espinielli··on Show HN: A working 3D model of an Enigma machine
Maybe of interest https://observablehq.com/@tmcw/enigma-machine
espinielli··on Micro Radar: a tiny open-source flight radar for your desk
It would be nice to see an increase of feeders too...I mean people getting passionate about crowd sourcing and contributing back
espinielli··on Thermodynamics rules future orbital data centers
wouldn't it be nice to blow with some gas a (conductive) balloon around the heat exchanger? You would increase the external area and heat exchange would be with a gas... Just out of my mind...maybe silly.
espinielli··on Ryujinx (Nintendo Switch emulator) has been removed from GitHub
The forks from the listed co-developers are still available...and some of them pretty recent
espinielli··on Colour Schemes and Templates
Graphics with scientific data become clearer when the colours are chosen carefully.
espinielli··on Google is overhauling search results with AI overviews and Gemini organization
For sure Google is not great at AI given the lower and lower quality of their results in the last months. I hope not to be the only one to have noticed this...
espinielli··on Ask HN: Affordable hardware for running local large language models?
maybe LLaMA helps https://justine.lol/oneliners/
espinielli··on Google Fit dev APIs shutdown set, fate of Android, Wear OS apps go unannounced
Another example of Google inability in anything but Search (and even there I find it lower and lower in quality these days.)
espinielli··on North Yorkshire Council to phase out apostrophe use on street signs
As if database were not able to del with apostrophes or other special characters... Yes you have to sanitize your queries, but you have to do it anyway. Client applications will of course have to be smarter
espinielli··on Flightradar24's new GPS jamming map
The map implementation is not great, what I miss most is country borders and labels. https://gpsjam.org has come out first and is a much better design IMHO. Flightradar24 has _just_ the advantage of bigger sensors network and hence wider coverage.
espinielli··on Observable 2.0, a static site generator for data apps
That is my point too. Now that I have tried Observable Framework (and before it D3, Plot, Observable Notebook) I do not think I can propose to change our statically generated site to just use Observable Framework. I will explore ways to migrate parts of the existing stuff and how integrate new pages generated by Framework... A Big Bang is not an option for us... (for anybody I guess, so it looks quite a need...but I understand that it doesn't go in the right business direction for Observable the company)
espinielli··on Observable 2.0, a static site generator for data apps
This looks like a dream!
