examplary_cable··on Tool for Thought (2005)
With the accelerating force of information generation, I keep thinking about how to cope with this much entropy coming from everywhere. I currently have a pretty strict "information diet" as no to drown in the sea of words and words and words.

I'm also currently working on a "Tool for Thought" but as a browser. Fully customizable(plugins, themes, functions, HTML as UI etc)

examplary_cable··on Anki-fy your life
I like to use spaced repetition for everything.

I used it so much it has become sort of a "Corgnitive Primitive" where I put everything there: Questions, Facts, Interesting Things, Calendar Events, Prompts, Writing Tips, Mutate-this-idea, Mood Controls, Historical Events and Dates, Todos(Spaced Repetition Productivity?) etc.

One example would be: I've grown from a (...) to a (...). I complete the (...) with something from my current mood. This is good because I'm accumulating "Writings" from myself to publish a novel, manga or story later on. When I need to write something then I just consult my notes for everything I have written at that moment.

I'm currently working on a tool[1] that has built-in Spaced Repetition(I made my own algorithm and don't use SM-2[Anki's Algorithm])

examplary_cable··on Ask HN: Who needs beta testers?
https://github.com/ilse-langnar/notebook

Project Description: It's a tool for thought, browser, note-taking application with inspiration from: Roam Research, Obsidian, SigmaOS, Chrome etc. I'm trying to have a all-in-one browser where I don't have to leave to do anything. Everything should be done inside the browser.

Testing help: Anyone who has a non-linux, non-windows machine would be of great help because I need to fix the small bugs still.

Contact info: On on the githu issues (:

examplary_cable··on Ask HN: What's a website you wish more people knew about?
https://lexica.art

Is also pretty good. It's a "Stable Diffusion/AI Generated Image" search engine.

examplary_cable··on Ask HN: What are you working on this year?
I'm working on something similar.

It's a Collaborative "Second Brain" or Zettelkasten, it's local by default but you can sync your brain with other people. Still in aplha. The local version is free and the collaborative one will cost per sync. So if you only want to use the local version then its ok.

examplary_cable··on Ask HN: What's You Life's Work?
> I used to be a complete introvert and would become overwhelmed easily. Now I truly enjoy meeting new people and being put in new situations

I see this a somewhat of an identity problem. If you pick "shy" identities for yourself, then they all correlate on being shy( e.g: Autistic, Programmer, Nerd etc). So the more strongly you feel about being X, the shy-er you'll become. That's why I don't like to call myself too many things because I sub-consciously attach the sub-traits of the personality unto myself.

examplary_cable··on Ask HN: What's You Life's Work?

I love htmlx. That you so much for this. I'm currently using https://alpinejs.dev/ because it allows me to work directly with HTML so I can have meta-programming capabilities that React.js/Vue.js simply could not handle.

That you for htmlx!

examplary_cable··on Ask HN: What's You Life's Work?

LMAO.

If that's what interests you ha!

examplary_cable··on Ask HN: What's You Life's Work?
> but that dilution of interest prevents me from really excelling in one thing or having anything close to a "life's work".

Same.

I feel like I might stretch myself too thin and not be able to "become" anyone because of this. It's also because every low-hanging fruit was discovered or invented already, so presumably, in order to invent anything new you would be required to focus 100% of your time for 1 thing.

And I hate this.

So it's not possible for me to be interested in multiple things and avoid this feeling that I'm wasting my time?

Anyways, I'm also ok with that. I'll let interest guide me in my life journey.

examplary_cable··on Ask HN: What weird technical scene are you fond/part of?
- Ultra Customizable tools such as: Emacs, Obsidian, Vim, VSCode or anything you have an API to play with. I'm currently making this but for a browser[0].

- Memory: Supermemo, Decaying Curve, Tricks, Algorithms: Including Ankis, Supermemos and more.

- Programming Languages: Any kind. I like interesting stuff such as Zig, Elixir, Lisp and HTML(yes I said it).

examplary_cable··on Z-Library Was a Lifeline for Students on Shoestring Budgets
I believe Z-Library also allowed people(and incentivized) them to add books ... which would not get mirroed back to genesis.

So not only was the UI nicer, it also had books that were not available in genesis.

examplary_cable··on Writing down what I do in Obsidian
If anyone is interested in. I'm working on a "emacs-like" system that you can also use to take notes in, but it's more line a Outliner(like Roam Research) + Brownser. It's still in development.

Have you seen the "Learn in Public" thing?

This is where everything you do is by default public. You might want to look into it.

examplary_cable··on Ask HN: Comment here about whatever you're passionate about at the moment
Have you produced anything interest that you could share using lisp/closure/common lisp?
examplary_cable··on Ask HN: Comment here about whatever you're passionate about at the moment
> I have some unique insights

Could you elaborate more?

examplary_cable··on Ask HN: Comment here about whatever you're passionate about at the moment
I'm currently working on making the most(hopefully) editable and configurable software/browser/tool/app ever.

Yes I'm trying to directly compete with emacs for the title.

I love the idea of lisp, hypercard, SmallTalk, Self Referentiality, Tools for Thought, make-your-own-software.

I was inspired by many different ideas in software. Immediate feedback(Bret Victor-Inventing on Principle), Reactivity, meta-programming etc.

If someone made a plugin, you should ... in principle be able to edit it, so you learn by "thinkering". Editability, learnining via example.

All of this is done with HTML. To check it: https://github.com/ilse-langnar/notebook

examplary_cable··on Logseq: Privacy-First, Joyful Platform for Knowledge Management
Hey, I'm working on a "outliner" app too. But it's supposed to be more extendable with simple HTML:

https://github.com/ilse-langnar/notebook

examplary_cable··on Obsidian 1.0 – Personal knowledge base app
I used obsidian for a long time. But the problem for me was that it's "granular" enough. The basic "atom" is a markdown file. There's nothing wrong with that of course. But I wanted to have the freedom of simply writing something, without worrying in which "file" it would go. After that I started working on my own "roam-like" app, I took inspirations from Spacemacs(The SPC key concent) and use HTML as the "final form" of things. if you want to look at it's at: https://github.com/ilse-langnar/notebook
examplary_cable··on Notes against note-taking systems
I believe there's a sweet spot between note-taking as a procrastination cope and adding actual value. As in, storing important insights that might trigger more insights in a different context(future).

The value of note-taking is undeniable, it's like a new "layer" after the neocortex where your memories are not exponentially decaying by the lack of usage. So utilization is not the sole factor for recall.

If done well note-taking be be considered "externalized cognition" where you instead of holding everything in your brain and treat as a storage + compute. You just compute. Anything important will be there in your notes. This allows you to have more "mental energy" to actually draw connections between things instead of struggling to remember them. It's like the beta version of neura-link or other intelligence-augmenting technologies.

I'm working on such a thing right now [1] It's like roam(outliner) but also have a HTML(plain text, stable) Engine for you to build more things inside of it.

examplary_cable··on Curio – Notebook application for note-taking and research
I'm working on a tool where it's like that ... but with a generic filesystem, so theres no lock-in.

examplary_cable··on Curio – Notebook application for note-taking and research
If you want to quickly check out, I'm working on a tool that works using a "generic" filesystem/files/folders to build a note-taking app, so even if you stop using the app, your stuff is still there in a normal format that can be extended with something like vim, Emacs, Sublime, VSCode, ??? etc.

examplary_cable··on Spaced repetition can allow for infinite recall
I have read a lot of comments that appear to be a modification of "I used anki but the accumulation made me drop it".

If you're interested, I've worked in a Spaced Repetition Algorithm where they is no card accumulation, you review whenever you feel like. In order to maximize pleasure.

In the future I'll also configure it to give you subject you "feel" like reviewing at the moment, since pleasure is also associated with memory.

https://github.com/ilse-langnar/notebook

examplary_cable··on Spaced repetition can allow for infinite recall
I believe this will fit in here:

I'm working on a program that solves this problem: we don't have mandatory daily reviews and we also have a Spaced Repetition Algorithm for reviews. Also it's much more flexible than Anki & Supermemo. So you don't have to stress over as to complete the daily grind.

examplary_cable··on After Obsidian and Logseq, I give Dendron a try
There's a certain inflection point where it's just better to build your own tools.

I understand your point and I kinda agree, but this is really a long-term project, particularly the standard.

This is based off the idea that browsers might die, but HTTP will live on.

The same principle applied here, this tool in particular might die out and rot, but the standard/protocol will live on!

examplary_cable··on After Obsidian and Logseq, I give Dendron a try
I'll make a gif for it thanks, it was trying to show how incremental learning work( in this case, incremental reading)
examplary_cable··on After Obsidian and Logseq, I give Dendron a try
I've experienced similar frustrations with notetaking apps.

I'm now working on a tool similar to "Obsidian, Logseq and Dendron".

It came as a frustration of previous tools(I've used ALL of them). They're either not flexible enough, not light enough, not powerful enough, not portable enough etc.

So I made: https://github.com/ilse-langnar/notebook/

It combines both studying/references. So it's a flashcard(I don't user Supermemo algo tho) + Notetaking. It's also built on a standard so you can develop commandline/mobile/toaster app that is compatible.
