exe34··on Claude's new system prompt doesn't want to reproduce song lyrics
Yeah once you have the lyrics, why would you waste time listening to the song? You might as well get chat gpt to summarise the lyrics into a few bullet points and save you the time of even reading them!
exe34··on Why are European countries moving their gold out of North America?
How many Swiss citizens have they detained in concentration camps and deported to places they've never been and have no connections?

It's cute that you think power is going to change hands in November. It'll be his reischtags fire. He's already planning to send ice to police the elections and only in places he's bound to win will people be voting.

You may not need react. If you want to make the smallest possible change to the dom to reduce latency, then make the smallest possible change to the dom. Choose solidjs. (Not a sponsored post).

Expensive heating but free computation then!
exe34··on Can AI design circuit boards yet?
I don't know about pcbs but i gave chat gpt a picture of my window to help design a mesh screen frame to hold the feline hostage in, and it gave a fairly convincing impression of understanding what was going on, although at one point it thought the window swung inwards (it's an outie).
exe34··on GPT-6 Astra
I liked the suggestion to create a second partition at the start - I hadn't thought of it myself and just gave up on the first 2gb.
exe34··on GPT-6 Astra
Nah, AIs will cheat their way through anything you let them do. If skipping half the drive will let it get that sweet RL reward, it will do it.

Chat gpt came up with it: https://chatgpt.com/share/6a9ae2c9-1910-83ed-9591-1b30f8834c...

I assume it hasn't had time to read my post yet.

For those who are as yet unaware that boot polish can be purchased cheaply in tins.

> The billionaires considered using special combination locks on the food supply that only they knew. Or making guards wear disciplinary collars of some kind in return for their survival. Or maybe building robots to serve as guards and workers – if that technology could be developed “in time”.

exe34··on GPT-6 Astra
Or you build bunkers and build robots to keep the riffraff out. Shock collars on the guards' necks.

I had a 600MHz/64MB/9GB laptop that came with Windows mistake edition. I managed to survive first year of uni on it by switching to Vector Linux, which was really fast compared to Windows. (Of course, it had issues playing sound from more than one source, this was oss days).

Then one day the hard drive appeared to die. I eventually realised the issue was located around the 1.5gb mark, so I recreated my Linux partitions after 2gb and it worked fine for the rest of the year.

exe34··on Google Antigravity TOS: 3rd party usage can get Google account suspended
I have an auto "checkout" every month and I download my data. I don't know if it's readable, I haven't checked, but it feels comforting. My email is also just a private name@domain that forwards to my Gmail. If I ever need to switch, it would be a simple update with my registrar.

(I'm aware domains can be stolen too, but I expect to have some leverage as I'm paying for that in the UK.)

exe34··on Google Antigravity TOS: 3rd party usage can get Google account suspended
It's actually why I will never use any of Google's paid services like compute or LLMs or storage. I will not risk my access to important services. "Free" Gmail and search is all I will use.
exe34··on My local model setup on an M4 Pro Mac Mini
Free heating in winter.
exe34··on Ask HN: Why were OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down?
I bet they had to implement that manually to make it look like they failed too!
exe34··on Creating Backup Storage Sucks
What solution do you use that syncs/backs up while the device is turned off? IME stuff?
exe34··on Saving money on Google Photos with Immich: Your own personal photo storage
I have Syncthing on my android phone, my laptop and my always-on nuc at home. There's a folder where I keep anything I want to backup.

exe34··on 'Idiocracy' Predicted All of This
We're not living in idiocracy yet. They knew they were stupid and gave control to the new guy. We're in the prequel, and we're still getting started.
exe34··on Atlas: A World Model for Spatial Intelligence
Amazing! Thanks for explaining!
exe34··on Dyson CameraJet electric toothbrush
I've had this issue a few times. Took it apart and soaked/scrubbed anything without a pcb or wires coming out of it, and it worked fine after. Eventually the filter on the motor crumbled into dust (not suitable for picking up the dust from sanding paint off indoor walls). I tried to get the right one from Dyson but I ended up just grabbing something that looked like a distant cousin of the right filter off eBay and cut it into the right shape. It stopped working again after a few months, I was going to do the cleansing ceremony again, but then I dropped it and it started working fine again.

Going on 13 years now I think.

exe34··on Atlas: A World Model for Spatial Intelligence
Any ideas if it keeps continuity - when you turn around, is the invented chair still there, or does everything shift like in a dream?
exe34··on NASA: Fill in a name, and you can have an exclusive coordinate in the universe
This reminds me of xkcd/865.
exe34··on AI-Written Code Is Still *Your* Code. Are You OK with That?
There are no true scotsmen.
exe34··on AI-written code is still your code
> The fact they aren't doing it singlehanded makes it way harder, not easier.

As N->large, fraction of time spent coordinating approaches infinity.

exe34··on AI-Written Code Is Still *Your* Code. Are You OK with That?
It's useful to you. I'd say take the win and let the haters quibble. I'm good enough at coding that I can use it as part of my day job, but I hate coding for the sake of coding. For me coding is a tool for solving problems, and now AI can sometimes help me solve problems I might not have had the motivation to persue. My scale is usually "a small application that helps me do X", not "I develop photoshop singlehandedly".
exe34··on AI-Written Code Is Still *Your* Code. Are You OK with That?
Sounds like you just don't like the phrase 'higher level'. To most people this is synonymous to 'powerful abstractions' and 'more ergonomic abstractions' in the sense that they allow us to think "at a higher level" - map instead of loop, objects instead of memory addresses and size, modules instead of gotos.
exe34··on Show HN: Prove your code produced your claims without making reviewers rerun it
It didn't sound very convincing. It doesn't really prove anything other than the author signed the report. Unless the auditing is running from a secure enclave/core that the user has no access to, it can't do what is claimed on the tin.
exe34··on Claude Session URL appended to commit messages and PR descriptions by default
Where can I see the list of everybody they stole IP from? Just saying "that guy stole it for me" isn't really giving credit to the real owners/creators.
exe34··on Why open source rocks – a new SM750 (Silicon Motion GPU) HDMI Driver
I'm assuming your gotcha is going to be "but that's not vibe-coding", but in case you're sincere, you might not have realised this yet: there's a whole range between writing every line by yourself and letting the slop machine create the entire thing. You can rely on your knowledge and understanding to guide it, to the point that it writes code that you would have written, but saves you an enormous amount of time and effort looking up things and creating/running small tests to figure out details. It's a tool, not a spell, so your pearl clutching is a few years out of date...
