elpakal··on Hallucination Risk Calculator
That's telling me the label was over applied, not that the label itself was not important. I'd love something that just tells me the likelihood that a text post was AI generated to start (like on LinkedIn, for eg).
elpakal··on Hallucination Risk Calculator
Then make it configurable per user, so people that dont want it can turn it off. Regarding the boundary idk but I still would rather know the likelihood that the content was AI generated (especially if it's high) than not.
elpakal··on Hallucination Risk Calculator
I just want a badge that says "ai-generated" for content thats likely ai slop on LinkedIn, Reddit, X etc.
elpakal··on Experimenting with Local LLMs on macOS
Yes it does.

That’s just an issue with stale and incorrect information. Here are the docs https://opensource.apple.com/projects/mlx/

elpakal··on ML needs a new programming language – Interview with Chris Lattner
To be fair to Chris, I’ve only seen the message about compiler not being able to type check the expression in swiftui closure hell. I think he left (maybe partly) because of the SwiftUI influence on Swift.

lol
elpakal··on We're Joining OpenAI
could just be the git/apply changes functionality they’re interested in. obviously speculation
elpakal··on We're Joining OpenAI
Something mentioned in WWDC stuck out to me (think it was Craig) about current state of LLMs not living up to their high standard of quality. Because they absolutely could (and kind of are, with the foundation models stuff) build their own. Letting Claude or OpenAI handle the Xcode changes via their integration in the next Xcode makes more sense in that context.
elpakal··on We're Joining OpenAI
Are they basically buying users here? I agree with the other comments about Claude being better, and now that the new Xcode will ship with a Claude integration I wonder about this.
elpakal··on Launch HN: Datafruit (YC S25) – AI for DevOps
Congrats on the launch. As a former CI build engineer, I’m very curious about this and look forward to watching your progress. One question

> we’ve talked to a couple of startups where the Claude Code + AWS CLI combo has taken their infra down

Do you care to share what language model(s) you use?

elpakal··on Claude Sonnet will ship in Xcode
it’s funny how much i’ve seen mods here nitpick titles, yet this one gets to slide? Not only does the title summarize one small part of this page, but it’s also a bit misleading. Models will not ship IN Xcode, Xcode can now send your code to the API.
elpakal··on How we exploited CodeRabbit: From simple PR to RCE and write access on 1M repos
So if their GH API token with access to million plus repos was this easy to compromise, isn't it plausible that their token could have been used to clone clone said repos? Is it possible to audit the clone history of a token?
elpakal··on How we exploited CodeRabbit: From simple PR to RCE and write access on 1M repos
> Sandboxing: All Cloud Run instances are sandboxed with two layers of sandboxing and can be configured to have minimal IAM permissions via dedicated service identity. In addition, CodeRabbit is leveraging Cloud Run's second generation execution environment, a microVM providing full Linux cgroup functionality. Within each Cloud Run instance, CodeRabbit uses Jailkit to create isolated processes and cgroups to further restrict the privileges of the jailed process.

In case you don't want to read through the PR

elpakal··on How we exploited CodeRabbit: From simple PR to RCE and write access on 1M repos
presuming they take the output of running these linters and pass it for interpretation to Claude or OpenAI
elpakal··on How we exploited CodeRabbit: From simple PR to RCE and write access on 1M repos
> After responsibly disclosing this critical vulnerability to the CodeRabbit team, we learned from them that they had an isolation mechanism in place, but Rubocop somehow was not running inside it.

Curious what this (isolation mechanism) means if anyone knows.

elpakal··on Tim Cook rallying Apple employees around AI efforts
Wait, usage for the on-device LLM is free, so why would you charge for it? I think that's just a mental model shift.
elpakal··on GPT-5
> They don’t seem to have a mental model of the whole concept and how things (actors, isolation, Tasks) need to play together.

to be fair, does anyone ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

elpakal··on Gemini CLI GitHub Actions
TIL, thanks
elpakal··on Gemini CLI GitHub Actions
I'm just here for the PR review feature
elpakal··on Gemini CLI GitHub Actions
100. That's essentially the function of a GH Action, which is why I'm also confused by the pomp and circumstance of the announcement.

Now if they could get Gemini (the LLM) to run on a GH Actions runner I'd be more excited.

elpakal··on Tim Cook rallying Apple employees around AI efforts
They announced this at wwdc this year in “Foundation Models”. Developers have access to an on-device llm (not sure how good it is yet).
elpakal··on I launched 17 side projects. Result? I'm rich in expired domains
IDK, you can stay in builder mode on the same idea. I’m getting old now and I wonder if there’s something in this whole persistence/keeping at it thing VCs love to talk. Not because you eventually figure _it_ out, but because sticking with an idea makes people see you believe in it and then they eventually think they should check think about it.
elpakal··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (July 2025)
iOS apps size analysis app you can run on your Mac https://dotipa.app
elpakal··on The great AI delusion is falling apart
Some code challenge platforms allow for seeing how often someone pasted things in. That's been interesting.

elpakal··on Apple's Liquid Glass: When Aesthetics Beat Function
I've been using the iOS26 beta and I HAAATE the transparent/blurry navigation bar.

I'm curious what the impact is to a11y users though—it's been a while since I had to think about it but I remember having pretty strict requirements on background/foreground font and color differences for users with suboptimal vision.
