eole666··on Using any C++ library in Godot
GDExtension is the standard way. But building a custom version of Godot is common and won't be a problem for distributing the game on steam or any platform. It's necessary to build your own godot version and export templates to produce an encrypted build not too easily hackable for example.
eole666··on Any Human Ever – One life, drawn at random from all who have ever lived
We are not in a scarcity world. Or it's deliberated scarcity. We have way enough means to educate, heal, feed and transport everyone. Yet most of the world work full time to produce more and more of meaningless products, and to make the economic curves go up. Also, a huge part of the population is still poor, while the rich people get richer. And on us dooms the perspective of an extreme climate crisis.

I don't know how you can think that AI or "Physical AI" will solve any of that without a really huge shift in our locals and worldwide politics. It will probably cause a massive economical crisis before anything else of importance.

eole666··on SpaceX stock erases all its gains and slides below IPO price in intraday trading
Maybe this has to do with the technical unfeasibility of sending human to Mars and back to earth while keeping them alive ? Throwing billions at it won't make it happen magically.
eole666··on The New Collabora Office for Desktop
I use regularly both libreoffice and collabora online and I can say the former is snappy compared to the second. It can take a longer time to open thought, mostly on Windows.
eole666··on The New Collabora Office for Desktop
I briefly tried it : I don't see the point, there is no way to connect it to your online collabora instance or directly to Nextcloud or anything except your local files.

Just use LibreOffice at this point, at least it has native performances and is not an app bundled inside a browser.

eole666··on OpenClaw is what Apple intelligence should have been
People actually use this kind of software today ? When I read OpenClaw description : "The AI that actually does things. Clears your inbox, sends emails, manages your calendar, checks you in for flights. All from WhatsApp, Telegram, or any chat app you already use.". It does not appeal to me at all. I wouldn't trust an IA agent near my mails, calendars, messages, flights or anything it could mess-up with. It sounds like a security nightmare waiting to happen.
eole666··on Unity's Mono problem: C# code runs slower than it should
Yes, it tooks me 2 years to see how much garbage strings conversion to String Names generates and how a fool I was calling something like Input.IsActionPressed("move_right") every frame (sadly it's the example given in the input documentation).
eole666··on Unity's Mono problem: C# code runs slower than it should
I'll add that C# have better performances than gdscript. It doesn't make a difference for most of the things you code in a game, but it comes in handy when needed.
eole666··on Unity's Mono problem: C# code runs slower than it should
Godot 4 C# web export is coming soon : https://github.com/godotengine/godot/pull/106125
eole666··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (Nov 2025)
I am working on a 3D online party game : Epic Musical Chairs => https://s.team/a/3414020

- Musical Chairs

- With Fights

- And Epic Music

- Made with Godot 4, C# & Wwise

- Online with Nakama & Hathora

eole666··on Show HN: It took me 5() months to build a Plausible alternative
Congrats for the launch ! How does it compare to Matomo ?

Matomo is a well known open source Analytics alternative, GDPR compliant, used by millions, and it seems to solve the same problem while being freely self-hostable and offering more features. Its cloud version price is more expensive than yours thought.

eole666··on Godotcaml for Godot 4.2
C# support is great. But yes, if you need to call a library/extension written in gdscript from the C# code, you'll need to write some C# bindings to make it practical.
eole666··on Dot – A standalone open source app meant for easy use of local LLMs and RAG
Looks nice! But some informations about the hardware requirement are often missing in this kind of project :

- how much ram is needed

- what CPU do you need for decent performances

- can it run on a GPU? And if it does how much vram do you need / does it work only on Nvidia?

eole666··on Coinbase Shows Balance as 0
Well, bitforex is offline since february 23th after a 57 millions withdrawal.. So coinbase going down wouldn't be that suprising : https://www.coindesk.com/business/2024/02/26/bitforex-websit...
eole666··on LoaderShip – CSS-Only Loaders
The big "Get started" button does nothing (or maybe show a modal and close it really quickly). This is a good way to scare users away. The loaders are nice thought.
eole666··on Flowblade: Open-source video editor for Linux
Should be nice for small projects. But for anything serious with large RAW video footage, an online video will quickly fall short.
eole666··on Oppo Find X7 Ultra: smartphone features the first dual periscope zooms
For me, new phones are missing those features, wich were quite common a few years ago:

- screen size < 6 inches

- 3.5mm audio jack support

- battery lasting more than one day

eole666··on Tracking developer build times to decide if the M3 MacBook is worth upgrading
Maybe you could split the code base without going full micro service. Keep the monolith base, and split some parts in independent module/libraries that won't be rebuild every time, something like that.
eole666··on Tracking developer build times to decide if the M3 MacBook is worth upgrading
Maybe before buying M3 MacBook for everyone you should consider splitting your 1M line code base to avoid recompiling the whole thing for every change.. I don't know well the go ecosystem at all but it seems to me you should really consider optimizing your code base for compilation speed before creating fancy build time chart per cpu with AI and buying hundreds of super powerfull and expensive machines to compile it a bit faster...
eole666··on Google’s dominance under siege: Antitrust trial threatens sweeping changes
I tried duckduckgo for a while.. I don't know if it's because my main language is french, but I found the results really worse than google's and so I used the !g bang really often. I switched to startpage (proxy seargh engine giving google results), it was ok but a bit slow.

Now I use Kagi search, you have to pay for it, but results are great (often better than google) : less SEO spam, a lot of tuning possible, custom searches, small web searches, good image and map searches. And it is supposed to respect your privacy and private data.

eole666··on Llama 2 Everywhere (L2E): Standalone, Binary Portable, Bootable Llama 2
Cool project ! It would be nice if the README displayed the ram (and vram for GPUs) needed to run it on a device.
eole666··on Unlimited Kagi searches for $10 per month
I'm trying Kagi now :

- search results are greats !

- the speed isn't that great (results can take more than 1s to show) : does it become faster once you pay for it ? Or maybe it has to do with the access from europe.

eole666··on The Project Gutenberg Open Audiobook Collection
For now, actual voice actors make audiobooks listening way more enjoyable. Those AI voices are convincing but lack the soul, emotions and art direction of actual voice acting. Think about listening to a book for 8 hours with a monotonous AI voice reading it...
eole666··on Bintracker: A chiptune audio workstation for the 21st century
Really cool project! I think that the home page lacks some audio exemple produced with it or video captures of the software being used to get a better idea of what it's like.
eole666··on Embracing sabbaticals, sunsetting retirement age
Or maybe we can go further with a personal qualification salary for everyone, stopping the run for economic growth at all cost before it's too late for our planet (and us) : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_Qualification_Salar...
eole666··on Show HN: Rivet – Open-source game server management with Nomad and Rust
Really cool! I'll consider it when launching my godot game. Is there any plan to support "relayed multi-player", with the actual game server being one of the players, and rivet in charge of match making and making the bridge between the remote players. Like nakama : https://heroiclabs.com/docs/nakama/concepts/multiplayer/rela...
eole666··on Moonbit: Fast, compact and user friendly language for WebAssembly
Well, you can do graphics programming in c++ or using a game engine and compile it to Webassembly.. So this language could definitely have a graphics library.
eole666··on Snappy UIs with WebAssembly and Web Workers
Interesting article, but it's lacking a performance comparison between wasm and javascript running in workers.

JS can be largely fast enough for a lot of use cases: if I had some WebAssembly to a project I need a good reason to do so.

eole666··on Twist: Slack alternative from the makers of Todoist
There is also one really nice alternative to slack that can be self hosted easily : it's called mattermost.
eole666··on Show HN: Primo – a visual CMS with Svelte blocks, a code editor, and SSG
Nice project! I was a bit disappointed that you need a supabase account for "self hosting it".. And this is supposed to work only on some hosting service that can connect to Supa base, and also it encourages to fetch your pages content from github.. So it's more a CMS to run with specific service providers rather than something you can actually self host.
