elashri··on YouTube to automatically label AI-generated videos
The problem is that it doesn't even respect this choice. My native language is not English and most of the videos in this languages will be auto transcript to English. Even the last time I changed both the language and country and YouTube still managed to auto transcript to English.

The solution is a simple toggle to turn it off, not pushing it to our throat.

elashri··on Bitwarden scrubs 'Always free' and 'Inclusion' values from its site
Now I started to worry about their clients openness to work with valultwarden. They also said in the past they will not change the behavior to not accept third party servers. But who knows now.
elashri··on MIT: 20% drop in incoming graduate students
It is mainly because of federal funding cuts that departments accept fewer students as written in the actual text. But I might add that the changes of immigration and the changes in foreign policy might played a rule. There are no mention of AI at all.
elashri··on I was asked to install malware during a fake interview
> become a technical advisor for their web3 project

That by itself should have been the first red flag. I also heard a lot of these stories recently. I think this might be one of the good use cases of GitHub Codespaces.

elashri··on Tell NYT, Atlantic, USA Today to keep Wayback Machine
> Can we just go back to ads and normalize blocking people who ad-block?

Nope, two problems

1- Ads is privacy issue not only convenience issue. Targeted ads should not normalized.

2- Companies figures out that even paying doesn't means you don't get ads. You probably are bigger target with more disposable income than average in such case.

elashri··on Anthropic,OpenAI meet religious leaders to discuss faith and AI
So it seems that the AI companies now promise us with "The Gospel of Technological Prosperity".

Skill-slop.
elashri··on HantaWatch Real time hantavirus outbreak tracker
I hope that you are right and it keep being such. And that it would not be another December 2019.
elashri··on Taphouse – A Native macOS GUI for Homebrew
Maybe misspelled Applite[1] which is famous open source macOS GUI app for homebrew as well.

elashri··on Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent
Ni problem. I get you point but just to clarify I didn't feel that. I did not actually realize this was the top comment.

My point was that as this is another thing that chrome put down our throat without ability to stop it which actually what the original link refers to, then the solution as a reminder is to use Firefox.

I was just complaining because I suspected that many people might be abusing because they just don't like Firefox (some replies including the account you just banned indicated that to me) but I am probably wrong.

I am not arguing, just explaining my thoughts. And thanks for taking the time to explain and clarify.

elashri··on Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent
Thanks for explaining that, you are probably right.
elashri··on Google Chrome silently installs a 4 GB AI model on your device without consent
Hi Tom, since you are here. It seems that my comment, the GOP is flagged and I think this is a case of flag abuse. Can you help with that?

elashri··on Newton's law of gravity passes its biggest test
MOND is dead is a true statement if we say MOND is dead as a general theory of gravity. It does not mean is does not have its success with explaining galactic rotation curves but failing at mostly everything else.
elashri··on A statement from members of the Toki Pona community
I don't know but I think that having this on the front page of HN is not something helpful according to the post itself. Do you think it should be removed ?
elashri··on GoDaddy gave a domain to a stranger without any documentation
Have we ever got any response like than from GoDaddy ever in any of these issues over years?
elashri··on Apple fixes bug that cops used to extract deleted chat messages from iPhones
I wish it can be disabled for particular apps and not an all or nothing situation.
elashri··on GitHub's fake star economy
I usually use stars as a bookmark list to visit later (which I rarely do). I probably would need to stop doing that and use my self-hosted "Karkeep" instance for github projects as well.
elashri··on The Great Pyramid of Giza and the Speed of Light
> I guess it's literally everyone in the galaxy except for Americans using the metric system.

So the reason the aliens always start their invasion or encounter with humans from America in Hollywood movies is because they are angry/curious to see the only people in the galaxy not using the metric system?

elashri··on The Great Pyramid of Giza and the Speed of Light
The conspiracy theorist inside me would say that the French might not be the first to define the metric this way /s.

On a side note. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for filestash, it is really a high quality software piece that solved a lot of pain points for me.
elashri··on SideX – A Tauri-based port of Visual Studio Code
Isn't this basically what was happening with most of our personal projects coming from ideas that we found very interesting and then forget that we ever thought about it?
elashri··on Delve allegedly forked an open-source tool and sold it as its own
But MIT also requires Attribution, it is actually the only thing asked in MIT licence.
elashri··on Is BGP safe yet?
Any reasons on why an ISP would not implement it other than effort/cost? Just for someone like me whose networks knowledge is very naive.
elashri··on Cursor Composer 2 is just Kimi K2.5 with RL
I doubt that there is any open source license that don't require attribution but we are talking about a specific case and the license require it [1]

elashri··on Cursor Composer 2 is just Kimi K2.5 with RL
Open source licence requires attribution which obviously it is not done in this case.
elashri··on The “small web” is bigger than you might think
Bro are you kidding? The whole point of small web is to avoid cooperations, AI and governments.
elashri··on Claude Code wiped our production database with a Terraform command
Which is why I actually said replace intern or robot by "human" in general in my comment.
elashri··on Claude Code wiped our production database with a Terraform command
> If you give a robot the ability to delete production it’s going to delete production

If you give an intern the ability to delete production, it's going to delete production. But to be honest you can as well replace "intern" or "robot" by human in general. Deletion in production should have safety layers that anyone cannot accidentally do it, specially without the ability of rolling back.

elashri··on Proton Mail Helped FBI Unmask Anonymous 'Stop Cop City' Protester
> Didn't Proton already say that they were physically relocating their servers outside of Switzerland because the Swiss government couldn't be trusted?

They said they want to relocate to Germany which I would say in a polite way, is much worse in this regard.
