emef··on JQuery 1.5 Released
Very readable code, I'm sure I could learn a lot by perusing it :)
emef··on Why I Wrote a Programmer's Text Editor
I think you're describing the type of behavior that emacs uses when you press tab, except it indents the line according to the default tab style associated with the file type. It's great for programming; I never have to worry about indentation because it's handled automatically.
emef··on What if Visual Studio had Achievements?
I think it was more about how many tabs are open at once, which I would suppose means in memory since they're all going to be editable.
emef··on Precorder for iPhone. Never miss a great video moment again
It looks like a great app, but I don't think the example video added anything. Why couldn't that be done with the normal photo/video app?
emef··on Learning Lisp the hard way
Link to the actual package is unavailable on that page btw.
emef··on Introduction to Gnome 3
typo on http://www.gnome3.org/faq.html? It says "Commons Questions and Answers", where I think it means "Common ..." Didn't see a contact link so maybe a webdev will see it here.
emef··on Dear Google: please let me ban sites from results
I don't think you understood his suggestion. "Banning" a site would be local to your signed-in google account, not a global ban from results (which would indeed suffer the backfire you mentioned.)
emef··on RSS Is Dying, and You Should Be Very Worried
It seems like the incentive is missing. Browser developers have to prioritize what users use and what they know how to use. The author made the point that very few people even know what RSS is, and I think it's the content deliverers' responsibility to make users aware of that feature; there's only so much a browser can do to help with that.
emef··on RSS Is Dying, and You Should Be Very Worried
If there was really enough demand for RSS, it wouldn't die.
emef··on Grooveshark's new Javascript/HTML interface
Okay well I didn't mean to insinuate that they don't conform to standards in general. But you can see that if the developers prioritize their time based on browser usage, Opera might be brushed aside at first.

Idealy, developers could target one set of standards and their product would be functional across all browsers that implement them. In general, the bigger browsers all act relatively the same (not IE) when standards-compliant code is used, so if what works for them doesn't in Opera, then that's a problem.

emef··on Grooveshark's new Javascript/HTML interface
You can't blame projects for not immediately supporting your specific browser. Most teams develop for the standards. If your browser doesn't conform to the standards that work for major browsers, then it's just harder on the developers.
emef··on Why Emacs is great - SLIME repl for developing in-browser javascript
Emacs really feels like an IDE. But not just some normal IDE, one that I can hand customize the shit out of to do what I want it to _easily_ (which is important).

If vim had a SLIME like frontend I may not have switched in the first place, but now that I know emacs I don't think I would go back to full-time vim.

Vim is still great for quick change editing due to it's awesome load time and superior default keybindings.

emef··on Why Emacs is great - SLIME repl for developing in-browser javascript
This is the kind of reason I switched from vi/vim for code editing. There is so much available power and flexibility in emacs, and it really makes things fun.
emef··on Good blog discussing algorithms and data structures
It was mostly a joke, I've just gotten tired of the "I has [blank]" and 1337-speak.
emef··on Good blog discussing algorithms and data structures
agh, I refuse to visit a site called ihas1337code.
emef··on Are your beliefs consistent? Take the test...
I had the same problem with it, I don't know why it bothered me so much, but it was incredibly frustrating. I shouldn't let something silly like that throw me off, bud damn! Don't throw your red stop sign at me when it is _you_ that is wrong quiz!
emef··on NLP in Python vs other Programming Languages
The entire time I was reading, I hoped that a Haskell solution would be there (knowing it would be much simpler), I got my wish :) +1 to haskell
emef··on How writing creates value
He writes about algorithmically filtering articles on sites like reddit and hacker news.

To me, part of the appeal to these sites are that links and content are driven by the users, and not by what someone else wants me to read.

I'm sure this could highlight interesting stories, but I think it starts to break apart the community these social networking sites provide.

emef··on Views Show How North Korea Policy Spread Misery
The situation is surreal. One of the (many) moving points he made was that grown adults firmly believe that Americans have demon horns and pitch fork spiked tails.

These people have been on complete lockdown for fifty years and shut out from the world, both mentally and physically.

This leadership needs to be destroyed, they are committing too many atrocities.

emef··on Views Show How North Korea Policy Spread Misery
Displaced peoples is a hard topic. It's easy to say to just put them somewhere, but in reality it would be more complicated than that.

I do agree though that these people need support.

emef··on Views Show How North Korea Policy Spread Misery
Stories like these make me feel spoiled. I wish I knew how to help.
emef··on Stanford Students Build Their Own Y Combinator
Except Y Combinator is not an incubator. From the FAQs:

"Is Y Combinator an incubator?

No. The defining quality of incubators seems to be that companies work out of the investor's space. We think that's a bad idea; it makes founders feel like employees. "

emef··on The Anatomy of Addictive Gameplay
As a formally very addicted gamer, I have no moral objection to making a game addictive. Sure, I wasted a lot of time, but I had a lot of fun with it.

Unless a game were made so addictive that it was mentally or physically harmful, then it flies with me.

emef··on AT&T security breach exposes emails of 100,000+ ipad owners
This is why AT&T needs to start carrying more Android phones... :)
emef··on My 2 Bucks on Pricing
100% agree.

The article was actually inspiring, it's nice to see such a supporting user base.
