emptiestplace··on Black Hole Destroys Star, Goes After Another, NASA Missions Find
I agree it's obnoxious, but if it helps with funding: "ok, cool"
emptiestplace··on Qantas apologizes after R-rated film plays on every screen during flight
I've been on many planes where it was done like this - A320s I believe. Probably WestJet.
emptiestplace··on iPhone Mirroring at work may expose employees’ personal information
MDM does not imply surveillance. I wouldn't use it if it did. It does mean I can enforce full disk encryption and remotely wipe a machine if it is stolen, though.
emptiestplace··on iPhone Mirroring at work may expose employees’ personal information
I would qualify that "tech companies that don't know what they're doing wrt IT". Apple does have some features to allow a bit of flexibility, but unless you do all of your work via VDI or similar, I'd consider non-MDM devices to be a huge red flag,
emptiestplace··on iPhone Mirroring at work may expose employees’ personal information
"Directly from Apple" does not preclude monitoring and control, but it would've notified you on first boot if it were MDM enrolled.
emptiestplace··on In the land of LLMs, can we do better mock data generation?
Wow!
emptiestplace··on In the land of LLMs, can we do better mock data generation?
Your comment is perfectly fine - obviously. You even used 'seems'. You even even saved me from wasting my time reading another bullshit article about LLMs from someone who can't be bothered to learn anything about them. Thanks!

Are you being serious?
emptiestplace··on Johnny LLM Can't Read Code
4o did a great job at this, both in terms of actually understanding it and explaining in a way that is very easy to follow. I suspect Claude would as well.

I pasted it here but the formatting got fucked.

Have you ever used an LLM?

emptiestplace··on A Comprehensive Analysis of Package Hallucinations by Code Generating LLMs
I always specify the libraries I want it to use. If I'm not sure, or it introduces something I'm not familiar with, I spend a few minutes comparing similar libraries so I can.
emptiestplace··on If AI seems smarter, it's thanks to smarter human trainers
I feel like I (probably?) agree with what you are saying, but this is a very confusing comment. You started out with an epistemological argument, and then jumped into an analogy that's so close to what is being discussed that on first read I thought you were just confused. I'm not sure anyone can continue the discussion in a meaningful way from what you've written because so many aspects of your comment are ambiguous or contradictory.
emptiestplace··on Hacker plants false memories in ChatGPT to steal user data in perpetuity
This argument is specious and boring: everything an LLM outputs is "hallucinated" - just like with us. I'm not about to throw you out or even think less of you for making this mistake, though; it's just a mistake.
emptiestplace··on Several people detained in Switzerland over death in a 'suicide capsule'
That's most of it, though. Also, who cares about being charitable towards folks who would deny others compassionate care?
emptiestplace··on A terrible way to jump into colocating your own stuff
What audience was this written for?
emptiestplace··on AI Companions Reduce Loneliness
> Again "killing oneself" is never the answer.

While well-intentioned, such blanket statements oversimplify a complex issue and are ultimately counterproductive. This topic deserves more nuanced discussion, especially on a platform known for thoughtful discourse.

emptiestplace··on AI Companions Reduce Loneliness
Who said anything about that, though?
emptiestplace··on AI tool cuts unexpected deaths in hospital by 26%, Canadian study finds
I hope you are joking.
emptiestplace··on Linux dev swatted and handcuffed live during a development video stream
It got me too - rotating to landscape helped.
emptiestplace··on We're not going to run out of new anatomy anytime soon
What if, as human consciousness is an emergent property of complexity, so too are humans and DNA itself? Could it be that, just as consciousness arises from the intricate networks within the brain, life and its fundamental components—like DNA—emerge from an even deeper layer of complexity in the universe, suggesting that our very existence is a product of systems far beyond our current understanding?
emptiestplace··on Lessons learnt building a real-time audio application in Python
You seem surprised, but any sort of live production requires this. Check out SonoBus, it achieves adequately low end-to-end latency even with network delays in the mix.
emptiestplace··on GPTs and Hallucination
Perhaps I'm confused, but your question seems contradictory and ambiguous. You first imply (I think?) that ChatGPT is limited to web-sourced information, but then acknowledge the training set includes more than just the public web. Can you please clarify what you are asking?
emptiestplace··on Serving AI from the Basement – 192GB of VRAM Setup
Does this post actually seem LLM generated to you?
emptiestplace··on Serving AI from the Basement – 192GB of VRAM Setup
It's one thing to be an asshole, but you're also hilariously clueless.
emptiestplace··on Show HN: Robata, macOS window selector: put it on the grill
Are you familiar with the change Apple made to app stack ordering where cmd+h no longer deprioritizes the window resulting in the wonderful cmd+h cmd+tab agghhhhhh cmd+h cmd+tab cmd+tab rage fest I haven't been able to stop inflicting upon myself every three seconds for years? I have yet to find a third-party app that fixes this. :)

emptiestplace··on Empathy for the user having sex with your software
I think a lack of understanding can sometimes masquerade as disagreement. I appreciate your efforts here.
emptiestplace··on AI Researcher Reveals Scary Future of Employment [video]
This is condescending, obnoxious, and disingenuous; "learn AI with me" for $19/month. He says "watch the first ten minutes", but good luck tolerating him for five.
