eksx··on US government struggles to rehire nuclear safety staff it laid off days ago
The last few weeks of government action has shown me one thing. When the democrats take over next there will be no reason they can’t make the health care insurance sector government controlled. I think the vast majority of people would support them.

eksx··on Story points are pointless, measure queues
A task that takes months is a project. I view tasks as something I could get done in one day with full focus. Then at the 2 day mark I reevaluate. The additional day can always act as a buffer.
eksx··on Story points are pointless, measure queues
“Which is not a queue” why not a queue?
eksx··on More than 50,000 Americans died by suicide in 2023–more than any year on record
I feel sad reading this today. This Friday will mark 10 years since my childhood best friend died by suicide. This happened when I was in my early 20's and at the time didn't quite understand how to process. I was so angry over the situation I couldn't think about it with a clear mind. Over the last 10 years I came to learn that the people around me are more important than any anger or grudge I could hold against them. All the moments I've been hurt, angry, or disappointed will never outweigh how much I care about them.
eksx··on California strikes deal with engine makers on zero-emissions trucking by 2036
I think the Yin and Yang in this case is very much needed. We need states to push forward while others are slower to adopt. This will allow us to test new things while also providing a fallback in case the plan doesn't work.
eksx··on California strikes deal with engine makers on zero-emissions trucking by 2036
My thinking is companies and people will take the path of least resistance. In this case it is sticking to gas powered engines. Maybe we need states to start implementing these laws to force companies to start investing more in R&D in order for this to happen quicker? Maybe moving from horses to vehicles was such a huge improvement that people were willing to do it. Moving from a gas powered vehicle to electric or any other zero emission system might not be seen as a big improvement and therefore the willingness is much less.
eksx··on Illinois prohibits weapons, facial recognition on police drones
I have to say that definitely makes me happy!
eksx··on GM plans to phase out Apple CarPlay in EVs, with Google's help
Ditto. I also am shopping for a new car just for the sole purpose of having wireless CarPlay. I put over 100k miles on my car in 3 years so I would consider myself in the well above average tier for car usage. Apple CarPlay has improved the driving experience considerably.
eksx··on Joint statement by the Department of the Treasury, Federal Reserve, and FDIC
Genuine question but if a company has 10 million where or how do they deposit it for it to be insured?
eksx··on 30% of YC companies exposed through SVB can’t make payroll in the next 30 days
FDIC mentioned that by Monday there will be access to accounts with 250k that is fdic protected. Does this statement take this into account?
eksx··on Netflix’s ad tier will cost $6.99 a month and launch in November
Honestly netflix is the main platform I have kept around since 2000's. All other platform I signup to catch up on shows and then cancel after a month. I think netflix has the best all around library for my entire family to enjoy.
eksx··on Report: 90% of nurses considering leaving the profession in the next year
One example is drug waste. Insulin for example is charged per vial to the patient but usually only a minimal fraction is actually used and the remainder is disposed of.
eksx··on Report: 90% of nurses considering leaving the profession in the next year
Sorry, meant ~150k!
eksx··on Report: 90% of nurses considering leaving the profession in the next year
I spent a bit of time making basic webpages throughout middle/high school using front page. I didn't start taking programming seriously until about early 2013. It took me until about 2019 to hit 100k salary. My girlfriend has 4 years of schooling and 6 years of experience as a nurse. So i guess she has even more total experience than I do.
eksx··on Report: 90% of nurses considering leaving the profession in the next year
Correct! Thanks for clarifying!
eksx··on Report: 90% of nurses considering leaving the profession in the next year
I work in tech with no college degree and about 9 years of programming experience. I make mid 100,000's per year. My S/O has 6 years of Emergency Department experience and a bachelors degree and she made about 65k at our local hospital. I think pay is an enormous factor in this. Her local hospital has nurses with less than 1 year of experience being preceptors to new grads.
