emptyfile··on A few things I’ve come to believe in my years in music tech
Even clicking through Youtube is so much better then Spotify. It really sucks for discovering good music.
emptyfile··on We only talk about the third attack on Pearl Harbor
Just keep in mind to take everything he says with a big grain of salt.

Quite a few times I've been mesmerized by his podcasts only to find out later its either mostly made up or a "classic" but totally discredited version of the story.

He really doesn't bother reading up on the latest and most accurate material for his topics.

It's the main reason why I stopped listening to him (the smaller one is that I will never get used to his grating accent).

The fat that this website is down and only links to their Discord is very ironic.

If putting the equivalent of a functioning high grade electrical socket in every parking space is a minor obstacle I don't want to see a major one.

emptyfile··on Workers quit jobs in droves to become their own bosses
Of course I want an easy life lol. What kind of nonsense is this post? And posters being offended by the "judging tone". LOL

Judge me all you want. HN jet setters and growth hackers don't even cross my mind while I'm living my "easy life".

That's just called a company my man...no, it's not easy to run, even if everyone involved is competent and you delegate things.

Yes, and? He is 100% correct. I lost the last shred of respect for Elon after his Thailand photo op.

Disgusting person.

We're still in the era where wars are won with infantry and tanks and planes and other materiel.

You don't hold ground or support your allies with nukes.

emptyfile··on WSL2 can now mount Linux ext4 disks directly
Well good for you people.

For me, when I buy a new laptop and half the drivers aren't working, that's an immediate deal breaker.

I literally won't allow myself to get into that situation again, not for love or money.

emptyfile··on WSL2 can now mount Linux ext4 disks directly
> Who here is writing software which runs on Linux, yet needs to be running Windows while they do it?

I do, because desktop Linux is a pile of burning garbage. Do we really have to reiterate this point every time?

Never been happier in my job then the day I realized I can run my full Linux dev environment on Windows.

If you folks like spending your free time configuring Linux or virtual boxes on Windows, feel free to do so. But please don't act like "you just don't understand". I don't wanna debug the OS in my free time, I would rather go hiking.

emptyfile··on Half a million South Korean workers walk off jobs in general strike
Well the article pretty clearly spells out the reasons, chief among them, you just need to read it

>Abolish “irregular work” (part-time, temporary or contract labor with little or no benefits) and extend labor protections to all workers

Or maybe a fucking tv show told them to do it...

emptyfile··on Colin Powell has died
A million dead civilians. All that blood is on America as a whole, but this guy's hands are as bloody as they can be.

Reading these comments it seems America has forgiven him... I assure you the rest of the world won't forget...

emptyfile··on The City of London Is Hiding the World’s Stolen Money
The City of London is a byword for the businesses that operate there.

emptyfile··on Singapore population sees biggest percentage drop since 1950
Actually, allowing gay sex between women was a 2007. revision of a British law.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Singapore

>Singapore law inherited from the British Empire prohibited sodomy regardless of sex. As such, heterosexual and homosexual anal or oral sex was illegal. In 2007, such sexual activity was legalised for heterosexuals and lesbians, but not for gay men.

Indeed the law was reviewed in 2019 and the government didn't see anything wrong with gay sex between men being illegal.

emptyfile··on Singapore population sees biggest percentage drop since 1950
That's honestly insane...

On the other hand, in Singapore, the act of sex between men is illegal(it's legal for women).

emptyfile··on Why I left academia
Sorry, I tried reading the original blog post but as non-english speaker I just have no idea what's it about. "Decolonization". Sorry, don't know what it is, or what cancel culture has with classical music.

I have no clue where from his "decolonization" quotes are coming from. Is that supposed to be the general attitude towards music in UK universities?

> Nineteenth-century musical works were the product of an imperial society. The classical musical canon must be decolonised.

This is what you'll find written in Introduction to Music textbook at most UK unis? No? What is it then?

I realize the author is writing his blog for his own audience. But this story of some hinted-at, vast struggle between him and cancel-culture in the field of musicology is totally unknown to me.

emptyfile··on Squats can boost brain activity [video]
I am actually familiar with that book since my hobby is running and it involves a fair amount of flexibility, soft tissue issues in general, etc.

So I do stretch and do mobility work especially hips, legs, shoulders, and take care of my posture and feet etc.

But it is a time commitment, and I do think that strength training is the first thing someone should focus on. Fixing issues from constant sitting is also a whole other topic.

emptyfile··on Squats can boost brain activity [video]
Same. I find yoga and most stretching to be a waste of time. You can do mobility work with strength exercises.

Nothing transformed my life more then serious strength training. Everything from sitting behind a desk to running uphill is a hundred times easier.

I'm sure you can achieve the same strength with yoga, but it seems to me its very inefficient. You can do strength training 2-3 times a week for an hour and it just works.

emptyfile··on Mosquito saliva alone has profound effects on the human immune system (2018)
I never thought my pain threshold was low until I tried that device lol.

I genuinely had to google reviews about it, and then still check if 50C temperature is safe for skin contact.

Torture comes quite close to it, still I hate mosquitoes even more.

Even now I only use the 3 second setting and sometimes I can't stand it.

emptyfile··on Mosquito saliva alone has profound effects on the human immune system (2018)
This stuff absolutely works, but I would call it the opposite of painless.
