eisbaw··on Uv is the best thing to happen to the Python ecosystem in a decade
> Maybe one day it will seem insane that every language ecosystem has its own build tool because there's some all-in-one tool that is just as easy to use as `(car)go build`!

Yep: Nix

nix-shell is the OG
eisbaw··on Who needs Graphviz when you can build it yourself?
Wow, thank you very much. I like the graphviz dot language. I may translate this to Rust.
eisbaw··on Who needs Git when you have 1M context windows?
Lol. The context window is actually just a buffer in your client. The guy could probably simply scroll up...
eisbaw··on We put a coding agent in a while loop

eisbaw··on Modern CI is too complex and misdirected (2021)
Local-first, CI-second.

CI being a framework, is easy to be locked into -- preventing local-first dev.

I find justfiles can help unify commands, making it easier to prevent accruement of logic in CI.

eisbaw··on Claude Code Unleashed
Noise? Iterating in PRs - if humans are involved.

That said, Terragon here (which is akin to Codex and Jules) are often "too autonomous" for my taste. Human in the loop is made more difficult -- commenting may not be enough: I can't edit the code from those because the workspace is so ephemeral and/or remote.

https://ghuntley.com/stdlib/ applies to claude as well.

AI won't magically know your codebase unless it is pretty vanilla - but then you teach it. If it makes a mistake, teach it by adding a rule.

You have to confine the output space or else you quickly get whatever.

Claudia helps regarding managment and session mental switching.

I added a web server ontop, so I can use Claudia from my phone now: https://github.com/getAsterisk/claudia/pull/216

eisbaw··on We've got to stop sending files to each other
git is the solution, not the problem.
eisbaw··on Wttr: Console-oriented weather forecast service
I like the service but I've displayed this via curl on my home dashboard for more than 2 years - and the uptime is not great.
eisbaw··on Rule72 – A Git Commit Formatter
Reflows text better than commitmsgfmt IMHO, as it preserves lists and sub-lists better.
eisbaw··on Apptainer: Application Containers for Linux
Argh, yet another way to distribute userland images. AppImages does it right by including the run-time with the image itself - no prior installation needed.

More nix less containers, btw.

E.g. docker run -ti nixery.dev/shell/cowsay bash for on-the-fly containers based on Nix.

eisbaw··on Gemini CLI
Can't we standardize on AGENTS.md instead of all these specific CLAUDE.md and now GEMINI.md.

I just symlink now to AGENTS.md

eisbaw··on How I use my terminal
I made my own fuzzy ripgrep, rgf. Works like rg but then pipes into fzf. When selected, your editor pops up on that line. Pretty handy.

        rgf is a function
        rgf ()
        {
            ( unset rg;
            function rg_normalize ()
            {
                sed -E 's#-(\x1b\[[0-9;]*m)*([0-9]+)(\x1b\[[0-9;]*m)*-#\1:\2:\3#g'
            };
            rg --color=always "${@:-${RG_LAST_ARGS[@]}}" --with-filename --line-number | rg_normalize | fzf --ansi --multi > /dev/shm/.tmp.fzf );
            cmd_fuzzy_editor $(cat /dev/shm/.tmp.fzf | awk -F':' '{file=$1; line=$2;} {print file, line}') > /dev/shm/.my_editor.source;
            source /dev/shm/.my_editor.source
        }

         type cmd_fuzzy_editor
        cmd_fuzzy_editor is a function

eisbaw··on LLM Chat via SSH
Why not telnet?
eisbaw··on DiffX – Next-Generation Extensible Diff Format
Why are diffs still so text-based? That should be a last resort. Typically when you edit a text file, your action has meaning beyond the primitive edit. You probably changed a variable name, moved a function above another. Replaced a whole chunk of stuff with other stuff, etc.

The problem with diffs is that they are not easily portable - because their intent is so (accidentally) low-level. Imbue diffX with semantics, and they can become more readable - by humans and AI alike.

eisbaw··on TrunkVer
Versioning could also be determined from: 1. User-centric: Has --help changed? If not, it is minor bump. 2. Developer-centric: Will conflicts occur if a new commit is cherry-picked onto the prior release?

I like linear Git histories, but image if we could "widen" a linear history maximally - so all non-conflicting commits "branch out" and only merge when needed.

eisbaw··on Rrweb – record and replay debugger for the web
Does it run locally? I inherently do not trust anything serverd on the web to be stable.
eisbaw··on Booting Linux off of Google Drive
I wouldn't technically call this "boot" since the kernel has already booted... If get google-drive "mounting" support into grub, then I'll concede. This just places the rootfs on some strange place.

btw, I have a project in my drawer, to place rootfs of my NixOS on IPFS.

eisbaw··on ASHA for Linux
I wouldn't call it problematic, but LE Audio does require new Bluetooth stack, both hardware and software.

ASHA works with older Bluetooth Low Energy spec versions.

But ASHA is bad: A too-simple protocol, leading implementations having to figure out timing themselves. I implemented ASHA in our Hearing Aids, btw.
