Hi,

I'm Edwin Yip. I mainly develop in Delphi. My newest and key project is (https://docxmanager.com). Basically it helps authors who uses Microsoft Word organize and plan their writings, and optionally generate modern-looking websites out of their documents.

Or the new DocxManager (https://docxmanager.com)

Hey! What do you think of my WritingOutliner (http://writingoutliner.com) then? Basically it turns Microsoft Word into a powerful outliner.
edwinyzh··on Ask HN: What are your favorite developer-efficiency tips?
Yes! And please don't choose one that's too much powerful (usually means complexity) and bloated. On Windows over the decades I've tried a lot of them, and ATM, clipdiary is the best, because it does what I need (just keep a list of clip history and let me select and paste any of them handily) and not slow.
edwinyzh··on How coffee became a modern necessity
An informative article! And this is the key issue: "One needs to gradually and continually increase the amount of caffeine consumed in order to experience the stimulant effect.".
edwinyzh··on Ask HN: I'm a software engineer going blind, how should I prepare?
You reminds me about learning a foreign language you need to think in the foreign language without the translating part.
edwinyzh··on Ask HN: Programs that saved you 100 hours?
That's why I only launch it when needed. The other time, I use listary (but couldn't replace Search Everything in all cases such as I need to view the dates and sizes of the list of matched files).
edwinyzh··on Ask HN: What are you learning?
Great! I wish you will be success with your project.
edwinyzh··on Ask HN: What are you learning?
Hey! Mine (https://docxmanager.com) is similar but for Microsoft Word on Windows :)
edwinyzh··on Face masks from China intended for France 'hijacked' by US at the last minute
Things like this is really an eye-opener to me, frankly.
edwinyzh··on Omni Group Layoffs
Is is Omni Focus 1, right? (https://www.macworld.com/article/1132832/omnifocus1.html)

I don't use it, But I'm curious as to what are the major changes of v2 which disappoint you? I like the v1 interface as shown in the above mentioned article.

edwinyzh··on Show HN: Search code in GitHub repos using regular expressions
Great! Do you have a live demo? like the one being Showed HN?

Sorry, maybe I have confused SourceGraph with https://searchcode.com, but last time I tried, it supports only most widely used languages such as Java, Python and so on, but not the language I use (Delphi/Object Pascal). I'm sorry if I'm wrong.

@danfox, Without revealing your tech/business secretes, I wonder if you can share some tips about building such a search app :)
edwinyzh··on Show HN: Search code in GitHub repos using regular expressions
I've been wondering the same thing for many years. And I don't know why Google killed Code Search
edwinyzh··on Show HN: Search code in GitHub repos using regular expressions
last time I tried sourcegraph doesn't cover the language I use, so it's useless to me.
edwinyzh··on Show HN: Search code in GitHub repos using regular expressions
Sorry, but his code search covers far more languages than yours the last time I tried yours :)
edwinyzh··on Show HN: Search code in GitHub repos using regular expressions
Awesome! To me it looks like the come back of "Google Code Search" which I've been missing for many years!

Can you share your search string? Thanks.
edwinyzh··on Delphi's 25th Birthday
Congrats! My new software (https://DocxManager.com - site builder and document manager) is built with Delphi :)
edwinyzh··on 18-year-old personal website, built with Frontpage and still updated
What you said made me glad that I've just developed DocxManager (https://docxmanager.com) - its concept is like WordPress (document-focused editor, themes and templates) but it generates standard html/css/js, and use Word as the document editor.
edwinyzh··on Autocomplete as an Interface (2015)
Auto-complete is at least very helpful in two regards: - "Don't make me think". I don't want to wast my brain bandwidth on remembering the details of tens of thousands of the methods/properties/functions, but instead on the logics/architecture/communication of the app I'm building. - Method/property discover-ability, especially for new classes/interfaces/libraries.
edwinyzh··on I love coding in C
I LOVE coding in Delphi, really. And I start my new project (document-focused website generator @ https://docxmanager.com) in Delphi, while some people think it's dead :)

And I like C (although I don't code in it), because Delphi/Lazarus can interface with C very easily, you know, there is a lot of C libraries around the world :)

edwinyzh··on Tars: Tencent's microservice RPC framework, open-sourced to Linux Foundation
I'm sorry, but it's your task to overcome the language barrier if you are interested in the project; if you don't, no one can force you to. But neither you can force other people to do the translation for you, nor force Linux Foundation not to accept an excellent project source project just due to the spoken language of the developer.

Everything changes, the world changes. Nowadays you write Korean but your ancestors had been using Chinese as your country's official languages for many hundred years; Now we all learn English to communicate internationally but a few hundred years ago they use France.

No one knows how the world will change but there is one thing we can be sure of - no one can force the world to change at his own will - the only thing s/he can do is to adopt it - just as what we human beings have been doing for millions of years.

Sorry, but what you said is quite different from my conclusion from comparing a country which starts wars all around the world, with a country which build infrastructures all around the world.
