It is pretty subjective though. And what you can create is pretty much irrelevant to what platform you are using, it more about your brain.
In fact, there is a discussion about the definition of unsupervised learning, because of the emergence of techniques like word2vec, where it essentially supervised learning but construct all its tasks from the data itself without any labelling.
Comparing to speech recognition, NLP currently doesn't enjoy the same level of success by adapting DL technique, AFAIK. By success, I mean parity with human level performance. Current techniques are far from understanding reasonably complex commands/requirement expressed in everyday language and react to it correspondingly.
IMHO, this is as hard as solving the AGI problem itself. Having a chatbot that people can talk to without realizing it is AI or not, is practically indistinguishable from mastering true intelligence, as is defined by Turing Test.
I am curious about your definition of 'AI' that seems only obvious to the term 'Artificial'.
The assumption that only when we have comparable number of parameters to the number of brain cells we can have nearly human performance is no longer true. It gradually loses traction once people discover that stochastic connections may be more effective than merely increase layers/parameters.
Seriously, look at Apple's announcements of late, it didn't feel like an event trying to wow its customers, it felts like an internal business review where executives boasting about how impressive their achievements/progress are since last one.
Edit: look at the latest Macbook Pro, how out of touch this company has become, to put their philosophy/belief(thinner! lighter! no ports!) before true usability, to the point I feel sad because MBP was my favorite product from Apple.
How to deal with the left behind society? Trying to find them new purposes of life? How can we make sure those new purposes won't be automated in the future? Or if large portion of the population facing the problem of being jobless, is population growth/immigration still a positive thing? What about education? If we know that most of the people won't be needed in the workforce any way, is education still something worth having, except for very basic common sense?
This all leads me to think that the future might be more static and less energetic one, yet it might be more affluent than ever. It could also be more equal than ever, that most people might be under the care of some really intelligent system to spend their whole life, without really being required to achieve anything, but it will be OK, and will become the new norm. Population might decline, but they will be gradually replaced by robots, until new equilibrium has been reached.
What I am objecting here, are those annoying cool kids try to sell their flashy green solutions, like 'A new machine learning library written in Rust' to other people, because 'yeah, Rust is better programming language than C++'.
That is what I called 'religion belief', for those people who don't really care what problems they solved, they just naively assume they are better because of the language they are using is different.
IMHO, ML people are pretty pragmatic, possible due to the fact ML itself a mixed paradigm with people from different background, so they don't hold religious belief towards programming languages comparing to some pure CS background folks.
Of cause JVM needs to focus on large heaps. Now it still stucks somewhere at 32GB for performance reason. And for heavy-lifting application like HBase/ElasticSearch, that is currently OK, but still makes it quite inconvenient to utilize larger memory(you might need deploy multiple instances on the same box, etc).
You can't invent a new buzzword and tell other people they are solving the wrong problem.
Not nearly true in any 'Data Driven' company...this dude has no idea who is arbitrating decisions in any reasonable size company...
There is nothing inherently in Chinese culture that prevents innovation. Innovated people gonna innovate, when they got the resources they need.
Poor country usually aren't very innovative, and China has become much richer at national level. To bet, there will be more innovations from China than not for the next several decades.
Religion is not a taboo in China, as is not welcome.
