Colorful language, when applied tactfully, can communicate more completely than plain language. Most aren't very good at using it, though.

“Beyond recuperation” is sloppy, imprecise, awkward. The kind of phrase you suspect the author himself would have strained out had a thorough edit been bothered with.

I appreciate your persistence. I too want lyricism and the fullness of what language can offer—and persist in fear of being s philistine.

But if the author going for style can’t be bothered with purposeful style, I can’t be bothered with reading much further.
