es··on Treesaver.js - JavaScript library for creating magazine style layouts
Looks like it's an issue on all Chrome installations Confirmed, Chrome (Ubuntu 9.10)
es··on Ask HN: Tell me about your failed startup.
Situation may be different. Co-founder may sell fast by promising more features. If it's done without consultations with tech co-founder it may break the architecture and development cycle completely. And in case feature was promised and never delivered customers will be disillusioned.
es··on My Android development income report
It's interesting that WP Stats is the least popular app. Even simple Big Red Button ("Don't push this button" app) beats it!

Actually it's a bit sad to see that market is more favorable to some "cool" simple apps rather to useful, but more complex.

es··on Email overload? Try Priority Inbox
I can't agree more. I was really disappointed when found out that I need to wait for release. Most likely I'll forgot unless it will appear on top of HN next week.
es··on Ask HN: I've built a product - how do I take payments in the UK?
Take a look on 2checkout.com. We are using it for more than a month already(moved from PayPal to accept customers who can't use PayPal).
es··on World's smallest Arc server
Such device can be great to ship your web products to customers. For example you can create CRM system or web gallery and ship it on SheevaPlug. So client will be able to plug it in his local network and have it working without any complex setup.
es··on Ask HN: Where do you live?
Mykolayiv, Ukraine
es··on Strangers at a cocktail party
I absolutely agree. Test mini-project is probably the best way to see person in action. No tests, recommendations or anything else can assure that person will actually fit your team.

The is a good reading regarding similarities of religion (especially ancient east philosophies) and modern science. If anyone is interested take a look at F.Kapra's book "Dao of physics". I've read it on my philosophy class in uni. After it I see much less contradictions.
es··on Peter Norvig's collection of quotes
One of my favorite quotes is by H. Skovoroda: "Merciful God for making the attainment of what is necessary easy, and for making everything that is hard to get unnecessary"
es··on Save Money By Deleting Your Cookies--A Case Study
I've already got used to this neat feature :)
es··on Recess PHP Framework Public Preview
It will be great to see some comparison with popular frameworks - Cakephp, Zend, CodeIgniter, etc.

Please put some demo and allow downloading without the registration.

es··on I haven’t given up on PHP — yet
Could you name reasons why it was a costly mistake for you? Were there scaling problems or issues with maintaining existing code? I'm not trying to protect php, just curious.
es··on Why port your Firefox add-on to Internet Explorer? Because your competitors won't
I wanted to say that Firefox users "mess with your business model" because they have plugins for that. If you will give IE users a set of plugins to choose from, the most popular will be AdBlock. So main benefit they are referring to will be gone.

Sorry if my English is a bit confusing, it's not my first language.

es··on Why port your Firefox add-on to Internet Explorer? Because your competitors won't
Is it just me or "IE evangelist" sounds a bit strange? :)

Hm... this article does not make sense.

First they say

Firefox users are more likely to "mess" with your business model. "They tend to install things like ad blockers, whereas the Internet Explorer user is more mainstream."

Then they actually want IE users to start using custom plugins too.

Working as a web developer I have to deal with IE6 bugs almost on a daily basis. Sometimes I imagine how much time is spent on this. If we could use it on different purpose we could write a new browser with complete standards compliance.

es··on Why developers prefer Macs
SimCity had a bug where it used memory it already freed. This worked under DOS for whatever reason, but not under Windows. So the Windows team hardcoded a special case just for SimCity.

It sounds like there was a some kind of bug in DOS that allowed SimCity to work with object freed from memory and Windows team tried to hide it in Windows by making a special case :)

In any case I think it's called going an extra mile for the customer, isn't it? (I can't believe I'm writing it about MS)

es··on Some Web sites are designed for older browsers
Well... I see there is still a "method to enable Compatibility View for specific Web pages".

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />

es··on Bad bloggers copy, great bloggers steal
Hm... after reading this article I will get myself a book by Borges. I've already forgot when I read a book last time except manuals and tutorials...
es··on PHP framework comparison benchmarks
My latest project was based on 1.1, which is actually a stable version. And it does handle more than three requests per second ;)

But I have some doubts about cake 1.2 now. I believe we should wait for stable 1.2 release...

es··on PHP framework comparison benchmarks
I can't believe CakePHP is so slow. Probably they have used unstable version. I used cake in few projects and had no problems with speed.
es··on Hotmail Blocking Email
We had exactly the same problem and have tried a lot of things. But recently we have solved it. You need to set SPF and register it with hotmail. It should solve your issue.
es··on Python MVC web framework - web2py
hm... it looks like all criteria were chosen right for web2py. By the way php is not a framework, so comparison is inaccurate here.

However web2py look pretty interesting, I think I will definitely give it a try.

es··on Ask YC: How to Find Problems to Solve?
Start working as a freelancer and you will see a lot of ideas floating around.
es··on Best Text Editors
As for me I just love TextMate. "E" is a good alternative on Windows platform.
es··on PHP Sucks, But It Doesn't Matter
The funny thing is that I do believe that Chinese writing and Zen are awesome :)
es··on PHP Sucks, But It Doesn't Matter
For more than 3 year I've not seen "magic_quotes" or "globals_on" turned on anywhere. As far as I know in php6 there won't be globals option at all.
es··on PHP Sucks, But It Doesn't Matter
Do you believe this questions share the same answer?
es··on PHP Sucks, But It Doesn't Matter
Actually php5 gives almost everything that was missing. The only thing is that a lot of pilots used to work with poor instrumentation and don’t want to switch! If php sucks then why there are so many successful products/services written on it?
es··on PHP Sucks, But It Doesn't Matter
it's not the same... I've seen ugly code in python and cpp and really great code in php using smarty and cakephp.

What does not allow you to write good code in php5, using unit testing and MVC framework?

es··on PHP Sucks, But It Doesn't Matter
the main issue is in developer, not in language.
