I'm reading in most news sources that this merger is just wonderful and will benefit my life greatly

So a cautious person would naturally wonder when will an adversary (such as Iran?) choose to do something with this situation.

"The poor will always be with you, and they too need phones." -Jesus

"Glitch"? That sounds a bit too cutesy for this situation. How about something like "error"?

The dichotomy of streaming media versus owning physical media - it's like the difference between an automatic transmission and a manual transmission.

Do you want the car to drive you? Or do you want to drive the car?

Helsinki has one on display in the mid-level concourse of the Hakaniemi metro station. Sadly, it has no blinking lights.

The latter.

A Happy Hour is publicly priced in advance. Not so "dynamic".

Probably every click has to round-trip to East Ratfrak.

Only tangentially related, but I kind of miss bus plunge newspaper filler.

This sounds very complex and it explains why nobody explains it :)

I wonder if there's a teardown that has really dug into it.

So there's a big big matrix of tiny tiny motors under the trackpad ?

> trackpads that you'd swear are actually physically clicking

Like my Mac's trackpad ? Can someone ELI5 how it works ? It's gotta be magic-adjacent cos when the machine locks up, the trackpad is deader than a doornail.

I would think that a package that "draws a hierarchical / C4-based architecture diagram of your codebase" has the potential to become a de facto standard lickety-split if it's made available as a freebie to draw people to your software. You don't see C4's on Github because who wants to dig into how to use a tool to make a one-off ?

It's been done for decades. Supermarket coupons give price reductions to people with the time to survey, clip, organise, and use supermarket coupons. Discount codes at web checkout give price reductions to those "in the know". These are not personalised reductions, but they can be pretty precisely targeted.

Add a Tufte sidebar and Houston, we have nirvana.

And maybe some aspirin too, but probably less than you think.

Good point. What WOULD be the minimum age recommendation for Diplomacy ? A kid would have to be ready for blatant manipulation and mendacity.

Help! Murder! Police!

Stripping out copper... the USA has joined the ranks of post-Soviet Europe, where such thefts are (or have been at some point) routine. Infra-harvesting.

This makes you wonder what the US intel community (NSA et al.) must be doing with all THEIR massive A.I. power. Decades ago Bamford said the NSA always tried to be ten years ahead of the civilian state of the art. Of course that would not be possible nowadays (one would assume), but still, there has to be quite the sparring match going on in the shadows.

If you can also keep the usual tobacco-processing chemicals and other additives out, is the bare leaf, nicotine-free, arguably no worse than other common vices ?

Developer documentation in /src, yes. Anything else, no way.

IME developers have low tolerance for interrupting flow to track down the docu that is aimed at them, so keep it near and obvious.

> Those are infrared sensors that pick up the heat from car engines. They've had to be modified to pick up electric cars.

Do they pick up ICE motorcycles ? Electric motorcycles ?

Yup. It becomes crystal clear that nobody in authority in roadworks & traffic drives a motorcycle.

Did they learn this from the airlines ?

No no no it's not a game named Hex. It's a gaming genre where units move on a field of hexagons.

Let's play real stuff.

Stupid question: Does "total model footprint of 5.9GB" mean it will run in 8GB of RAM ? Or is that the size on disk ?

I grew up in the 60s & 70s and I was SO sure I'd be able to go into orbit for (say) my 40th birthday. Pan-Am space clippers and more.

No such luck tho. The US had the tech - but not affordably.
