-old to read like a 9-year-old
People are different; that includes children. Some kids can advance in some areas faster than others. But to measure them all by the same ruler (by way of assumed potential) is dehumanizing. Love and raise your kid where they are.

explorigin··on Driverless semis have started running regular longhaul routes
Not electric, just driverless.
explorigin··on Don't force your kids to do math
Everybody is different. Some should be forced to learn and others not. Quit trying to measure fish on a tree climbing test.
explorigin··on The Steam Deck is software-freedom friendly

> I had been playing around with the idea of how to build the world's largest decentralized food production network

Years ago I worked on Farmforce that is basically this. In America we have centralized agriculture. Over the ocean, small-holder farmers in Africa provide lots of food to lots of markets. Keeping track of all of these farms, their herbicide and pesticide usage and weather-based yield projections is already a solved problem.
