eungyu··on Welcoming Weak Signals
Security signals are weak in nature. Instead of triaging them as one-offs, can we turn them into force multipliers?

eungyu··on SoftBank’s Next 30-Year Vision (2010) [pdf]
Considering it's 2010, I'll admit there are some good parts. But it's distracted like hell.
eungyu··on Ikea has bought TaskRabbit
I also like that you don't need to be a literate person to assemble their furniture (wordless instructions).
eungyu··on As Bike-Sharing Brings Out Bad Manners, China Asks, What’s Wrong with Us?
I just hope we don't sling shot back to individualistic ownership driven economy (as opposed to sharing economy). Sincerely hoping that after the dust settles there is a tiny bit of forward progress.
eungyu··on Announcing Docker 1.9: Production-Ready Swarm and Multi-Host Networking
This completes Docker.
eungyu··on Hidden obstacles for self driving cars
I think it may not be a long time until we realize that achieving fully cognizant AI would be faster than covering all these corner cases in somewhat hard coded logic.
eungyu··on Apple Says New OS X ‘Mavericks’ Will Be Offered for Free
OS X Prices by Version - http://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/osx-pr...
eungyu··on Introducing the New Yahoo Mail
Does mail apps matter any more especially if it's for a specific brand? I think people are increasing growing accustomed to unified mails and imaps.
eungyu··on University of California introduces a modern logo
couldn't agree more
eungyu··on University of California introduces a modern logo
If the aim was to design something modern and minimalistic , the fading gradient at the end of letter 'C' somewhat destroys the point. Clear boundaries would improve the clarity and enhance applicability (on stationaries, prints, etc). I don't mind going modern, but they should do it well with clear purpose.
eungyu··on Google+ Is Growing at Facebook Speed
I was stating my personal experience and how different it is from what the numbers suggest. I am sorry hear that you had to generalize on your own.
eungyu··on Google+ Is Growing at Facebook Speed
I am not in doubt about these statistics, but the perceived reality is far from what Google is trying to suggest. From my personal experience G+ is still a ghost town (as far as seeing activity from my friends).
eungyu··on Google+: Communities and photos
I thought it was very odd that Google inserted this paragraph in the beginning of a feature announcement blog post. I think it only reaffirms the inferiority complex of G+ by explicitly explaining that they are indeed a vibrant community.
eungyu··on LinkedIn Users Can Now Call Each Other for Free
I would be surprised to see this call service take off. Isn't the whole notion of using social network like LinkedIn (asynchronously) phone call (synchronous and disrupting) alternative in the first place?
eungyu··on Apple’s Wireless-Charging Patent Might Actually Free Us From Wires
I would love to see Duracell or Energizer jump into the competition given that their business may have significant impact once these devices are out. I know I, for one, will throw away battery powered peripherals.
eungyu··on Some new iMacs marked as being 'Assembled in USA'
If this was a pure PR move, then Apple might have announced and shown the factory, people, facility some time ago.
eungyu··on Upgrading RAM on new iMac practically impossible
Thinness vs upgradability! Such a huge tradeoff.

I really don't see the point in making desktop products super thin (there by making it inaccessible). Thinness is probably one of the last innovation area that customer may be excited for a desktop product. I would hope for better R&D direction in the future from Apple.

This was evident in the Apple stores this weekend, where I saw iMac tables failing to draw any crowd.

eungyu··on What storytelling does to our brains
Indeed!

Better quote from the article would be:

storytelling is the only way to plant ideas into other people’s minds.

This is way easier than recursively going into someone's dream, only to meet your ex-wife as base condition.

eungyu··on World’s narrowest house by Jakub Szczesny
There are many attempts at making compact houses. I think the genius of this house is in making it narrow (short-width) without compromising the length, which makes it actually habitable.
eungyu··on WebTCP: Making TCP Connections From Browser
Nice hack (although I would put this in the category of 'workaround'). The idea is cool, but I can already imagine all sorts of debugging nightmares with this approach. To begin with, how do we find out where the connection is broken (Is it the client socket or the proxy socket)? Bad connections have different reasons (in C terms: ECONNRESET, EWOULDBLOCK, ENETUNREACH, etc); are these specific reasons propagated verbatim? What about flow control between proxy and client?

There is always a chasm between whipping up a cool hack and making something usable. This hack needs a long bridge in between.

eungyu··on 6 Reasons Los Angeles Is Suddenly Booming With Startups
* Face it. No matter when you’re reading this, it’s probably 72 degrees and sunny right now in L.A.

The article's credibility starts to crumble at reason no. 6

eungyu··on Apple Said to Fire Maps Manager After Flaws Hurt iPhone 5
Thanks for this insider knowledge (I assume you work at A). It feels better to know that my initial assumptions were incorrect.
eungyu··on Apple Said to Fire Maps Manager After Flaws Hurt iPhone 5
My first reaction was "At least give the guy credit for the Flyover feature". But I just found that the feature came with the acquisition of C3 Technologies (2011). Looking at other aspects of the Maps app, I have hard time convincing others there are innovative components that originated from the team.
eungyu··on Cosmo: A free Metro-inspired theme for Bootstrap
Sweet, going flat will reduce the gradient bloat that's currently in the default Bootstrap css.
eungyu··on Perfectum Dashboard
This is good, but Ratchet kinda stole the thunder today
eungyu··on Apple releases iOS 6.0.1 with improvements and bug fixes
It's worth noting that the rotational speed of the wheels are different.
