evilmoo··on Apparently you cannot have the Kanye interview on Google Drive now
Reading and comprehending is hard.

You can have it on Google Drive, you just can’t share it.

> 5 business days is our mean lead time for that unit. Most workstations are 2 days.

So this is an advert? Gotcha.

I think if you called out at the top of the article then it would have been a little more honest.

evilmoo··on Email doesn’t disappear
It's a great advert for Fastmail from the CEO of Fastmail.
evilmoo··on UK mass digital surveillance regime ruled unlawful
Oh no, now the government won't have access to my browsing history.

Apart from GCHQ as part of TEMPORA & NSA as part of UPSTREAM.

Umm, so the conclusion is that:

"Using TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues"

Can translate into a warning from the developers, if you take the first letter of each word and turn it into latin?

Isn't "Using TrueCrypt is not secure as it may contain unfixed security issues" already a warning from the developers?

evilmoo··on SubtlePatterns.com has been hijacked.
I think it's more a case of "I forgot to renew the domain and someone jumped in and re-registered it" rather than "My site has been hijacked"

This has happened in the past: http://www.out-law.com/page-4049

evilmoo··on Ask HN: Is saying "I don't know during an interview" something negative?
Whilst interviewing SysAdmin candidates, I prefer an answer along the lines of: "I don't know, but I'd do x,y and z to find out"

Instead of guessing and potentially being very wrong and breaking things.

Be honest, but prove you're smart by showing how you'd get to the answer.

evilmoo··on Is there a server admin guide for noobs?
Make backups. Take backups often. Ensure the backups work.

Remember these and most other things are just window dressing.

evilmoo··on Magdalen Oxford gets rejection letter from student
Or, to paraphrase her letter.

"Dear University,

I realised 10 microseconds after leaving the admissions interview that I have no chance in gaining admission to your establishments.

In the age old tradition of it being better to be the dumper, than the dumpee, I'm going to try and make myself feel a bit better by 'rejecting you'.

I'm sure you don't care one jot about this letter, but if I circulate it to my friends on facebook, I might get my 15minutes of fame.

I wonder if any other establishments will read this and accept me?

Sincerely.... "
