On top of that we export disabled guns that are easily modified to a normal guns...and are of course affordable and easy to get by ...terrorists ?
I do not feel safer because we have a strict gun control. I am safe because my country is insignificant.
I can imagine a lot of stuff that could benefit from this on the other hand I can see why it has not been done (costs, complexity etc).
Anyway I am sad that RubyMotion is not just as popular as Rails is. That is...very surprising...
And btw this is a big problem in OSS. We have a lot of good stuff and underpaid people / teams / companies. Because of OSS zealots and leeches.
What people search for
anything else ?
You do not really want to use public services in my country. Trains are in desolate state and remind you of nazi trains used to transfer prisoners.
Health services are underfunded and the 50% of funds are being stolen by the gov and other oligarchs. Oh and when they get sick they get treated in another country.
Most of the youngsters in my country see capitalism as the only way to vote in everyday life. You vote with your money wherever you go.
It's not ideal but we hope it works. Unlike our corrupt socialism.
However I would not ask a candidate or more specifically I would not show him the code for fork bomb. I would ask him what fork bomb is or demonstrate it on some demo VM and ask him how would he prevent himself..
There's too many technologies already. I would not ask specific questions about the staff we use but instead a very generic ones.
Like really it's almost impossible to be a specialist these days and you can pretend your company is full of rockstars and works on the next big thing but in fact you are just bunch of posers.
Nobody really knows everything to the detail. I really hated when my colleague asked new people really deep stuff about Puppet and then we have switched to Ansible and half of the team was clueless and had to learn along the way. That's what good engineers do. They adapt. They learn the concepts and focus on delivering a good service. They do not memorize man pages.
When it comes to scripting / programming do not print scripts on paper and make the candidate to describe you what is it for or find a bug / mistake just by reviewing the paper. It's insulting. Especially if you do not follow any conventions or your code is not idiomatic.
Also I would never ask a question "What does the following command / parameter do". These are not good questions. Ofc they are asked often during interviews but are just plain stupid.
How would you display last / first 10 lines of a file ? How would you remove an X string from a line / row of text ?
and so on...
Otherwise it's too subjective.
It's pure capitalism I get it. I like capitalism okay ? I live in a socialist corrupt hellhole.
Even if it's harder that does not mean it's more useful than to drive car properly.
That's why the rich countries are outsourcing to cheaper countries so much.
How do you justify 150k salary in US vs 25k salary in India ? Different costs of living ? Yes and no. In many poor countries some stuff is just more expensive than in the richer ones.
5% of population is working on really groundbreaking stuff. We are just lucky we are in demand but our time will come as well and then those Senior Software Engineers that brag about how they are rich and successful will be useless once again.
95% of software is pure s...t so please show some respect.
The more I work in IT and meet more people the more I appreciate "normal workers" that take care of our stomachs, clothing, trash and so on.
They treat you like hobo that came to their kingdom begging for a cookie.
They are the kings and queens and you are nothing just a pathetic beggar.
It's really exhausting and painful to go through it again and again especially when you know that most of the companies are just wannabe hipsters or the same corporate hellholes.
They pretend they are on the same level as Rob Pike and alike but what most of the people do is they write shitty code, shitty UI and shitty everything.
Google is definitely worse they cannot really make a compelling product that would DIRECTLY earn them money .It's all about ADS.
Besides most of the companies are trying to move the manufacturing to Vietnam, Indonesia, India, Africa etc or automatizing as much as possible.
I am less compassionate than the other folks in Europe and would really prefer a more capitalistic system at least in my country. But we Europeans are....ehhhh.
I mean iphone costs about the same anywhere in the world ( okay it's sometimes more usually not less (Brazil?)) so there's that...
Yet most of the major/minor innovations comes from the US these days, then it's Asian, Israel and the last is Europe.
You can counter argue that there's a big brain drain but whose fault it is ?
Europeans are just cocky too busy posturing.
eg Software Engineer from Atlantis earns 100 000 USD but pays 55% of tax so takes home only 45000 Software Engineer from Middle-Earth earns 60 000 USD but pays 10% tax and takes home 54000
etc
If yes then...well...same can happen to any kind of software / project
You could still develop stuff for server OS while having the ability to play games without having to reboot or use wine inside linux.
I have recently switched to emacs from TextMate. I have not been using TextMate to its full potential as I simply did not have the need to do so. It was good. It worked great out of the box.
Then I realized that I needed to do much more than just use a text editor and have been glueing a lots of other utilities together.
Then I doscovered emacs. A behemoth godknows how old. And decided to learn it.
The learning experience is really steep but I think it's worth it. EMACS survived the test of the time along with VI(m). But sometimes I just feel it's too much and the great extensibility comes at price.
I am looking forward to Atom but the performance is not that great compared to EMACS. Not yet.
Demand is decreasing and companies that offer services for free are undervaluing (think Google, Microsoft) our salaries.
Not to be rude again but there's a fierce competition out there and good enough does no longer translate into instant $$$. Canada is still a very rich country and when you compare the wages with India,Vietnam or Eastern/Central Europe it's hard to compete. These people are becoming "good enough" and paying more becomes harder and harder to justify if you can just hire senior dev in India or Eastern Europe for 40k $ a year.
It's basically the same with degrees. Your customer does not care if the app / product has been made by a person with a degree. It's the same for us. We do not want to pay (money or time does not matter) for a degree if we can get the education for free...somehow.
If we exclude SV salaries how much more your avg US tech worker earns compared to his canadian peer.
And is this concentration of wealth good for the economy overall ?
I mean the canadians experience exactly the same. Even the high paid workers in Vancouver cannot afford housing as the "super rich" chinese that climbed upon the backs of their fellow countrymen and then swarmed Canada.
Don't you think that such concentration of wealth is not really a good idea ?
