env123··on The NBA Feels a Backlash in China After a Tweet Supporting Hong Kong
The 2047 Hong Kong fiasco, the Irish backstop, the US left-right divide, blame it all on the British Empire
env123··on Political Operatives Faked Millions of Comments Against Net Nuetrality
Wasn't aware of it though. Why can't news be slow?
env123··on Ask HN: What happens after no-deal Brexit?
Is repatriation to mainland UK not a possibility?
env123··on We Are All Confident Idiots (2014)
Well, what about the rockstar junior devs who whipped fully functional applications who are later humbled with experiences and cringes at their previously ego-maniacally written code? I was one, and I wouldn't say I was aware of my mistakes, I definitely believed my code was superior (early 20s at the time)
env123··on Hong Kong protests: Man shot in chest by police firing live rounds
If you got nothing good to say...
env123··on NASA and ESA are going to slam a spacecraft into an asteroid to deflect it
It'd be hilarious due to some universal physics that cannot be understood, the asteroid slams into Earth due to the interference
env123··on Greta Thunberg: 'How dare you? You have stolen my dreams and my childhood'
Most of the times, the ones with the fundamental understanding are the most sensible. KISS principle - Keep it simple, stupid!
env123··on Idleness
Well it ain't a technical documentation, that's why it's unreadable to you
env123··on The Greatest Roman Emperor You’ve Never Heard Of
Nah, if you've read Marcus Aurelius, you'd definitely come across him
env123··on Lego to open 160 new stores as other toy retailers suffer
If LEGO can make sure that stepping on them wouldn't hurt, that's a product quality improvement to me
env123··on Camera sales are falling sharply
high performance =/= high quality. There's a threshold that something is decently good enough, no point in maximising everything. The same can be said about music (320 kbps vs flac), operating systems (8gb vs 32gb), wifi (4g vs 5g). Like how greedy do you need to be, to not be content?
env123··on CamScanner, a malicious Android app with more than 100M downloads in Google Play
Nice advert by Kaspersky in partnership with CamScanner
env123··on Moving to Ghana to 'escape US racism'
Jesus, your obsession with data... Just read history...
env123··on Why Are So Many Developers Hating on Object-Oriented Programming?
The supreme question really is if you have a really great OOP code, a really great functional code and a really great procedural code, all achieving the same thing, which would be the best? ie. which would be best in front-end? in the back end? in services where you do loads of calculations and analysis? in services where you just need to retrieve data?

It's probably best to be a full-stack developer, or find specialists who are really great at OOP and work on where it properly applies in the architecture system of a project, the same for functional or procedural

We don't need to box ourselves (or a company) in OOP only (or functional or procedural if that's your main paradigm)

env123··on Why All of Our Games Look Like Crap
So basically Jeff just need to take some art lessons
env123··on Judge claims mobile phone is not a computer
Well, he's a bad judge then. He should be able to adapt to the situation rather than follow the law literally
env123··on Using ‘switch’ to match arbitrary logic instead of string or number literals
I think the `switch` pattern is only applicable when you're checking for a large number of configurations that are of boolean type - ie. isReadOnly, isAdmin, isUser, isSuperUser, hasPaid, isActivated, isBanned, etc - it basically depends on your use case, unusual pattern to use, but it has its merits if applied in the right time by the right developer

case isReadOnly: // change something;

case isAdmin: doAdminStuff();

case hasPaid: updateFinance();

case isActivated: updatedUserInfo();

and so on...

env123··on The Software Arts
If you want to name a "software artist", I would say Steven Wittens best fit the description https://acko.net/
env123··on Show HN: Privacy-Focused Alternative to Google Docs and Microsoft Word
It's just a marketing ploy to entice the tech-challenged - you use fancy or obscure words to sweeten the icing on a cheap cake
env123··on Anyone who looks at this code instantly becomes insane
it's unmaintainable, "legacy" code at this point
env123··on Suburb in the sky: how Jakartans built an entire village on top of a mall
Because it's a village, not a city
env123··on The human body is already close to thermal limits in many regions
There will be, I just woke up this early morning thinking about climate change, and thought people will definitely want to migrate to cooler places but some nations will object to this due to conflicting interests

In another viewpoint on climate change, do remember that the Earth rotate around the Sun in elliptical manner, it's not perfect circle - there will be surely a time when a new Ice Age will happen - we're just at a period when Earth is getting closer to the Sun on it's rotational axis

env123··on Remove the Google logo from the Golang website
How about Angular? Isn't it a Google product as well? How come it doesn't have the Google logo on https://angular.io/? Maybe someone should raise a ticket to request for the Google logo to be included like in Go? For the sake of consistency...
env123··on The most effective way to tackle climate change? Plant a trillion trees
Philippines law would require students to plant 10 trees if they want to graduate https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/philippines-tr...
env123··on Why is collapsing a Hacker News comment so slow?
Refined hacker news, anyone? https://github.com/plibither8/refined-hacker-news
env123··on An open letter to Spotify employees
subtly promotes Innerviews
env123··on Southeast Asia vows to return mountains of rubbish from West
I don't think it's about money, it's about respect
