enturn··on Writing GUI Apps Using the Red Programming Language
I tried installing the Windows version of Red but Avira blocked it as a trojan (TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen2). Any thoughts?

Edit: I found this https://github.com/red/red/issues/2399

enturn··on How Rust Gets Polymorphism Right [video]
Have a look at InfoQ website. I've watched lots of great tech presentations on there. Also Gary Bernhardt from Destroy All Software.
enturn··on Sketching Interfaces
Looking at the embedded youtube video the article might have been published after Sep 7, 2017. I can only guess, though, since they don't include dates on any articles they publish.
enturn··on To Settle Infinity Question, a New Law of Mathematics (2013)
If infinity is being boundless then to make anything infinity have the bounds as unknown. A practical use is in Haskell's lazy evaluation. Although maybe I'm missing the point completely.
enturn··on Visual Studio Code 1.17 released
Excellent! Thanks for your reply. I look forward to learning how it's implemented.
enturn··on Visual Studio Code 1.17 released
The new terminal looks great. Was there anything done to make it compatible with accessibility tools?
enturn··on Announcing CoffeeScript 2
It would be nice to have a date on the announcement page. I can only assume it was published on/around September 17, 2017 by looking at the changelog.
enturn··on CSS in JavaScript is like replacing a broken screwdriver with your favorite hammer
Like religion there's no one true way but I hope people agree that using analogies in technical discussions adds to confusion and is best avoided.
enturn··on Ask HN: Why continue to use Firefox?
It's possibly to do with a roadmap of extension APIs that are required to properly implement vertical tabs. WebExtensions Experiments allow developers to make changes to the APIs before they are in the official builds. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1280347
enturn··on Draw.io releases open source desktop versions
If you don't mind doing your UI in canvas (maybe with react-canvas) then these two look interesting, although Nidium doesn't seem to support desktop anymore. https://www.nidium.com/ http://impactjs.com/ejecta
enturn··on You don't need a Linkedin account
It could be because of their usage of dark UI design. I'm not sure if they still do it because I haven't been on there in a long time.

https://medium.com/@danrschlosser/linkedin-dark-patterns-3ae...

It was also mentioned in this presentation as having confusing UI. https://www.infoq.com/presentations/oo-ux

enturn··on I'm making 30 VR projects in 30 days to learn
The other projects did most of the heavy lifting. jsmpeg-vnc does the screen capture and sending the data over websocket to jsmpeg which renders it to canvas without buffering. I then took the canvas and used it as a texture in webvr-boilerplate. I needed to make sure the texture was a power of 2 and set texture.needsUpdate to true on each render update. Three.js made it easy to switch the cube out for a plane which I moved a bit closer to the camera. The command arguments I used for jsmpeg-vnc: -b 1000 -s 1024×512 -f 60 -p 9999 "desktop". jsmpeg-vnc doesn't support sound which doesn't bother me since I can use the computer speakers but I'd like to add mouse capture for when the headset is on. And here's a screenshot of it on my Moto G (2nd gen): http://imgur.com/a/uhRuN

Another challenge is desktop streaming. I achieved it using webvr-boilerplate (threejs) and jsmpeg-vnc. I still need to do lots of tweaking but it works quite well over LAN to mobile.
enturn··on Learning from Terminals to Design the Future of User Interfaces
I think Ubiquity is similar to 'Alt+Space' launchers. Alfred on Mac and Hain on Windows. Cerebro is a cross platform one.
enturn··on In Defense of C++
There is basic support for syntax highlighting out of the box in Visual Studio and more using a plugin. https://areweideyet.com/
enturn··on Ask HN: What is your favourite conspiracy theory?
'Google moving away from Java in favor of Dart and Go because they couldn't get legal control of the Java language.' I have no solid evidence but from legal battles with Oracle and Google's focus on wanting to control their entire stack it might have some merit.
enturn··on Tips for Self-Learning Programming
The best tip I've seen for learning programming is to code along with videos, while also trying to predict what the presenter will code. Doing that allows you to get going quickly without too much frustration. I like that I can experiment and ask myself questions but still have a working program at the end.

The article I read about this is at https://medium.com/learning-new-stuff/a-simple-technique-to-...

enturn··on Blueprint – A React UI toolkit for the web
My RT-AC68U router flagged this website as having malware. Seems more related to email than the website though.

Description: Sites whose addresses have been found in spam messages.

enturn··on Ask HN: At 91, My Grandfather's Only Regret Is Never Skateboarding. Best VR Rig?
While not VR, Wii Fit has a skateboarding game for the balance board. Someone might know of a way to combine it with a headset.
enturn··on Introvert Hangovers Can Be Really Rough
I think everyone needs time to unwind, the difference comes down to attitude, strategies for dealing with social situations and practice so it becomes muscle memory and therefore less tiring. I know for me I didn't get the best experiences socialising when growing up. Then I went out clubbing nearly every weekend and become much better. Now I'm married and I've fallen back into old habits I don't deal with new social situations so well any more.
enturn··on Why I'm Not a React Native Developer
It would be good to have when the article was written/updated on the page. I found Sep 22, 2016 in the changelog (link at the bottom) for first commit.
enturn··on Millions in U.S. Climb Out of Poverty, at Long Last
Indeed, it surprises me how employers are given so much credit for creating jobs when they're responding to demand. The more people who can (or are willing to) spend money on products and services, the more jobs are created. Businesses may start jobs but it's the consumers that make them viable.
enturn··on It’s cheaper to build multiple native applications than one responsive web app
I completely agree with the article. I joined a startup a few years ago and we went mostly native on Android and iOS with some simple screens as web views shared between them. Later on some clients wanted desktop and Windows Phone versions so we built a lesser featured version as a website to cater for any other devices (adding features as necessary). We started out as 3 software developers and a designer and are expanding. Native apps was a more cost effective way to deliver a good experience while the competition mostly developed web apps resulting in a lesser experience in my opinion.
enturn··on Mob Programming – The Good, the Bad and the Great
I think the idea from mob programming and pair programming in general is that a single programmer working on a piece of code is a liability. Everyone is prone to making mistakes and taking shortcuts especially when rushing for a deadline or when tired. More people means reduced risk especially if the skill set is diverse. Though if bugs in the code aren't much of an issue (ie fixing it quickly results in no repercussions) then one person should be good enough.
enturn··on Brainprints could replace passwords
"“Fingerprints are ‘non-cancellable.’ Brainprints, on the other hand, are potentially cancellable."

I still don't like the idea of using identity for authentication.

enturn··on Effective learning: Twenty rules of formulating knowledge (1999)
There are some really good tips here but I think it only glosses over the most important one which is purpose. I've been reading how important it is to have an intellectual need when learning maths even if that need is just to solve a current problem (instead of being given the concepts first without struggling).
