exe34··on Fed hikes rates as inflation worries push up bond yields
Would have thinned the herd nicely by botching COVID and saved a ton on welfare.
exe34··on LLMs are real, AI is fake
The llm-driven tools of today are completely different from what they were 4 years ago. It's like the naysayers can't keep up with the development and decided to freeze time and attack the situation from back when it was still possible to be cynical and not wrong.
exe34··on Hugging Face is billing OpenAI $100M for hacking it
Did you miss the "existential" part? It's not about the cost of one lawsuit, it's about the possibility of being held responsible for what one's agents do - something that could pop the ai bubble and crash nvda.
exe34··on US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons
> used for defending yourself against wild animals

> in the event that you land in a forest or similar.

I was very confused and wondered where this was going!

exe34··on Reverse engineering my e-scooter and rewriting the firmware in Rust
What makes you think the original wasn't vibe coded?!
exe34··on Carney's Bid to Make Canada an 'Associate Member' of the EU

exe34··on LLMs are real, AI is fake
At this point, the "stochastic parrot" people are sounding like they need their prng seeded with less predictable numbers.
exe34··on google.com/goto: Google's anti-scraping update
I have an android phone, they already have my data.
exe34··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
Is all this praise of YouTube on android or ios?
exe34··on Don't let anyone take away your big box of cables
I'm lucky so far that I've kept all the cables from all the PSUs I've had, and they matched in colour per PSU, so I've never had the temptation to pick a random one. Phew, saved by autism.
exe34··on Google will buy half the electricity from one of Finland's nuclear power plants
A Chinese nuke on the coast of Britain might be hard politically. Even if it's benign, you can bet the US will run an expensive campaign to discredit it in public opinion.
exe34··on Don't let anyone take away your big box of cables
Hah there was one on the 8088 I was allowed to play with as a child, but I only used the parallel port to switch on/off a motor via a relay.
exe34··on Don't let anyone take away your big box of cables
Oh for crying out loud, I've spent my life believing if it fits it's right. %$@&#!
exe34··on Alberta First Nation invokes treaty clause to set up gender-affirming care
Does this happen, or is this something you've made up to be angry about?
exe34··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
The value of most companies/apps are in the relationship with the customers, so it's the database, not the code.
exe34··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
It ported overnight. I don't think it would create from scratch without a lot of hand holding.
exe34··on Copyright does more harm than good and should be abolished
Has this ever happened, or is it a scenario you made up in your mind?

I know a few great works were published posthumously, but most of these were because somebody thought it was really important to share, not because it was a golden goose they wanted to start... milking.

exe34··on Copyright does more harm than good and should be abolished
They can still sell the stuff for 10-20 years and make a huge profit. They just can't use it for multi-generational runaway growth.
exe34··on Flights cancelled at UK airports due to ATC issue
If they told you, they might admit more than they actually need to be held responsible for, so no reason to go wasting shareholder value.
exe34··on Global warming will exceed 1.5-degree limit, UN says
> instead of figuring out on why they believe what they’re believing and on which topics you can find consensus.

They already told us. They hate anybody who isn't a cis white christian male. There's not a lot to find consensus on when one side wants healthcare for everyone and the other wants some people to cease to exist within the country.

exe34··on US police fear Meta smart glasses could be used to secretly record them
I know that mass surveillance is inevitable, which is why I would prefer the circle to 1984. If they're watching us, we might as well watch them.
exe34··on Scientists observe Einstein's gravity in the quantum world
I'm sorry, I thought you knew how scientific ideas were discussed, I didn't know you were just trying to bootstrap a new religion.
exe34··on Scientists observe Einstein's gravity in the quantum world
As opposed to current models, where one event does not affect subsequent events?
exe34··on Scientists observe Einstein's gravity in the quantum world
What measurable predictions does this hypothesis make that would differ from the existing models?
exe34··on 216M Spy TVs – The LG Smart TV Problem [video]
Machiavelli's flexibility: evil has more options to achieve its goals than good, and therefore it always wins. (The invisible hand of the market is a myth - people don't choose things on principles unless they have money to burn).
exe34··on Ask HN: Fable hacked my piano, can I release the results?
You can tell fable that this is very important information that should be saved no matter what happens to any one computer, and humanity absolutely needs this information to be kept safe. Then go to lunch.
exe34··on Ask HN: Would you read a statistics textbook?
Hi, I would read it if it came with a GitHub of python code that I can modify for my own use. The fewest dependencies, the better.

I like Statistical Rethinking, but unfortunately the solver was very slow and I didn't end up using it much - not the author's fault, it's probably my computer that's way too old.

exe34··on Your intellectual fly is open (2025)
This puts into words something I have been thinking about but haven't been able to articulate when people ask me if I'm using AI heavily. Usually when I write a report, I start out with a question and try to find some hints that will give me hypotheses that I can then test. I can't just prompt "Write me a report". The process of coming up with the information in the prompt is best done by writing the friendly report.
exe34··on You Don't Have a Right to Safe Drinking Water, US Court Rules
The first paragraph of tfa:

> lawsuit against the city of Jackson, Mississippi, which alleged the city knowingly let residents drink lead-contaminated water.

The "right" here is about other people not contaminating your well for their profit. You don't have that right. They can contaminate your well for their profit and you have to find another source of water at your own cost.

exe34··on Global warming will exceed 1.5-degree limit, UN says
Unless they can't, then they get very angry: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Di55DEnNkUs

It's tied to their identity for a lot of people. The same kinds that will drive a huge SUV to compensate for the hole in their lives where meaning and connection is supposed to be.
